  • ...higher volumes, we never made it to half max volume and it blew us up. It does A LOT for a combo amp, some people love Solid State or Tube amps, they are great amps too, but the Line 6 Spider IV (120 is what we played) amps gives you the most BANG for your buck.

  • @123italiano321 The amp hes playin is the Line 6 Spider III, the "new" one is the Spider IV, which im sure ur aware of. My soon to be 17yo son and I went just this weekend to tryout the spider iv. He plays the Big 4 type Thrash metal. Metallica, megadeth, slayer etc. The spider IV Killed it! It sounded great, and after a few min. We had the amp controls down. The presets on most are pretty close and u can tweak them. The amp sounded great clean, crunch,& hi gain. The sound stays clear even at

  • Hi, whats considered as one of the best (or the best) combo amp? a head is a bit useless for performing to 500-1000 people at max isnt it? i mainly play metal like metallica, slayer, iron maiden, black label society etc...

  • Man you rock!!!

  • You look like Phil Jackson...

Please cut those strings on the head stock...

  • yur videos are great, but you should sell one of tour guitars and buy a better camera!

  • Does it have any presets for Guns N Roses?

  • the line 6 spider III amp is sooooo good!! the spider iv amp is idk, pretty good, but it aint as good as the spider III i tryed on my mates 15 watt spider III and that sounded like a fucking beast!!! i might be buying the 120 watt?! cannot wait to try another line 6 out aha ')

  • You got a great sound buddy

  • Lousy camera mic, that being said- i can tell the volume is there when you need it, right?

  • That's master of puppets, not for whom the bell tolls, fucking retard.

  • @NorefusalsKills it's the patch name you douche.

  • ooh nice ibanez at the 2 min mark

  • great review. good guitar player doing the review for once aswell.

  • one more question Chuck.... What do you think of the Spyder Jam Amp????

  • @swrnc I have not checked that amp out but I hear it is a cool amp.

  • smooth operator--great playin buddy.

  • @swrnc Thank you.

  • whats a real heavy distortion pedal that can go on clean channel?

  • @SxLxIxPxKxNxOxT1 I didn't have luck with a distortion pedal in front of it...sounded awful that way.

  • finally! this is the first review for this amp that ive seen that isnt just some joke playing with one of the banks! thanks for showing us what this amp can actually do!

  • @harvickfan82479 You are welcome. Thanks for checking out the video.

  • Hi Chuck, me again. I was at my local line6 retailer and tried the guitar with an Ibanez Artist and I could never get near the sound you have here. Are they all presets or did you dial these tones in? If they are presets, can you please tell me the number so I can try again?

    Thanks!

  • @SomethinWild all stock presets with just slight treble adjustments (less). The video mic will change the character of these tones so your results will vary. I name them in the vid...don't know the numbers and returned the amp so I can't look them up.

  • How much does that amp cost ?

  • @ramiabuhamra1 seriously? did you watch the video? at the end he shows the price, 400 dollars. need glasses? lol

  • @neils68 hahaha i didnt watch the whole thing thats why lol

  • there is master of puppets settings on their and for whom the bell tolls he just named em wrong

  • OMG, I'm in love with that first guitar of yours, the paintjob it just incredible. What kind of instrument was that?

Btw thanks for the review, I think this amp would be just perfect for me.

  • @SomethinWild that is an epiphone music rising les paul. gibson and the edge from did a limited run to benefit hurricane katrina/new orleans musicians. my wife bought it for me as a valentines day present. It now is a metal monster with the addition of duncan blackouts and an emg mid booster. You can see it on youtube here: watch?v=HEc-3FZobcI

  • theres a for whom the bell tolls CLEAN setting on this ampx'D CAN YOU BELIEVE ITXD

    FAIL-.-

  • ...WTF that is not for whom the bell tolls that is master of puppets -.-

  • @nomad322100 I think you are allowed to play Master of Puppets with a patch called For Whom The Bell Tolls :D

  • Hi could someone tell me if you can get a stereo signal through the output for headphones/recording on this amp? I've tried all sorts of cables and can only get a crappy mono sound through headphones, even though the output says you can record from it and surely that would be a stereo sound you would record with? Hope i made some sense to someone and any advice would be very much appreciated.

