Who said Gobbi did not have a beautiful voice? He combined much beauty with incredible dramatic expression and sensitivity. This performance rivals that of Ruffo's recording of the aria.

Sorry, but the best Renato recording was and remains that of Robert Merrill and Mitropoulos (NY MET 195?). Even better as Leonard Warren, Paolo Silveri and all the baritones of the earth together
