@themaniusedtob New technology is always more expensive! Just look at the prices of plasma screens when they first came out. The price will come down after these guys have recouped development costs and people get used to such a mode of transport. I think it is brilliant! If it weren't for such pioneers sticking out their necks and taking a chance, we wouldn't ever see new gadgets on the market.
Also, i forgot to include in my previous comment. For $5,000 you can buy yourself a pretty good second-hand car or use that $5,000 for a deposit onto a brand new fuel effecient car.
The fact of the matter is that it's better than bicycle, but a bicycle can carry side racks & baskets which people use for when they go shopping. It cost's $5,000, you can go to your local bike shop & buy a good bike for a couple hundrend dollars & also purchasing sideracks/front basket/ fenders/lights. You take the risk of getting it stolen, but that's y u buy a good bike lock. The yike-bike might have better turning radius, but you can buya gasoline engine & mount it onto your bike.
5,000? What a fucking scam. Thing probably cost less than 500 in China. This thing is all fucking hype. I'll wait till a Chinese copy comes out for 200 dollars.
Yes, they have to recoup their startup costs just like every other product in the world. This scooter costs nearly as much as a segway which is a far far more complicated and unprecedented vehicle. The Yikebike has two big engineering challenges 1 the folding, and 2 the hubless drive wheel, and neither of those seem that big a deal to me.
god i hate people who video in portrait just because it's the normal way to hold your phone. face palm

It is pretty slick, but $5k is too much for an electric scooter.
macrumpton 2 years ago
But there is nothing like this out on the market.
Its $5K because they have to recoup the development costs that went into making it. Materials, factory production, R&D, employee pay, etc.
