  • porque para hacer tameshigiri la gente se me disfraza? el habito no hace al monje que sois unos flipaos

  • whe i first read the title i didnt know that was the name of the sword i thought you were trying to call yourself a kensei for a second i thought yea his technuiqe is good but not THAT good

  • Excuse me to bother you sir, where did you get that sword?

  • @ManabeRokuro kult of athena

  • That thing's a beast. With the massive tsuba, it reminds me of the one used by Kikuchiyo (played by Mifune Toshiro) from Seven Samurai.

  • dude

  • I plan to get this sword from Marc at wiwingtiswordsupply as well :]

  • lol just imagine the cavalry charging towards you and you have your odachi

personally i'd rather have a naginata in that case

  • I thought if the blade was the same length, but the tsuka was longer, that it was called a nagamaki?

  • That sword is amazing how much did you give for it?

  • That's one serious blade you have there.

  • I have a question....what is the difference in the nodachi and Odachi?

    Can some1 plz answer?

    Thanks in advance :)

  • not much...i heard that 1 of them had a longer hilt...

  • Both names are synonymous these days. The original name is Nodachi which means field sword. Odachi means Great /Long Sword. These two names are both excepted to describe the weapon today.

  • Nothing. They are relatively thesame. Some say a Nodachi has a longer handle, but that is not entirely true. An Odachi is simpky incorrectly referred as a Nodachi, which some say is the original name.

  • odachi is more like a spear than a sword. has a very long handle and a regular length blade. a No-Dachi is like a big katana. the handle is proportional to the blade. for example if you added 5 inches to the tsuka of a katana and added 5 inches to the blade it would be in proportion as a nodachi. but if you added 15 inches o the tsuka and kept the blade the same it would be an odachi :)

  • you have it backwards

  • @micahdc nope, do research. ive thouroughy researched it and even done reports in college containing the correct info. its a common mix up. odachi and nodach ican not be used interchangeably they are different. O katana is a larger version of a katana. nodachi is a longer blade and handle in proportion but bigger than o katana. and odachi has about a 25-30 inch tsuka with a blade about 40 inches long. And the one that is basicly just a full size spear with a katana blade is a naginata

  • nice work

  • From the pictures I've seen, the tsuka on that beast looks like it's the right width for that blade...which I think is great. How does it feel in the hand when cutting?

    Nice cuts, by the way.

  • imho it's very well balanced for such a large sword. That said it's still heavy and takes some getting used to to keep from landing the tip in the ground when cutting downward LOL I did that on one of my first attempts at cutting with it on the cardboard tube it was shipped in.

  • Haha. I can imagine it's a beast to swing! Thanks for the info. ^_^

  • Is your Jidai Odachi still in good condition, and good cutting condition? Also, is it full tang? Is it folded steel or just clay tempered? $600 is a decent amount but, there is a chance it's not too great of a sword so please, give me an honest openion.

  • Yes, the sword is rock solid and cuts like a dream, the blade is clay tempered not folded. The only thing I don't like is the soft paint on the saya. It chips very easily.

  • Is is dismantleable? Even though it is realistic, I don't like the size of the Tsuba and would like to replac it with a more decorative, smaller one.

  • I haven't tried but it's held together by two mekugi so it should be able to come apart.

  • @Ch4oTiK replacing the handle reduces control of the blade though.. :\

  • @Velothi Not the Handle, the Tsuba, or handguard. I simply don't like having ones that are too big around, nor do I like ones that are plain, flat peices of metal. I prefer the smaller, slightly more decorative ones. =) New Tsubas don't reduce the control much, the difference in weight isn't substantial enough to really be detremental towards the overall form.

  • @Ch4oTiK I think it's proportional to the type of nihonto this is and it probably gives an optimal defense for both self injury and opposing attacks alike

  • @malevolenceXXXensues Good point, sizeable ones could be a good defense against sliding blades.

  • 1055 Carbon steel? clay tempered is okay and nice but if it were at least 1095 CS folded and clay tempered with an uneven hamon I would buy it... Like I said It seems nice but too blunt for my taste and not some things I need.... ^_^ always love seeing people who love swords like me....

  • @nightbird720 don't they fold AND clay temps

  • @1bol1 this particular model has no folds, just differential tempering. I don't think any of the Odachi sold by Kensei is folded.

  • now that, is one sharp odachi.

  • that's a beautiful sword! - sweet cuts too

  • now thats what i call a sword!

    awesome!

  • i like that its not just a really long katana with a short tsuka.tsuka length looks proportionate and very well balanced. this is definitely what id get if i could afford it. sori looks good as well.

  • very nice

  • thanks

  • how do you do noto with that?

  • I wouldn't advise to do it , but, it can be done very slowly. You also feel very awkward.

  • wow very nice, i was surprised at how well that cut, i would imagine it's hard to cut with such a giant sword.

  • holy shit that thing is a beast. nice cutting man, i praise your strength

  • thanks

  • Nice tenegui..lol

  • damn dude! is that tsuba big enough for that sword or what?! it looks as big as a dinner plate :-p

  • LOL it's about 4 1/4" round
