  • MY Doctor. The BEST Doctor.

  • After hearing Nick Briggs' voice coming from the Daleks for so long, I actually did a double take when the voice sounded funny. Oops, I should finish watching the Classic Series.

  • i can still remember the dayjohn died and my heart sunk i was such a massive fan of him. and my heart sa for days i was crying he was my icon and everything i thrive to do in my life i do it because of the inspiration of john. i love you my jon pertwee. u are my doctor

  • You know, at least the man went out putting a smile on someone's face. Can't go wrong with that.

  • bloke was a genius

  • wonderful video.jon pertwee what a performer.....david seems a nice lad and deserved his surprise.well done david.i wonder if david still has a interest in dr who?good luck david in all that you do....thanks for posting this video.... .

  • Jon was marvellous a cheerful great doctor I wish he was still around so I could meet the fellow.

  • RIP Jon. One of the greatest Doctors we ever had the pleasure of watching. I never knew this was his last ever TV appearence. Felt kinda sad watching this, but it was still wonderful.

  • I saw him at a conbention in Pittsburg. He was effortlessly charming, witty & in all ways the picture of an English gentleman. Sadly missed.

  • Lucky boy!

  • Jon looks AMAZING, when was this made? He coulda still played Dr. Who, when this was made. lol

  • @boofdfast apparently just a few weeks before his death in 96... difficult to understand.

  • Jon Pertwee = DOCTOR WHO !

we miss you Jon, very much!

  • he was the best doctor by far

  • Absolutely wonderful, and fantastic memories for David!

  • You see, that's where all the kissing started!

  • I had the privilege of meeting Jon Pertwee just weeks before he passed away (1996). He was, as always, a true gentleman and an amazing ambassador for Dr. Who. We miss you Jon, God Bless.

  • Now THIS is quality! Back when the BBC was actually nice to people!

  • Now THIS is quality! Back when the BBC was actually nice to people!

  • That was amazingly cool! Now if only I could have met Tom Baker in person when I was a kid!

  • I am the DOCTOR Hello Hello sit yourself sit yourself hello Doctor Hi miss Black.

  • What is remarkable is that Jon Pertwee was doing a public appearance as a character he had last played regularly about twenty years earlier. And that this was probably about six years after the show's first run had finished. And yet it remained in the public consciousness enough for this segment to be considered by Surprise Surprise's producers, including four key elements of the series: The Doctor, The TARDIS, The theme music and a Dalek.

  • Jon Pertwee was famous for promoting Dr Who - even after he left the show.

It's little things like this that show what a wonderful person he was. Plus, the kid will remember this (and brag about it) for the rest of his life.

    Bravo, Jon Pertwee.

  • @TomatoeAssassin

He was kind of the Clayton Moore of Doctor Who. He didn't seem to mind the typecasting, and donned the Doctor wardrobe and assume character anytime he was asked. The total opposite of Tom Baker who kind of ran screaming away from the role.

  • Lucky little kid!!!!!!

  • Jon Pertwee just has to be the best Dr ever. And that kid, likely to be a young man by now - I would like to know what became of him. Looking at his reactions and the delight on his face, could this have happened to a more deserving kid? Who else would have sponsored a horse then, let alone now? Good on you David Petter - if you ever see this, let us know how you felt, and how you feel now. I think you must have moved a nation to genuine tears of happiness with this.

  • Well said, sir.

  • david tennant is the best better than the cardboard sets online at justdoctorwho-dot-com

  • Jon Pertwee is amazing as the Doctor.

  • What a blinding kid. HIs face when He sees the TARDIS is priceless. Hope the comment below that his Dalek got nicked is bollocks

  • this must have been the kid best moment in his life , john was a good man even till the end a real class act

  • Kudos to this kid for his composure. He's the equal measure of fanaticism and sensibility. I'd have been far worse: at that age, seeing Jon Pertwee would have rendered me in joyful tears and abject adoration. The Third Doctor would have been right to boot me in my stupid fanboy face.

  • "Docter-oo"

    ...

    Lol!

  • John Pertwee IS DR WHO

  • this is wot tv used to be;good entertainment!-John Peertwee was a lovely person and greatly missed.(rip)

  • Oh, how sweet is this? Gentleman to the end. And in character too!

  • aww, i know, it was great. the wee boy couldn't stop smiling! great stuff.

  • I would have wet myself! And anyone sitting close by!

