@posthumanfetus It's basically Celebrated because it was stopped in time. Fawkes was originally thought of as an American Benedict Arnold or a Russian Rasputin. He was remembered as a villain, and a failed villain at that: a turn coat, a little crazy, and a failure at being both.
Kids would make scarecrows or life sized dolls to burn, and draw his face on a mask to put on the scare crow. (Guy Fawkes mask).
From there, a comic book character that deliberately used it as an irony was born.
@falstoffe I can see that. Honestly, if the plan actually did go through, it would have probably turned England into an anarchist country that would have just split up into a bunch of city states, all governed by fighting warlords like feudal Japan. So really it's good that they caught him.
The weird thing is that lately he's been seen as less of a terrorist and more like some kind of martyr, probably because of the comic book and movie.
@posthumanfetus There plan was not anarchy but absolutism. That's the biggest irony of it all. Kill the king, all his descendants, and all potential successors at once, and then the catholics rise up simultaneously and install a catholic king backed by Rome. That was the Catesby vision. The realisty: If the gunpowder went off, what realistically would've happened was full scale slaughter of all catholics, all bets off. They were outnumbered 20 to one.
@posthumanfetus Google the "Marian Persecutitions" if you are interested in the Backstory. It's interesting to see how cruel & unusual, innocent until guilty, religious tolerance, separated powers, "you're king because we allow you to be" evolved from all of this. Mary I tried to return England to Rome. Elizabeth I and James switched it back to "Parliament has power." There was a rematch in 1649, and another rematch in 1688, which Northern Ireland is only JUST NOW starting to get over.
"THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED STATES IS NOT IN ANY SENSE FOUNDED ON THE CHRISTIAN RELIGION." (Treaty of Tripoli, Article 11: Written during the Administration of George Washington and signed into law by John Adams.)
Torture is far worse a crime than either treason or murder. It is the most despicable thing you can do to another human being and people who do it deserve to die.
@WonderWoman200290 what the fuck? torture should be allowed to be performed on criminals, if we had tougher punishments like that id bet my life crime would go down in the UK because people would be scared to commit crimes, the way it needs to be. At the moment people commit crimes because they simply dont care, if they go to prison so what? They have no bills, free food, free accomodation, relax all day, no work. This is exactly what these thugs want!
@KingKonk95 So you want us all to live in fear, to refrain from wrong doing simply because we are afraid of violent retribution? How far should it go? Should people be tortured for littering, graffiti or speeding offences? Could - God forbid - a law abiding citizen such as yourself fall foul of authority and find yourself on the rack because someone in power takes a dislike to you?
Shame he didnt succeed, i dont think anyone would miss those corrupt and useless people we call the government, who use our money to buy themselves cars and holidays, the uk needs to have a revolution and get rid of these tossers.

Yes, I am and have argued in favour of Monarchy and the reasons are all laid out in my opinions on this page. I see from your response that your charisma bi-pass operation was a great success.
@ingerlander I'm with you - a Westminster system with checks and balances, embodied by the Monarch and the sober second thought of an upper chamber (Senate or House of Lords) is far better than a republican dictatorship of the politicians.
@dimalex8 i dont know the full story i was just saying that stopfear had no idea what he was fighting for/against and i knew that v for vendetta metiond him and that it was an amazing movie :P
The german BND is like cancer. It affects sane countries and starts to grow uncontrollable. The BND snitchers use their surveillance and brainwashing techniques to spread its metastases. These are then used to drain as much money and goods from the affected country to finance their greed and their aim of world governance. There is, as with cancer, only one cure. To cut out any snitcherous tissue and to prevent the spreading of the disease through a strong and radical chemical.
