  • I've heard that those primers are extremely consistant if measured properly, but have the disadvantage of being highly corrosive. is this true?

  • @drewnickel Not sure about the first part. The second part about being corrosive is true and then some.

  • thank you very much ammosmith, for sharing this and contributing the society selflessly. You are like jesus christ, like P.A. Luty, like everyone with the will to make this world democratic!

  • ah, this is the best way to get rid of autocracy and californian bureaucratic mother fuckers that says: "oh, control guns to control crime!" My response to that is a big fuck you! a big fuck you to arnold schwarznigger and a big fuck you to george waste bush. And a big fuck you to pussylicking bill clinton!

  • i must say this is very dangerous .....when you load this hand made primer into a cartridge while doing the re loading process . you will be under your luck mercy ...if the primer ignited under the bullet reloading pressure, the cartridge gonna explode and you don't wanna be around ...just a heads up for safety ...great vid and excellent work :)

  • It's more simpler than that! I've tried using the compound from toy cap guns and works like a charm to fire. It will ignite 99% of the time.

  • you obviosly never used cocaine.. lol just kidding.. does anyone know how we can mass produce our own primers in case the government takess them aways.. ? great vid. thanks..

  • Where did that hair come from????hahaha. Another good video, you have given me random somethings to try for the last month with all of your videos. Needless to say my wife hates you.

  • I di this back in 2002 & 2005. I have loaded over 40 primers this way. Not even one actualy exploded. All I ever got was a fizzz. If you had one fire, please show it and tell how you accomplished this task.

  • i tried this however the dent in the back of the primer was still there but the bump inside wasnt

  • @thehammernator Did it work? It can sometimes take a few tries to get the process down right.

  • @ammosmith mine worked, 40S&W, but I had to pack a lot in, and fire it once before it set off. I guess to compact it better? :S

  • Great info! Thanks for the video. Subscribed

  • Some people are kinda silly. I think it's obvious you don't do this everyday. I appreciate the heads up about the lead and whatnot.

Speaking of which...I'm not going to do this everyday either...but it might come in handy sometime! Thanks!

  • could ddnp or potassium perchlorate work?

  • @cenotosa1 Haven't tried them. Might work as long as they are stable.

  • @ammosmith thanks

  • @cenotosa1

DDNP is better for blasting caps and all the match heads are is really red phosphorus and NaClO3 with some sulfer and maybe Antimony Trisulfide.

  • @sadeyedangel I read where ammonium tri iodide could be used. In my experience...this stuff is waaay too unstable. Lead styphanate seems to be the ticket...or fulminate of murcury.

  • @ammosmith

Lol, yeah that tri-iodide is nasty and touchy. The old primers were lead styphnate is what they use now isn't it? or Pb azide?

  • Just be careful handling that white phosphorous. It's far more poisonous than lead.

  • how do you take the primer out of the cartrige

  • I'm not knocking anything, very informative videos for sure. I'm just trying to bring out some points of attention. Thanks for the videos

  • I'm a caster, very familiar with the lead problems. primng compounds have some lead content in them, they are what can cause lead problems in indoor ranges, must have good ventalation. dealing with the residue in spent primers, I would wear a mask and wash hands good and often

  • Have to be very carefull, lead contamination from old primer compounds!!!!!

  • @trickykwoo2 Lead is a problem...lead by itself isn't a hazard but lead compounds are. Lead has to be dealt with care. My says I have been around lead so ling I could be recycled as a pencil.

  • Clever idea but only practical if you have a surplus of strike anywhere Lucifer 's. I would rather stockpile battery cup primers or large rifle primers.Matches are a commodity in hard times as well as primers..and these type matches are not all that cheap.

  • @craftymaggot It's a concept idea. Last resort type of thing.

  • This is basically a survival technique people. End of days kind of shit where everyone needs guns. I'm making a survival guide for something like that as a hobby, thats why I found this video.

  • I have tried this so many times. I have never had one pop yet. I do it the same way you do.

  • what about red tips matches?

  • i would love to work in shop with you just to learn these skills on your channel. i thought primers like these could only be made in a factory. freakin cool stuff

  • Just like i was thinking the other day, they can ban our guns and ammo, but they can never completely disarm us without lobotomizing us. :D

  • is it possible to reload ammuniton without the reloading tools? please tell me a need to know!

  • @Gt91jackie Only with some black powder cartridges. Paper patching is another method but not recommended for modern cartridges.

  • I'm gonna (try to) make a simple firearm in the vacation, but not the simple airpressure guns I used to make when I was a baby.

  • Great video, but you can just buy potassium perchlorate although restricted. Some fireworks people or pyrotechs could hook you up. I think you can only legally buy 1 pound a year? I wonder how many primers you could get with that.

  • @tdblues No restrictions that I ever had to deal with. I order my stuff through "American Pyro Supply". They deliver to your door UPS.

  • @tdblues It cost $5. per pound and you can buy as much as you want. There are no restrictions I have ever heard of except one. You may not buy and ship powdered metals on the same purchase order.

  • Very clever - Thanks for the info. Do you think berdan primers would be easier to make because the anvil is already in the case?

  • Yes but...getting them out in one piece is a real trick.

  • A bolt with a shank size of 8mm fits perfectly inside the neck of fired/unsized 7.62x54. Fill the case with water and place over Lee Classic decapping chamber, insert bolt in the neck then strike the bolt. The hydraulic pressure easily pops out the primer undamaged. Adding ammonia and detergent to water to clean and remove corrosive salts. Rinse and dry out the cases in the oven. I just deprimed three next to the kitchen sink in less than one minute. Toy gun caps for primer charge?