  • can you hear it over drums? I need to find a good amp to have band practice with

  • if it's a 120 watt amp you will have no problems playing over drums. I have a 65 watt amp, and it plays well over drums. I'm planning to buy this 120 watt amp to play with a drummer.

  • I actually regret buying my line 6 120w. It just sounds so artificial and muddy...

For it's price (460 euros when i bought it) i would have bought a marshal or a peavey for that old school distortion.

I can't complain much, though, since i got a 100 euros discount on it :P

  • ive been doing reasearch on amps and i really liked line 6 spider iii 75w and iv 75w. i have tested both of them and both are great and i dont know which one to choose.which one would you reccomend.

i would use the amp for practicing and also for small gigs.

    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @eduardozpn If you plan on gigging with this amp stay away from it. If you expect anything more than a practice amp you will be dissapointed. i own one and past 5 the tone sounds like mushed tones together. however i liked how it sounded at low volumes and bought a line 6 spider valve hd100 mk2 and was blown away. sounds good at low volumes and even better at high volumes

  • can you please help me? i have a spider 3 150W. my amp will not play thru the speakers, but the headphones play just fine. what is going on? it worked just fine the last time i played it. but now i can only play thru the headphones...the only thing out of normal that has happened is my 17m old son was trying to plug the chord where its suppose to go, but if he broke something there it the headphones wouldnt work either? please please help.

  • @m333tt not sure. sounds like he broke something. I would take it to an electronics repair person.

  • awesome sounding one dude.

  • what kind of ibanez are you using ?? tjhanks you(model plese)

  • @WOODDYelcomisario S470DQXM. I'll have it up for sale on ebay in 8 days.

  • Sammy is the man!!!!!!

  • @Targaxel he is the man...now he's a fat little man. he LOVES to chow.

  • @99voltsdotcom What do you meant when you said the amp is a bit sterile?? i'd love to know :)

  • @alexisd3 Sounds like something that is trying to sound like an amp...it sounds slightly artificial. You can tell it's not a tube amp. About the only thing that can perfectly fake a tube amp so far is the axefx.

  • @99voltsdotcom Oh now I get it! :) .. do you think a peavey vypyr 60w tube amp will be a better choice than a spider 4 150w??

  • love the facial expressions lol

  • @marner94 yeah, i've got some crazy face stuff going on when i play.

  • @99voltsdotcom you do play pretty brutal though

  • Not "for Whom THe Bell Tolls", that is" Master of puppets"

  • @AlexanderRaccoon No, there's actually a Master of Puppets setting on the amp but he was using For Whom The Bell Tolls because he didn't notice. They have both on the amp.

  • how many times better is the jcm 800 than this?

  • @joshua0226 well thats subjective, but i would say it can't compare to a great sounding 800. but an 800 does not have onboard effects and sounds terrible clean, so both have their points.

  • Is this amp loud enough to play over drums without losing quality of sound and clarity?

  • @avengedsevenfold100 yes, it's pretty loud

  • i have a simple one that allows me to switch between four channels and that one was 30 bucks. You also have one with a wah pedal in it and that one is about 150 i believe

  • 2X4!!!!!!

  • Quite a nice sound really, especially for the price.

  • i own this amp,,he didnt do anything too it,,this is how it sounds,,its good amp for the money!!

  • i have this amp and i LOVE IT. i dont use any of the presets though, i made set up all my distorion and clean tones. :] if you set it up the way you want, its awesome

  • Wtf he sed for whom the bells toll and he played master of puppets

  • hes talking about the preset which is called for whom the bell tolls

  • oh..that does suck. how much do the footswitches cost?

  • like a couple hundred bucks i believe?

  • Blue Jean Blues is referring to ZZ Top..believe that was one of their songs

  • @giutar24 Unfortunately the pedals cost more than this amp.

  • This amp got a good sound, this guy put too much distorsion in all the presets, thats why it sounds weird.