Shit, why is people so ignorant?! Who the fucking cares where this happened? U should know that it has happened, is happening everywhere, so stop fucking thinking ur country is the bes.t Because its not. Its ruled by humans, and we humans are this fucked up.
britan is a little island full of old people who think that they are beter than every one els even if they don't admit it i mean basicly any country that wanted to could take over the whole isl if they went 100% full power aginst the british people and of corse AMERICA WOULD HAVE TO SAVE THEM LIKE WE DID IN WWI AND WW2 becuse britan os just a snobby little country who thinks that they are all that calling americans stupid well WHO GAVE YOU THE MONEY TO EVEN REBUILD BRITAN AFTER WW2 HUH F U UK
@hellzshotgun Lol, what an ignorant fucker. Who gave you the people, the money and the blood to be who you are now? Americans need some lessons in humillity...
@palatena hey ass hole i know that this is like 1 week after you reply but even if england didnt start America then france would have so dont be taking credit for somthing that you tryd to have an allmost communist control over it when if someone els did it there wouldent have been a revilution and that just proves that you are the ignorant fucker and what do you mean we need a leson in humility just geting your ass kicked in both world wars is funny to enough dont you think?
@andrew8833 This isnt a game, man. You defeating us only means you had a better army (and allies) And I refuse to be a part of the "you" when refering to that war. The people from Argentina never wanted that war. It was the delirious attempt of a militar usurper to legitimate his state of terrorism.
We could do with a Fuy Fawkes today. It is Parliament and MP's who are traitors, liars, thieves, country wreckers and they are destroying our national identity by ethnic and racial dilution in the most calculating manner.
To all those who disagree, you will find out the hard way, no matter who you are. It means the enslavement of all.
@dubbigot WOW blows Arabs you say, clearly you have researched this subject much more than I and your eloquence has won me over. LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC. And now I have to move on to other horizons and you can point your frothing mouth to other subjects. I gave it some thought as to why you were in this site in the first place and then it dawned on me, you typed in "torture" didn't you. May I suggest that the next word you type in is "therapy". Good riddance.
@ingerlander , so you finally gave up trying to convince me of the wonders of monarchs , must have been my reminder of how filthy these people are , a pox on you and your sad devotion to a rotten crown
@ingerlander Is there really some backwards jackass argueing in favor of monarchy? Surely you must of been joking. The only good Monarchy ever did was make people restless enough to actually stand up to your tyrannical inbred idols that you seem to worship so that the human race could advance beyond the cave man born ideal of royalty. if anyone needs therapy its you buddy.
You are Irish and you hate the Queen but that is a given. What I would like to know from you is just why it is that you hate her personally. If you reply I will, in return , answer your question and gladly, although I do not see the point as your prejudice was fed to you via your mothers milk.
@ingerlander , i despise anyone who lives off the backs of others , her family haven't done a days work ever and live the high life , dont class fundraising as a job , its a hobby used to make a rich person feel better about themselves , the palace is the worlds biggest and most lavish council house , paid for by workers and lived in by non workers , make sure to click on the reply to the right , your last comment didnt come to my account , i just happened to check this page .
Power is a fleeting thing. One day you have the power of life and death over all your people and then next you are stood in front of a firing squad Ceausescu like and shot along side your wife who is thrown in for good measure. Stable and enduring democracies have a series of checks and balances that prevent any individual from seizing power and making a dictatorship. The powers of the state that dictator must control are:
The armed forces, the police and the judiciary. Why has this never happened in Britain and yet great states such as Germany, France and Italy have succumbed is because of our system of government.....Constitutional Monarchy.
The Monarch is head of state but has no power to institute political measures. She is entirely none political, cannot vote and cannot issue a political statement unless sanctioned by her government. She is above politics.
The government in it's turn receives a mandate through the ballot box as the will of the people and it is therefore the people that are the source of power. The people consent to give to the Monarch the instruments of state power in trust. All the armed forces, police and judiciary pledge allegiance to the Monarch and NOT a politician. The circle is complete. To see the Monarch as a mere figure head and an excuse for pageantry is all too often
the only thing that anyone sees which suitably distracts from the power and authority she can command under extreme circumstances. Let us imagine that we have a Prime Minister that sees himself as the source of his own power and exceeds his constitutional boundaries. Troops are called out onto the streets, civil liberties curtailed, curfews imposed and the opposition arrested. What could we do. We would turn to the Monarch
who with the powers entrusted to her by the people would wield the power to dismiss his parliament and even order his arrest. Yes people, she can do that. Her role is less to exercise power than to keep power in it's proper proportion.
dubbigot, I am glad you have made a new life in the U.S.A. a country perceived as young and yet, did you know that it's constitution is older than that of Germany, France and Italy combined.
