okay look back at the good shadow voice of David Humphrey or something like that I cant ever remember his name, And remember the line, So your the one behind all this from heroes, and the one from Sa2 where he says I'll show you the real power of Chaos Control and imagine that voice over EVERYTHING shadow says in the newer games. Well, now we know where and when the games take place. The planet is Earth (Eggman specifically says so in Sonic Adventure 2). The country is the USA (the CIA is mentioned here, in Sonic Adventure 2 the Federal Reserve Bank is mentioned, and the President's home is definitely the White House). The time is the future (the USA has been renamed the United Federation and has a new flag, and Washington D.C. is now called Central City; plus technology is more advanced). So this is a sci-fi story.

Actually, if you look at the map in the GUN-headquartersm you can see that this is an alternate Earth altogether. It's doubtable that this is the USA per se - to me, anyhow. CIA here stands for something completely different as in real life.

And after all, this would have to be fairly far in the future, considering how long it would take for the animals of today to evolve/mutate into the sentient animals of Sonic's time.

Also take into account the ancient echidna-civilization, which according to Sonic Adventure, existed some thousands of years ago. Surely, they could have easily outpowered some savages with spears.

Besides, although in the recent decades the USA's foreign policy has included intervening in the problems of other countries (even when we aren't asked to do so), that doesn't mean that the USA of that future time had the same policy. And, if you've played Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, it appears that the two tribes of echidnas (The Knuckles Clan and the Nocturnus Clan) mainly fought amongst themselves and would have posed no threat to the USA.

I also don't count Sonic Chronicles as being "canon" to the rest of the series for referencing Sonic Battle, which in turn, I also count as uncanon. It just contradicts too many established facts.

As for Sonic Battle, the only contradiction I know of is Professor Gerald's journals, and someday I know I'll find a solution to that plothole that doesn't involve dismissing the whole game as noncanon. There just has to be one.

Well, it took me an hour's worth of thinking, but I found the solution to the plothole. When Gerald records Maria's death in Entry #7, he claims that Maria died in "an accident in the research facility", which is what GUN wanted everyone to think. He states in Entry #8 that he gave Shadow a "heart", and we know that he originally intended Shadow to be used for good since he left standing orders for him to stop the Black Arms if they came back and save the world. Also note that he states in Sonic Adventure 2 that he "reprogrammed" Shadow to avenge Maria, implying that this was NOT Shadow's original function.

So perhaps it was not the news of Maria's death itself that pushed Gerald over the edge, but the discovery that Maria had in fact been murdered in cold blood, a discovery he made AFTER he wrote Entry #8.

And there you have it: the plothole has been solved and the game is canon.

SEGA of America made up the "Mobius" concept, and it was used in all the American and European materials. However, from Sonic Adventure onward, the American and European versions of the games have used the same plots as the Japanese ones, meaning that as far as those games are concerned, Sonic and friends are from Earth.
