DrNeroCF LoL you are so wise! Except you are wrong. You are freaking excellent at animating, and taking more time your stuff ends up being more than perfect!! A thousand honest congrats, dude! I envy your framing and smooth animations, though!
dude...you are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO patient!! you need to draw everything over and over and over and over again. well, the results say: 'yup, that's why I'm so great.' But damn you do work hard!
Whenever someone says my drawings/sketches are terrible, that's like one of the worst insults to me because I'm the 2nd best sketcher/drawer in my class.
@encinalpop: Haha, lots of music, I've gone through every Angry Video Game Nerd, Nostalgia Critic and Nostalgia Chick video, and quite a few IGN podcasts
@encinalpop: I don't know, I'd like to get away from doing most of the coding myself, I'm pretty slow and not really that great of a programmer. Wish I could talk to Adobe first and see their reasoning in that. I know a lot of devs who are more designer centric, but they use much older versions of Flash anyway.
@MegzPivotguy: Well, that's what the program's set to, the actual running frame rate is 30, I clock it back down with a while command to keep a smooth framerate, otherwise it's sort of jittery.
You are my hero. I love your games and the way you animate. I want to make a game but I don't know enough about Action Script I'm a beginner at AS2 but I want to drop it for AS3 because I recently got my hands on a cheap CS3 up from Flash 8. I NEED A TABLET NOW!! Any way I agree with you, to say games aren't art is blasphemy! If everyone knew what it took to make a game their view of it would change. It's an art form like writing is, but a bit misunderstood.
@PivotDXer: 40, 50 is definitely too high. CS5 seems to have slightly better smoothing, too (CS4 is a big improvement also, I believe...). Also, with the Cintiq, I'm able to draw much smoother, but sometimes Flash will still be a pain and I'll just have to hit undo until a line gets right, either way.
Video games are art. This is my personal opinion. They combine drawing, animation, and story into one amazing package, and it's fun! Video games are infinately more fun than going to a museum and looking at some painting. At least, that's what I think. And I'm 15, so... what do I know. :)
DUDE you are amazing and yes this is art. Amazing. I would pay 50 bucks a video mail order dvd if you made video tutorials like a set of 50 I would buy every single one for 50$ each I would do it I want to learn and you are the best to teach. Emanuele Feronato is good, but she doesn't compare to you at all.
Games are definitely art, in fact imo they are one of the most effective ways of communication, because you have to be put in whatever the game character's (or whatever) POV is. So obviously it can be an extraordinarily good way of communicating w/e you are trying to communicate, you get emotionally attached to characters, and so on and so forth. Using game engines (and FPA is a good example of this, with all the crazy jumping around and whatnot) you can also express something yourself.
I might have showed it to you before, but I believe I made a playlist of glitches in worlds 1 and 2, in the hope of you fixing them and for once having a glitchless game.
I feel like I should come to you for this..you are the person who inspired me to want to get into game development. I don't know what I should do right now. I feel my game idea, Riley, is some what completed... but I'm just...stuck. I can create the game once I figure out how to... but I don't know what to do next. I have the story, the levels, concept, and sequels planned out... but if you look at the gameplay and even character design of FPA and Riley, you'll find them very smiler.
i happen to disagree with you to a point.video games can't be art, art is a form in which us, humans, express our emotions. art on display is where we lose ourselves within our emotions, and get lost in the artistic simplicity, or the divine complexity. a place where the mind loses the body and loses itself within the
object of focus (music, paintings etc.) In video games however, we don't lose ourselves. we don't drown in the beaut of nature. no, we express our selves continuously, we find ourselves again,as someone else, doing things we wish we could do, video games are more than art, a divine form of true meaning.
You are my idol! It's incredible what someone can do with Flash, something I find utterly insane, and make it look as good as you make it in FPA! I would pay some good money for this game. You could make 20 bucks a person with the art you've created here. And this is definitely an art. An incredible art. You are a master at this art and I seriously think you should make some money off of this and turn it into a franchise!! Good job, man! I look forward to playing this game!
its is an art really but a moving art you don't have too look at a picture siting still doing nothing its quite boring really plus video games test your wits AND there fun so of course its an art ;)
hey I just came up with the best idea EVER! so I was sitting in my room thinking about the FPA 3 when I started thinking you got the cool enemies you got the awesome tricks for FPM but I was just missing the other pirates you only have two different Types so I got this Idea a Pirate cannoneer I don't think it needs all that much animation but I wouldn't know to much about that but think about it a stationary long range enemy shooting cannon balls at you I don't need any credit if you do it bye
I applaud you for your work and you are definitely talented. I think another great game that showcases art and fluid animations is Uncharted 2. That game was just spectacular. I'm excited to World three and by the way, these videos are awesome. Keep up the great work!
that should take a lot of time, and how the animations move so smoothly makes it the best flash game ever, besides the action it has it makes u have hours of fun, so yeah it's a piece of art º3º
I try and find out what people think of games and weather or not they count as art and most the time the people I ask just don't know. like you said they're made to be sold and though this has been the case for many art medias in the past games just haven't been around long enough yet. Movies have been around for a while and people have had time to adjust to them. Some people may say making toys is an art but most people don't. Games aren't toys but have always been seen that way.
@DrNeroCF The art on this game is astounding. Not only do you master game coding, but you master art. It's like a doctor/dentist. Oh yeah, and you master patching it all together. OK, you doctor/dentist/lawyer!
I agree that games are an art,but only some can be considered good art.I also agree that being fancy pants man is amazing. You can just tell that you put so much effort in to every little detail.
Its completely idiotic and i do agree, anything anyone creates is a piece of art. Just think of all the hard work from the artist's part. Love your work, your the best flash animator i have seen so far :D