It was born of British political heritage and English common law, nice place to start. dubbigot, had you not been accepted into the states and wanted to emigrate anyway, which countries would top your list. Let me guess, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. What is it that these first class democracies have in common.
@ingerlander , still dont understand why you want to bow to and financially support a greedy layabout with a family of scumbags and hypocrites , if your happy go ahead but its not for me , and shouldn't be for any part of Ireland , 32 soon .
@dubbigot When Harold Wilson became Prime Minister (the worst in British history) he arrived at Buckingham Palace for his first weekly meeting with the Queen thinking he was to have tea and discuss the weather. She grilled him about his polices and he, not being prepared, left with his tail between his legs. He said that he would never make the same mistake again. She is not a greedy layabout, she is an intrinsic part of a political system that works. Let's leave it at that. Best wishes.
@dubbigot Upwards of 300 million people live under this system and in some of the most desirable countries on earth. All have every human and legal right there is and all are free born. Millions line up at immigration offices dreaming of a spot in the "dark ages". Millions of people lucky enough to get to these "dark" spots , get, upon placing their foot on it's soil, rights they could only dream of and most are from your beloved republics. Try a week in Zimbabwe, I will pay for it.
@ingerlander , zimbabwe is not a democratic republic , but it is an example of plunder by your forefathers , another land destroyed by a foreign monarch , your ilk tried toconvince my people for 800 years about how great you are , not working still, so stop, republic forever , monarchy in hell begging forgivness that it doesn't deserve
@dubbigot 800 years to convince you how good we are. It must surely rank as the longest and most convincing P.R. campaign in human history. The proof is in the pudding, how many millions of Irish have settled in England and how many more are set to join them. There is barely a family in England that cannot brag an Irish descendant. My grandmother is Irish and her mother signed her birth certificate with a cross as she was an illiterate Irish peasant. I have a copy, quite touching.
@ingerlander , the worst ever , we still dont like monarchies , af course some went to england , they had to get work , the monarch's used ireland as a food source to feed the military on their voyage around the world to spread misery and plunder , you are obviously proud of these rampaging rapists , i wouldn't ,
@dubbigot Your answer is groundless. I have an Irish mate. We played rugby together for 15 years. We played, fought and boozed together as real mates. But every now and then after a few beers he would enter into this anti English rant as though he didn't know me. You see dubbigot, long before your brains mature or you can reason for yourself you are filled with anti English drivel. I always forgave him for I always saw him for what he was, merely his fathers ventriloquist dummy.
@ingerlander my friend if you believe that maintaining the royal family is a vital pre-condition to maintaining your personal freedom as an englishmen, you are far afield from the truth.
@ingerlander if your govt. decided tomorrow to remove the royal family , your day-to-day life would be impacted not even slightly. your tax payers have pumped a very significant amount of britains wealth into maintaining the royal family over the past century. all you got for that was a great deal of pomp and circumstance. and of course , the occasional scandal.
@stardaddyo9 First of all, the government could not remove the monarch without a referendum and the British people are far more in the habit of removing their governments instead. If the British people were to enter into such a radical change in the way they are governed then a new constitution would need to written up with new checks and balances essential to keep politicians in their rightful place. For it is the monarchy that is there to see that that happens under conditions of power abuse.
Well, i dont care if it was intricate, it was cold blooded terrorism planned to wipe out hundreds of people, and plunge the country into chaos and Spanish occupation. Being hung drawn and quartered was too much for a terrorist like Fawkes
it wasnt rebellion-it was terrorism. He planned to kill hundreds-not all of whom were politicians or nobles. He then planned to use the event to incite a religiously based uprising, which would have resulted in a Spanish invasion, the implementation of a Spanish, and as a result of the current times, authoritarian government, and the implementation of the inquisition which would have killed thousands of non catholics.