  • top bloke pertwee!!

saw him put the the iluminations on in matlock many yeras ago

luckey kid ,wonder if hes still got the dalek hehe

  • How come this kid got to do all this cool sh^t?

  • and his dalek got stolen and sold on ebay..........

  • why the hell did this kid get so much? was he dieing? who else i bothered that the dalek voice is wrong...

  • Ehh, maybe he deserved it because he came across as such a nice, well-mannered and selfless kid? How many children do you know who would give up money to sponsor a horse? Who cares that it wasn't Roy Skelton doing the Dalek voice anyway? Don't be such a killjoy.

  • pertwee was an awesome doctor its a shame i wasn't born early enough to see him in doctor who better tennant of course

  • He was a terrific Doctor and I rate Jon Pertwee & David Tennant as the two best Doctors, that is why when David announced he was standing down as the Doctor, another Pertwee, his son Sean should have been handed the keys to the Tardis, to me he is the only one who could fill his father & David Tennant's shoes, he would also have been a popular choice with Dr. Who fans. I can't help but feel Matt Smith may struggle to win over fans, especially female ones if looks alone are anything to go on.

  • True, but remember when David Tennant first appeared - most people's reactions were along the lnes of "...what?" But, after the initial shock of having someone so different to Christopher Eccleston, he really grew on you. People are having a similar reaction now to Matt Smith... give him time, and let's see if he can surpass expectations.

  • Sean Pertwee is Jon's Grandson actually.

  • No you are incorrect Sean Pertwee is Jon Pertwee's son

  • @RichXbox360 no, he's not. He is Jon Pertwee's son.

  • He gets £5 a week and saved £370?!? That must have been a quiet 7 years.

  • Cilla was the true first lady of television. Her death greatly saddened me. RIP Cilla.

  • Cilla Black isn't dead yet, you are either lying about being greatly saddened, or were greatly saddened for no good reason.

  • Cilla's not dead it's JON that's dead

  • Has anyone told Cilla she's dead?

  • WTF?! When did Cilla die?

  • @RichXbox360 she is not dead

  • What would have happened if she'd rang him, and he wasn't in??

  • Jon Pertwee is a legend and certainly loved the show.

  • lucky guy!

  • think jon pertwee fancys cilla black, he cant take his eyes off her

  • LOL :)

  • Yes he was a great doctor and a wonderful man. He looked like he could step right into that tardis and resume the role. He will always have a special place in my heart. Thanks for all the memories Doctor.

  • i detest cilla

  • I want a dalek now

  • Heartwarming. Simply heartwarming =3 I wonder what young David is up to these days.

  • aww, lucky kid. i hope he had a great time with the dalek.

  • John sure got a suprise shortly after this show was taped!

  • Not sure who you mean by John. This video features Jon Pertwee. So, a perfectly shite gag has been further ruined by shite spelling. It must be so nice for you to look in a mirror, and how proud you must feel. Aw, poor you.

  • jon pertwee was and is one of my fav doctors. i never really got into the show since it left and came back again. the classic shit is the best!!! i think we all would agree. my favs have always been jon and of course tom baker!!! i didnt care for any of the doctors after peter davidson.

  • Pertwee was great! One of the best! He had something about him that I loved. He was more of a dramatic doctor and was a fantastic actor and funny in his own special way.

    R.I.P. You wonderful, lovely man!

  • @powerhousechipmunk23

    exactly.

  • That goes beyond cool. I wish I was David. Jon Pertwee is THE Doctor. Not to mention a great man. On the top ten of my list of people I wished I met.

  • your lucky gunnerpetters lol i wish i got to meet that legend when i was younger but couldn't go to what I see as a more deserving boy

  • The happiest kid in the world!

Jon Pertwee, what a wonderful man.

  • the best doctor no question

  • the best doctor who no question

  • Thanks for posting this! Very lovely.

  • Hi David, as you had the privilege of meeting the great man, I was wondering if you agree with me that Sean Pertwee and not Matt Smith should have replaced David Tennant in the role?

  • Well I must say I am very suprised suprised! :) to see this here. It was a great privilage to meet the great man! What a gentleman he was too! Has a wonderful time with him talking back stage for hours! A true great! I was gutted to hear of his death just weeks after I met him! I had been invited to his new stage show with VIP tickets and a full promotional pack. A true loss!

  • very much so...its a great clip.

  • I can see you were genuinely really chuffed to meet him (and the lovely Cilla too). He was a lovely man and a fine Doctor.