  • i did not alter the distortions in the presets...this is how they come in the amp.

  • @cbettin77 What the hell are you talking about? There's never such a thing as TOO much distortion, and the amps presets come like that.

  • does this amp come with a footswitch? i feel in love with this amp...i'm getting it for my birthday.

  • you have to buy it separate, which sucks.

  • is this amp any good for playing in low tunings because my friend who plays in low tunings alot, his practically exploded, maybe because the low frequencies

  • i was not crazy about the low end.

  • Hey, your review is very good, but I'm with one doud.

Does it work fine for an acoustic guitar, more specifically, a Dean Tradition Exotica?

    Thanks a lot...

  • never tried with acoustic

  • is this a guitar with piezzo? 3:13

  • no, just standard pickups

  • sound like a nice clean acoustic guitar, i love that tone. does this amp come with a footswitch?

  • you can buy one separately but it is not included.

  • What about the Opeth, Messhugah and Killswitch Engage presets? Is there more presets from extreme bands?

    Thanks!

Your review's too good. I'm thinking to get one amp.

  • yes there are. you can find a list of the presets online.

  • @99voltsdotcom

    Don't you never test someone?

  • what present are you using at 3:10-3:30

  • nice shirt dude

  • After seeing this video I ordered the same amp and I think the factory presets totally suck.Theres like 3 good ones out of a sh*t-load of em.

  • If you found some good presets throw them my way Im lost with this damn thing..

  • thats why you make your own presets.

  • master of puppets not for whom the bell tolls

  • its the preset name.

  • its not for whom the bell tolls its master of puppets right

  • dude your name is 4eva metallica and you dont know even one of the more popular metallica songs

  • its the preset name on tha amp.

  • it has master of puppets, for whom the bell tolls, and enter sandman presets.

  • I would not spend any money on digital crap.... they will give up in no time.

  • its not really that digital, its just got some presents if you wanna explore different sounds

  • Hi all, I have owned a Spider III for a couple years. Its a cool amp. But it has some limitations. I keep reading that the Spider III dosent like to see pedals in front of it. Ive been wanting to pick up an M13 board but Im concerend that it may not work well for the same reasons the other single pedals dont work. Any experience out there? Comments would be great.

  • oh yea i got a metal zone mt-2 and its terrible, the only thing its good for are the presets

  • better as a practice amp. if you play live your better off with a tube amp. which is my current problem because when you blast the volume it sounds to digital and unclear

    still a great amp though

  • thats true! It does sound a bit tinny but there are other transistor amps which capture that authentic sound like the roland cube. Roland worked with boss -who are the bees knees when it comes to effects :)- to produce the cosm modelling which is mind-blowing!!

  • I have one too! almost 2 years... a good general purpose amp... but can be a bit sterile. The effects loop would have been nice.

Props on the Michael Lee Firkins playing at the end.... you should try and dig up some Marc Bonilla too... his last album came out in '92 or '93, but worth trying to track down...

  • nice playing....i can't wait til the Spider IV series gets to my store...definetely gunna get it....it has more presets, double the effects and tones, and has a new loop feature :)

  • I was already planning on getting a Line 6 Spider 3 150 Watt and you've just given me another reason showing me the distortions to want it more :)

  • comic book guy's bar t shirt?

  • 1:30 isn't ''For whom the bells toll".

    It is Master of puppets.

Good job on the playing tho.

  • thanks. its the preset name on the amp i was mentioning.

  • Oh, sorry mate :]

  • i just got a sider 3 120 watt and it makes a whineing noise when i turn it off.... dose yours do that / is it bad ??? plz reply

  • Mine shuts off just fine, no noise or whine, but it does make an annoying loud "pop" when I turn it on. The loud pop is common with the Spider III's.

  • im pretty sure its common on alot of amps

  • never had any noises. i only had it for a couple weeks and took it back so i dont have any long term use on it.