How is that different from current religious terrorism such as Al Quaeda
yes, thay got such a grim deal-look at India now, a rising superpower which still uses British style political institutions, still has an infrastructure provided by the British (the worlds biggest railway network?).
Then I think you're a goddamn idiot who doesn't understand the freedoms we have here in this country compared to just about every other country in the world.
The honesty & transparency of releasing the Torture Photos will help protect Americans and Troops. Only as long as justice is eagerly sought as well, & The War Criminals are Tried in view of the world community.
Publicizing the photos WITHOUT seking justice, will NOT create %1. more grudges by the Victim Nations than already exists
But publicizing the photos will create a %1000. increase in grudges by the AMERICAN PEOPLE who will be ASHAMED ASHAMED ASHAMED ASHAMED ASHAMED ASHAMED
While the publications are unpleasant, the story must be told. We can not remain silent about the abuses and atrocities committed by anyone. Can not and should not mute ...
"What bothers me is not the cry of the poor, is the silence of the good." (Rev. Luther King Jr.)
You must be American. Monarchists are for rats you say. The British system of government with it's constitutional monarchy has served both this world and those that adopted it, very well. It is a system that could not be invented but needed 1000 years to evolve. Your democracy, based on English common law as are many and should you wish to understand just how ingenious the British system is then I would be willing to explain it. Just let me know.
Treason? The only reason is that on the British Throne are usurpers since 400 years.
Long live Guy Fawkes and the true British monarchy!

@ingerlander I'm with you - a Westminster system with checks and balances, embodied by the Monarch and the sober second thought of an upper chamber (Senate or House of Lords) is far better than a republican dictatorship of the politicians.

Constitutional Monarchy part 1.
The powers of the state that dictator must control are:
ingerlander 1 year ago
@dubbigot
Constitutional Monarchy part 2.
She is above politics.
ingerlander 1 year ago
@dubbigot
Constitutional Monarchy part 3.
To see the Monarch as a mere figure head and an excuse for pageantry is all too often
ingerlander 1 year ago
@dubbigot
Constitutional Monarchy part 4.
the only thing that anyone sees which suitably distracts from the power and authority she can command under extreme circumstances. Let us imagine that we have a Prime Minister that sees himself as the source of his own power and exceeds his constitutional boundaries. Troops are called out onto the streets, civil liberties curtailed, curfews imposed and the opposition arrested. What could we do. We would turn to the Monarch
ingerlander 1 year ago
@dubbigot
Constitutional Monarchy part 5.
who with the powers entrusted to her by the people would wield the power to dismiss his parliament and even order his arrest. Yes people, she can do that. Her role is less to exercise power than to keep power in it's proper proportion.
dubbigot, I am glad you have made a new life in the U.S.A. a country perceived as young and yet, did you know that it's constitution is older than that of Germany, France and Italy combined.
ingerlander 1 year ago
@dubbigot
Constitutional Monarchy part 6.
It was born of British political heritage and English common law, nice place to start. dubbigot, had you not been accepted into the states and wanted to emigrate anyway, which countries would top your list. Let me guess, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. What is it that these first class democracies have in common.
ingerlander 1 year ago
@ingerlander , still dont understand why you want to bow to and financially support a greedy layabout with a family of scumbags and hypocrites , if your happy go ahead but its not for me , and shouldn't be for any part of Ireland , 32 soon .
dubbigot 1 year ago
@dubbigot When Harold Wilson became Prime Minister (the worst in British history) he arrived at Buckingham Palace for his first weekly meeting with the Queen thinking he was to have tea and discuss the weather. She grilled him about his polices and he, not being prepared, left with his tail between his legs. He said that he would never make the same mistake again. She is not a greedy layabout, she is an intrinsic part of a political system that works. Let's leave it at that. Best wishes.

