Unlocking allows you to use your iphone on other carriers other than ATT. There is a jailbreak for 3.0, but no unlock for the 3GS. You can get cracked itunes apps from Installulous.

if you follow these exact steps this will work!! If you get hung up on the first step in quickpwn and it wont go to where you hold home for 5 seconds. unplug and turn off iphone. hold the home button and while doing so plug it back in and it should continue thru steps!! worked like a charm!!!

The whole thing works just fine until I get to the section that starts with QuickPwn putting the iPhone into recovery mode. It does it, but it does not recognize it doing it on the program. Therefore, the next step never becomes bolded, and I can't take it any further. Help???
