The notion that a religion like Islam would advocate the killing of your own child is preposterous. Where one must acknowledge that honor killings do take place it is important to determine the root cause of the problem which is not religion. Honor killings have existed in Catholic societies in Italy, in Hindu and Sikh societies in India, in China and also various parts of the muslim world. The common factor would be the strong notion of 'family honor' which comes before everything else.

Honour killings have no connection whatsoever to any religion. The notion of killing your daughter if she brings shame to the family exists in various extremely conservative cultures around the world and there are instances of such criminal acts in China, India, Pakistan, Sicily, certain south american cultures etc. and the muslim world. Honor killings tend to take place in societies that have a strong notion of family honor.

I don't believe that any religion truly promotes acts of violence. I do believe, however, that people will manipulate religious interpretation to excuse their violent actions. I'm sure that Islam is a religion of peace, or at least meant to be. but like with any other faith, there will always be those who abuse it.

Well said. there is already enough hate out there between religions, but if everyone followed their religion Correctly, then living in peace is most definitely possible. (Although i believe much of the hate is sparked by Media, which focuses on differences on religion, race, nationalities, etc. whenever the chance arrises.)
One of the reasons i uploaded this video was because when Rifqa was presumed innocent, the media took the opputunity to once again exploit the attack on religion.

Actually, no one is quite sure how old Mary or Joseph were when they married. It is estimated that Mary was between the ages of 12 and 16 while Joseph was probably in his late 30s, early 40s. But you're right, there probably was quite an age gap, and it's unfair of anyone to judge the practices of Muhammad's day by modern standards. It was a common practice for older men to marry young girls back in those days and it should not reflect negatively on the prophet's moral character.

It is very egotistical for some to think that the rest of the world and all of history must conform to the lifestyle of our generation, of our time, of our state of residence.
Marriage at a young age may seem out of place where we live, but it was commonplace in other times and places. And their description of marriage was different.

The Qur'an says that the penalty for apostasy is death while the Bible says disobedient children should be killed. Both religions contain violent messages, the only difference is that most Christians don't follow through with it anymore. However, just like there are still Christians who shoot at abortionists, there are also still Muslims who perform honor killings. I just don't think Rifqa's family are those kinds of Muslims.

I do remember reading something like that in the Quran, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were in the Bible too. Either way, I don't trust the fundamentalists of either religion. Both have exposed themselves too many times to be liars, manipulators, and hypocrites.

The Quran clearly states, "There is no compulsion in religion, truth stands out from error" while the penalty for apostasy in both Christianity and Judaism is death.
Now lets look at the Hadith which the muslim bashers also try to manipulate; In one instance where a muslim left Islam and plotted againts the state, he was put to death. In another instance the prophet (PBUH) allowed an apostate to go free. So what do we derive from this: that death is the penalty for treason and not apostasy.

She drank the Kool-Aid. If the Church really cared for her, then they would have asked her to pretend to be Muslim for less than a year. And when she turned 18 she could leave home with no case against her.
Instead the Church used her for the Media attention.

Media attention. psh. What good would that do for the church, knowing how intolerant America has become of us? I can name over a dozen honor killings that happened in the West. She was pretending for the last 3 years. She said it was the mosque that found out and the rumors began to swirl until her father confronted her about it . Chances are much higher that she felt threatend enough to leave. Islam is very intolerant of converting to another religion.

They didn't care about the life of the girl or separating a family.
All the Church wants to do it attract people to their own cult. They have used bread and money before and now are using these bizarre tactics. Its pathetic. Once people realize the truth about the Church they will be running for the hills.
I hope Rifqa doesn't come out after 20 years with molestation charges against the Priest.

Imams molest children too, it's not a Christian specific trait.
They saw it as an attempt to make another religion look bad and theirs to look good. It's obvious.
But that isn't saying that she didn't need help. In the UK a mother and father killed their daughter for having a boyfriend. She phoned the emergency services and the entire event was recorded.
Her screams slowly died down as she was repeatedly stabbed, ending with her father saying softly to her
"Die my daughter"

As far as penalty for apostasy in Islam is concerned, its not death. Only the ignorant people believe it is.
Some scholars have suggested death only for apostasy when combined with high treason . Most countries in the world today have the penalty of death or life imprisonment for high treason.

I agree that some of the acts the Israelis commit *I* would classify as terrorism, but
1: Those people in London on the 7th of July were NOT responsible.
2: They were UK citizens acting in the name of their religion.

Just look at the video "Rifqa Bary's parents" which shows how liberal her father is, he let her join the cheer leading squad and next year he was gonna let her go off to college and live out. She could have converted to Christianity then without having to put anyone through any of this!

so say she did sign up to cheer leading behind her father's back, why didnt he do something about it? i am sure he would have found out sooner or later, her staying behind after school quite late during the cheer practies and so on also he was willing to let her live out and go to colege next year. Also if she did sign up to the cheer leading squad behind her father's back why does he have the picture of the whole squad in a frame showing to the reporters in the video "Rifqz Bary's parents"

That was just a guess, and if it's an accurate guess, he might've found out about her apostasy at the same time.
Who knows if he had those pictures the whole time? He could've gotten them from her friends. She seems to have many friends.

you can be a moderate anything, to be honest. The Bary family, like most modern Muslims, don't follow their religion to the letter. If they did, I would agree that Rifqa's life is in danger. However, the parents clearly love their child much, much more than they do their religious traditions. They came to the US specifically for their daughters sake; and because she's a Christian and has become brainwashed by a small evangelical cult, she now thinks her parents are gonna hurt her.