  • Are you that kid?

  • You are one lucky guy to meet The Bossman. I would have loved to have met Jon. but i was 4 when he died.

  • Jon Pertwee is the best!!!!

  • great thanks for the post itunes has dr who

  • Surprise, Surprise!

  • I would just like to apologise to David Petter, I went to school with him and never really believed him when he told me that Jon Pertwee gave him a Dalek. The sad thing is, last time I saw him he was trying to sell it!!!

  • Looks as though he succeeded, I saw a photo of it on a dalek builders web site saying it was in a collection.

  • A good friend of mine owns the Dalek now. It is well looked after and very loved. I wish I had the space to keep it...

  • That'll be my brother you're talking about there :)

  • Seriosly, I have been on that show in 1998 and my mom had to build 30 blocks in order in 2 minutes. We won lots of stuff.

  • that kid was very lucky to meet Jon Pertwee, he was my favourite Doctor too!.

  • yes he was a great doctor

  • Cilla Black hasn't changed a bit

  • I remember Jon, but my childhood Sofa-Moments belonged to Tom Baker, without a doubt

  • Such a brilliant clip, shows what a star Jon Pertwee really was.

  • he probably wouldn't have wanted his last television role any other way

  • he was my favourite doctor too

  • he looked pretty good,( but he died shortly after that ....life is fragile :(....he is my favorite doctor too

  • jon pertwee,best doctor ever,no doubt.

  • thanks for the dates re broadcast.

  • His very last television appearance was on Cilla's Surprise Surprise, broadcast on April 21st, 1996. He sadly passed away a month later on the 20th May 1996 at the age of 76. A true legend!

  • Jon was the best and will always be the best to me. Class, and style.

  • Out of all his roles, this was his last on TV. Really wonderful - I'm just beaming away here!

  • I AM...THE DOCTOR!!! Wow what a great guy Jon is. Docturoo is a scuurey programme especially with them Darleks!

  • Tomorrow is sadly the 12th Anniversary of Jon's Death , so im memory of him im going to be watching him in his first ever Doctor Who story , Spearhead from Space .

Cheers , Jason [ Doctor Who One ]

  • I was fortunate enough to meet Jon Pertwee at a couple of conventions, and see him perform a couple of cabaret shows where he sang and did comedy. He was a truly extraordinary entertainer.

  • Silly old cow keeps calling it "Docturroo"! Oh i can't stand her. Old Jon's a good 'un though :)

  • yes, thanks for that post. Superb Doctor-the best!! Lovely man and lucky kid.

  • thats fantastic. i met jon pertwee back in 93. what a wonderful man, he never stoped smiling. and tom was right because when he walked past he just glittered like a huge light bulb. what a star. r.i.p

  • Sean's Doctor could have re-generated into a younger-looking version of the third incarnation and I think he would have carried off playing his father's version of the Doctor very well. I still think it was a major mistake on new Producer Stephen Moffats's part to overlook Sean in favour of Matt Smith, especially as Sean wanted the part. We can only hope that Sean is cast as the twelfth Doctor which may be sooner rather than later if Matt Smith doesn't work out in the role as I fear he may not.

  • Wonder where little Daivid is today?

  • lucky bastard ! lol

  • I remember this. I loved Cilla's Suprise Suprise when it was on TV. I wish it was back on. BRING BACK CILLA AND HER SHOW BACK TO ITV1

  • Jon Pertwee always looked the same age, didn't he?

There's not much difference between him in 1974 and that clip there!

  • Jon Pertwee was my fav doc too. He comes across as a real gentleman.

  • best doctor ever, no doubt

  • Absolutely brilliant! Terrific show!!!!!!! If you've got the rest of the episode would please upload the OPENING and ENDING credits. Id be ever so grateful.

  • i only have that clip in total...sorry.

  • When was that taken dear? Very friendly Doctor too! Also liked how he arranged the kid look with him by the TARDIS door long enough before getting out. Well staged!

  • 1994 or 1995

  • Someone was right here; Jon was VERY well preserved. I wish he was still there, I can understand how it comes he's the fav of even smallest children in our days. Also, I like the fact that he seems to play and or enjoy everything he does! ( :) Also I liked the head news recently that his son Sean wanted to give it a try as the 11th... He looks like him but of course, who ever really can replace Pertwee)

  • That so so awesome!!! Put me to tears!!!!! What a LUCKY kid! thanks for the post!!!!

  • cheers.
