Sort of, however the reputation systems wouldn't be applied solely to video makers but to commenters as well. Not sure what Google will do to change things, they have expressly said they intend to use this to further video marketing so hehe I am thinking more commercialization in some form. Time shall tell :)
Great thoughts, points, and ideas that you've brought up here. Sometimes I feel uncomfortable when I know a child watches my videos because I sometimes use adult language in them. Giving your own videos a certain rating range is a good idea. For now, I must try to remember to control my mouth in my videos darnit;) I enjoyed you sharing your thoughts with us again. Take care.
Good points all and very well said. I hope YT pays attention to the growing problems and starts actually thinking about these problems and ways to fix them.
Great ideas Sharon. Mature content warning is a definite winner. Establishing someone's reputation for the top 100 may be difficult, eg what is the criteria required, who establishes it etc but it has def merit.
One way to wound the haters is for YT to introduce a one email address-one account policy. Allowing multiple accounts is only encouraging certain 'types' to abuse the place.
Well right now, people who put videos up are already under some of reputation system (flagging), but it is determined by a viewer. That was what I was trying to work around. hehe I admit it isn't perfect, more like a conversation starter perhaps!
I understand what you're saying, but I have to disagree just a little. I agree that ppl should rate their own videos G, PG, R, XXX. I also agree that kids probably should not be on YouTube with out parental supervision. Not being a parent or a responsible adult :) I don't like censorship. If DCLugi wants to swear I think he should be able to. You won't hear me cussing on hear because I have high standards of my own.
Commerical videos are not allowed, I wish they were, The user agreement says not to. Yahoo video allows commerical content if its yours; I may use them for that purpose in specific. FYI, if someone gives me hater comments I go to their page and block them, I do that if they attack my friends too. You can limit the haters in that way. If we only allowed our subscribers to watch, the new good ppl would not find us. I love your video's and I wouldn't want them restricted just your friends.
Hehe well thank you and I am not sure I would do that anyway, plus I don't get too much hatemail but I think some of the more agressively attacked people might. And I agree that people should be able to cuss as long as their video gets classified as such. But people get flagged for some of the most innocuous things things now, I just think that classifying will stop some of that. And debate is always welcome!
some very good points indeed. But I think the way forward is a paid subscription ... not that I want it, but it will bring (I think, hope!) the added security to stop the so called haters from getting accounts in the first place or at least tracing them and stopping them opening more on the same credit details. It would also perhaps pay for the resources to improve the system where required. That's the theory anyway!
well my mind did trip down that road but I was trying to avoid that. Realistically though, they would likely need to go to paid subscriptions to implement some of this stuff methinks.
Paid subscriptions would solve a lot of the problems, and if youtube were to take a week or so and solve its bug problems I wouldn't mind paying.I would not pay for it as is.
You touched on some very good points,I have to say I am beginning to wonder if youtube even cares anymore. It's almost as if they've started this thing and then went on permanent vacation.I don't watch the youtube stars, they bore me,but I do look at the most recent, and boy howdy is there some indecent stuff that pops up there.I am not a prude but this type stuff puts the entire internet at risk, and I like the internet.
Some very good points. But any new rating system will still be subject to abuse. The "reputation system"...isn't that already the director program?
Now that google has bought you-tube a lot will be changing.
I agree there should be a clear didtinction between 'personal' videos and those ripped off from TV or comercially produced.

Unfortunately it is some those videos that will ruin it for all as they dont really care about a daily suspension of their accounts.