  • because your putting your guitar too close to the amp and your tilting it down

  • mine does it its not bad at least mine never had any problems

  • ya but the preset is for whom the bell tolls

  • Impressive! I have the amp, running with an Ibanez RG2EX2. But I'd love your guitar :D

  • hey what type of Ibanez is that i sounds really good!

  • S470 DQXM.

  • what is the height of this amplifier in cm?

  • 1:50 that looks .. rediguless.

  • I believe it's an Ibanez, and it's in the RG series...that's all I can say...i'm not that good at telling

  • i think grx20

  • what is the number two guitar u have in this vid??

  • That is a Ibanez 'S' series. Possibly a S470 becuase of the H-S-H configuration.

  • cbaldw876 is correct. ibanez S470 DQXM. I have removed the stock pu's and installed sd blackouts. you can hear them in th tc electronic vol swell vid.

  • Looks like a Carvin!

  • never thought about that. it does!

  • I'd like to own a Carvin but they r so dang expensive! My old music/youth minister had one custom made that booger was one sweet guitar too!

  • Stagg I-400, i might get one and this amp with it

  • is this amp loud enough to play bar gigs?

  • yes...it's pretty loud.

  • Hiya,

Can you hook up a 4x12 cab to this ??

    \m/

  • no speaker out on the back. i guess you could wire it yourself.

  • no speaker outs on the amp.

  • Finally!!!! someone my age that understands the heaver side of the guitar world.

    Thanks.

  • oh yeah. if you look enough you can find lot's of guys like us on here. i have several in my friends list. try sinasl1, samhillband, Peelick, mentoneman. All great guys & killer players.

  • Just a quick question are these amps good for like Rock 'N' Roll, not metal but like Beatles, Stones, Oasis, and mostly britpop or should i get anoher amp for the money more suited to that style of music?

And would this sound good in combination with a Hollow-body (specifically an Epiphone Sheraton II) I'm really going all out for the Noel Gallagher from Oasis sound from the nineties! =)

  • yes. you can get all around tones from it. make no mistake, it's not going to replace any high dollar amp, but for $400 it does a great job.

  • hey wen u turn it up real real loud can u understand it and can u please tell me the good and bad things about it im thinking about getting one but im not a 100 percent sure yet so if u would please do that then i would very much appericiate that...thank you

  • na get the new spider 4

Line 6 Spider IV 120 120W 2x10 Guitar Combo Amp . this is the next version of the amp you commented on

  • it can get very loud. the end of the video goes through the good and not so good points.

  • damn your fucking awesome for a 60year old guy

  • thanks...i guess. I'm younger than ALL the guys in metallica...I'm 43.

  • holy shit dude im sorry your almost as old as my father, hope my father was like you

  • One of the best reviews on here. Excellent. Keep them coming, many thanks.

  • thanks brother.

  • would you recommend this amp for like heavy metal playing, whilst having a decent range of effects?

  • sure.

  • musicians friend has it as a preorder for $399 for the 120 watt version. so they should be comparable to the III prices.

  • good amp, but thay ar coming out with the spider 4 now.

  • when will it come out and how much will it cost ?

  • dude you are waay too young to die old :D

    you are awesome!!!

  • thanks man. i look at all the incredible players on here and know i can't compare, so i just do my own little thing and hope people like it.

  • What are the song the final subtitles ?

  • i'm not sure what you mean?

  • did you try it with any additional pedals? probably not because it doesnt need it, but i tried playing my digitech rp80 through it and it just screamed its head off with feedback whilst on most effects (on the pedal)

  • i did and had the same results as you. it did not play well with pedals.

  • did you just use the input or the pod-style out?

  • input

  • even on the clean channel?

  • are u asking about the input? I plugged straight into the amp only.

  • ive got this amp. its nice, though itd be much better with a fbv pedal

  • would you say this amp is good for avenged sevenfold?

  • yes

  • sure.

  • no there is a setting on there called For Whom the bell tolls by metallica its set up for that song but he played master intro becuase he doesnt know i t i bet

  • correct...i'm not a big metallica fan and i didn't know any of their songs so i took about 5 minutes and learned a couple metallica riffs to demo the presets.

  • the reply was for raysera.