  • I have a Lee Pro 1000 and I'm new to reloading. The Instructions say to use only Winchester or CCI primers. I have some Federal primers. My question is, what do you feel as far as the Federal instead of the others?.

  • I have had no problems. Federal primers have softer cups.

  • Ok thanks. I was just a little nervous being new to the hobby LOL. You have some great! videos on the subject and have learned a lot!. Thanks again.

  • Thanks for taking the time to watch them! If you have questions you can always ask.

  • Ok Great. Thank you again. Will be starting with 40S&W to start and will hopefully move on to others.

    Regards.

  • Remember the toy gun roll caps?

Forster still makes the Tap-O-Cap to make black powder caps form aluminum cans - you fill the cap with the toy roll caps!

They would be cheeper and more effective than the strike-all matches, used in this way. About 5 bucks for 1000 cap rolls. It makes the priming corrosive as I think the strike all matches are also.

  • Thanks! I am working on that one too.

  • what do u think will happen if i do this with a rifle primers

  • If you do be careful. Work up a load and see if you get any unusual pressure indicators.

  • what politicians don,t realise is that registered users arn't commiting the crimes it unregistered users though it dose happen with registered useres not near as much as gangs and people who don't have respect for guns

  • The politicians don't realize their place. We are the people...we are this country. They have elevated themselves to royalty in their own minds.

  • you're obviously an expert but please don't tell me that's how you fill up the primers. is unbelievably easier to either fold the paper to a nice sharp end or roll a funnel from thin paper (standard printing paper). sorry to whine so much, but i've been doing a lot of firecrackers in the past and hate to see using such inefficient methods. :-) no insult intended, just giving tips.

  • Through your travels? You mean like finding a popular old Army manual on the internet? Great video nonetheless.

  • I can't show the dark arts I know on here...

  • Thanks for the new skills...I hope I never have to use them.

  • very, VERY nice info here, Thanks!!

  • Thanks for uploading this, man

  • Why don't you help vote these guys out of office? Join the freedom movement? Support the NRA/ILA? Why give up our freedoms for this nonsense? I don't get it

  • I am a NRA member...donate my herd earned money...and I hate politicians so much I am racist against politicians.

  • With a case with less empty volume, and more powder, the spark may reach the powder for better reliability I think. I'm trying a paste from those red 8 round caps now, the cap formula, while corrosive is a bit more volatile however, and surely corrosive.

  • I tried this method last weekend at the range, with one round. .357mag, loaded with 4.1gr of 231 under a 158gr LSWC bullet. The round did not fire reliably. I pulled the trigger on my GP-100 with a 6" barrel, and the primer touched off the powder much too slow. The round exited the barrel with a "Phoot!" and bounced off my sand berm. I could have thrown the round harder. I think the excess empty volume in the .357 case may have had something to do with it.

  • Not if I have anything to say about it! We'll be posting more videos on improvising components. We are researching smokeless powder...the manufacture of it to be exact.

  • There are several opinions and theories on this. The first is the Obama madness that has swept the gun community. The other is the government has threatened to pull contracts if they don't cut off civilian sales. Third, all agencies are training tactical teams and are using up tons of ammo. I hear the crisis my end in Sept. I fear it's only going to get worse.

  • maybe dig out shotgun primers,an rebuild sm.rifle primers with that

  • ive (heard) -hmtd works better,i dont really know

  • Great video! You are a genius. I have been talking to one of my buddies about manfacturing ammo. I know about casting bullets, reloading spent brass and making powder ( black powder) but was studieing how to make primers. This vid is a great help.

  • Thanks!

  • Great idea! It took me two weeks to find primers.

  • Adam Cash and Ronald Brown both published books with this method of recycling primers.

They also mention two other primer explosive to use instead of strike anywhere match tips, but this is probably your best bet.

Another recipe for primers that has been used is potassium chlorate and sulfur, however this is EXTREMELY life-limited and can be somewhat unsafe... well unsafer. And very corrosive.

  • only thing I have to add,is NEVER gather a large quantity in a pile and always single load them away from the source materials..or else you can chain fire explosion yourself

  • This reminds me of Pakistan during the early 80's, match heads for primers and film stock for propellant.

  • @monkeyboy4746 make a vid of this

  • hey, awesome video, one question, how do you take off the primers off the casing? can be done without any "reloading" equipement?

  • Yes! Use a long nail that is thin enough to pass through the flash hole.

  • would the powder from cap gun caps work for this because they are set off through percussion?

  • I haven't tried it yet but I think yes.

  • Good shit Ammo...

  • Not nearly enought power. The glue stick bullet was a concept that I wanted to test. I agree that now is not the time to waste primers.

  • as i sadi before I havnt tried it, but when I saw this before the person said that he had used denatured alcahol w/the wt tips to make a fine paiste, he then rubbed a thin layer of paiste in the preped primer and allowed it to dry. I may try it and ir it works I will shoot you an email or something.

  • IVe seen something like this before but I ve never tfied it. I think you might have better luck getting the dent out if you place the primer cup on a standard(reverse process) and tap directly on the outside of the primer cup against the standard(pin/punch etc)underneath it. Just a thought. Bullet molding going great, thanks.

  • Thanks for the video. Was kinda dark though.

  • well done...
