--Carl Sagan
... fools, madmen and snide, sarcastic fans who've WASTED the past 25 years psychotically obsessing over the TRIVIAL flaws of a movie that only wanted to promote world peace.

This noble movie's effort to promote nuclear abolition is FAR, repeat, FAR more important than whether some colossally SPOiLED fanboy was enraptured by a cinematic experience. Its message of PEACE is far more important than any penchant for being snide or turning one's nose up.
Whadya lookin at?Huh?LOL!First Mel Gibson now Superman is on a drunk rant. That explains why Qeust for Peace and Superman Returns did bad at the theatres!
The crystal he has in his hands is the same crystal that created the Fortress of Solitude, that trained him, that holds Jor-El's sprit, that restored his powers, that defeated Superman II villains, that can now heal him.
A fade out and in effect, would help the transition from sickened Clark to infected Superman at bar scene. Other than that your concept of merging the two films works!
this is a powerful scene by chris reeve when he runs off and flies amazing.
