this is a direct rip off from otis reddings dreams to remember and 45 years later its as if gravity is some great new profuction what goes around comes around at least a dozen times
@timmylexmark well that didnt make any sense... thats just what john plays and no, i dont read guitar magazine cuz I cant get it here in holland... if someone learns a song you should learn it the right way...
man i love this style of blues, i feel like it's how us bluesmen of today more accurately express our emotions just as the blues players of decades ago used their own moody sound. from Hooker to Vaughan to Mayer the evolution is awesomee
Aside from those little irksome points, though, GREAT lesson. You always explain new tunes and concepts so well, and your approach is super accessible. Keep them coming! (Especially the JM tunes!)
Gravity is all about the mellow feel, the GENTLY singing Strat tone...you're attacking those strings way too hard! The only time John really digs into the strings like that is in the end solo, when the song turns into more of an anthem.
And playing chords with his "thumb-bass" voicings isn't about looking more like him, or Jimi, or whoever - it's about eliminating that low 5th that you get from the bar chords, and achieving the crucial choke-hold tone!
@TheHighestEagle i was saying that bullshit 500 dollar mexican strats were the biggest joke ive ever heard, also exaggerated for effect. ironically you didn't get it because you may be too literal for that. you shouldnt assume all people that use the internet are stupid
@Xenohn That's kind of "same to you but more of it" I heard some 40 years ago, with my own words, no less. I never assume anyone is stupid, until I read the garbage they spew. But there is plenty on the internet. The whole point is how many people slam artists and musicians on YouTube, and most have trouble playing the radio. I slammed "floopcheesable" for his comment about Marty, someone who's doing his thing on YouTube. Why the hell you had to put your 2 cents in to me is still a question?
just a question/comment.. Isn't there a mistake at the beginning? Marty says G major bar chord and the screen shows the tabs 3-5-5-4-5-5-, it should be 3-5-5-4-3-3. If i see anything else that could be wrong i'll post again..
hi marty i like your lessons, you are really good, and i have a question about your dvd i´m from mexico so how can i buy them?? by credit card or something you could send them to mexico???
Every time i bend the string i go to high and when i go down i hit other strings. And tips on when to stop the bend and how to not hit strings when i go down
Try playing the intro the way John does and use your thumb and middle finger... Use your thumb for the G string and middle for the B. When bending the the B up a full step keep the G muted with the thumb. As for bending to high you need to use your ear and feel through that... with practice you will become more accurate. :^)
Would it still sound ok if I tried this on an acoustic guitar?

@enriquesalazar009 yeah, but G-Major is basic so it shows the more difficult next chord.

Thanks! You made light work for me learning this song tonight.
Seen some others on utube showing only dominant chords and knew that couldnt be right. Yours sounds right to my ears.
One alternate though,
try 6-x-5-7-6-x in place of the Bbmaj7
sounds more john mayerish