@dubbigot So you missed the point. Hardly surprising.
ingerlander 1 year ago
@ingerlander , didnt miss any point , the point is simple , i like republics and you like kissing ass to an out dated relic of the dark ages ,
dubbigot 1 year ago
@dubbigot Upwards of 300 million people live under this system and in some of the most desirable countries on earth. All have every human and legal right there is and all are free born. Millions line up at immigration offices dreaming of a spot in the "dark ages". Millions of people lucky enough to get to these "dark" spots , get, upon placing their foot on it's soil, rights they could only dream of and most are from your beloved republics. Try a week in Zimbabwe, I will pay for it.
ingerlander 1 year ago
@ingerlander , zimbabwe is not a democratic republic , but it is an example of plunder by your forefathers , another land destroyed by a foreign monarch , your ilk tried toconvince my people for 800 years about how great you are , not working still, so stop, republic forever , monarchy in hell begging forgivness that it doesn't deserve
dubbigot 1 year ago
@dubbigot 800 years to convince you how good we are. It must surely rank as the longest and most convincing P.R. campaign in human history. The proof is in the pudding, how many millions of Irish have settled in England and how many more are set to join them. There is barely a family in England that cannot brag an Irish descendant. My grandmother is Irish and her mother signed her birth certificate with a cross as she was an illiterate Irish peasant. I have a copy, quite touching.
ingerlander 1 year ago
@ingerlander , the worst ever , we still dont like monarchies , af course some went to england , they had to get work , the monarch's used ireland as a food source to feed the military on their voyage around the world to spread misery and plunder , you are obviously proud of these rampaging rapists , i wouldn't ,
dubbigot 1 year ago
@dubbigot Your answer is groundless. I have an Irish mate. We played rugby together for 15 years. We played, fought and boozed together as real mates. But every now and then after a few beers he would enter into this anti English rant as though he didn't know me. You see dubbigot, long before your brains mature or you can reason for yourself you are filled with anti English drivel. I always forgave him for I always saw him for what he was, merely his fathers ventriloquist dummy.
ingerlander 1 year ago
@ingerlander do you really image that it is cost effective to have the royal family as the intrinsic part of your political system?
stardaddyo9 1 year ago
@stardaddyo9 The cost you ask, well what price freedom. To quote Oscar Wilde "you think of the cost of everything and the value of nothing".
ingerlander 1 year ago
@ingerlander my friend if you believe that maintaining the royal family is a vital pre-condition to maintaining your personal freedom as an englishmen, you are far afield from the truth.
stardaddyo9 1 year ago
@stardaddyo9 And just what is the truth, explain yourself. I eagerly await your reply. Be it far from me to deny myself enlightenment.
ingerlander 1 year ago
@ingerlander if your govt. decided tomorrow to remove the royal family , your day-to-day life would be impacted not even slightly. your tax payers have pumped a very significant amount of britains wealth into maintaining the royal family over the past century. all you got for that was a great deal of pomp and circumstance. and of course , the occasional scandal.
stardaddyo9 1 year ago
@stardaddyo9 First of all, the government could not remove the monarch without a referendum and the British people are far more in the habit of removing their governments instead. If the British people were to enter into such a radical change in the way they are governed then a new constitution would need to written up with new checks and balances essential to keep politicians in their rightful place. For it is the monarchy that is there to see that that happens under conditions of power abuse.

not terrorism. rebellion. ben franklin said there should be a rebellion in the U.S. every 20 years, though, i'm not sure where i heard that...
but still, change for the better, not terrorism.
cloud4an 2 years ago
it wasnt rebellion-it was terrorism.

You must be American. Monarchists are for rats you say. The British system of government with it's constitutional monarchy has served both this world and those that adopted it, very well. It is a system that could not be invented but needed 1000 years to evolve. Your democracy, based on English common law as are many and should you wish to understand just how ingenious the British system is then I would be willing to explain it. Just let me know.
