What do you think it's a magic trick? As someone who's studied birds my whole life, here is the likelihood/probability: First of all if you've ever picked up a fish out of the ocean, a lot of them are SO spiny, you can't even handle them. Additionally, some are heavy, and flop so strongly, you can't hold onto them anyway. So it's easy deductive-logic to ascertain the pelican's MORE than capable of eating the pigeon since it's only got a small beak & it's toenails for defense. Feathers? No prob.
