See, the problem here is you're unhappy with people putting kids down who go back home in their 20s like you once did. And then you turn right around and make fun of people who Occupy Wallstreet or are still in school.
You are perpetuating the cycle of prejudice while wanting it not to pertain to you.
@HelloMelonbread I'm not intending on putting anyone down. I'm just saying that lots of kids who are still in school are in a kind of lala land where they think everything will run smoothly upon graduation. They aren't in the real world yet, so they are currently being spared the brunt of a bad job market for young grads. I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad thing to be in school. I'm just saying it definitely isn't real life. I was shocked when I graduated.
@HelloMelonbread We had an Occupy movement here in New Orleans and all I saw was a lot of weed and a lot of idle kids camping out in the balmy winter weather. Most of them didn't even have signs...
I want you to become a stripper ok, this job pays well and does not require a degree. Just listen to me I know you're pretty hot and could be even cuter without clothes ;D Go get my milk now ok and my salada!
why don't you join the US air force. look for something related to computers, logistics, administration intelligence or . you will get a good job there and since you have a college degree you will start with a higher rank. you will get make something like $20000 per year.
@TheGreatPakistani I will look into that. I have already looked into the Coast Guard. Still considering it. I'm also applying for graduate school. I also just got a job!!!!! So excited!!!
@dreamslides I know you're trolling or something, so I will overlook the stripper comments... I am working a part-time job as a clothing and textile designer.
Most jobs, even minimum wage jobs, require experience. Forget about having a degree and trying to get a job, you'll need roughly 2 years experience just for their "entry" level jobs. Companies hire older, experienced workers. It's pretty much the cost of labor that prevents us from getting a job (I'm 22, living with my parents, and almost have my BA). Either way, without prior experience all the regulation & taxes on business for hiring people really screwed our generation. Best of luck though!
Be strong, keep your head held high. If god has created this difficult situation, he must have also given you the strength to face it (you may net be aware of that strength in u). Let all of us in this situation provide solace encouragement and kind words to each other
@TheChromelover You're very sweet, and I appreciate the words of encouragement. I had a couple interviews last week, and I am hoping one of them pans out and results in employment!
Other than that, I've been walking my dog in the morning most days (except this week. I've been sick), and I comb job sites and mostly craigslist for postings. Unfortunately, most posts are scams, but I'm getting pretty good at figuring out which ones are scams before I send the first email! Also freelancing.
part 3 - newspaper ads and craiglist. Just pick up the yellow pages and try cold calling companies that you are interested in, try networking on linkedin, keep your eyes open for career fairs, trade shows. You can also float your resume in job placement services. Be in touch with the career services centre of your university (make your school do something for u). Be in touch with the alumni too. And if you have a good employment record, contact your old employer. This is all I can think of.
part 2- extended family etc (they might have leads that could land you in a job). Most importantly, create a routine - get up from your bed at 08:30, take a shower and dress up (even if you have nothing to do). Exercise regularly(this pumps in the feel-good hormones in your body and you feel less depressed). Take this an opportunity to connect with your family more. And spend a lot of time searching for jobs (job search itself is a full time job). Don't just spend time on (contd in part 3)
I know how you feel because I am in the same boat as you. I graduated in May from UT Austin with a Masters degree in Engineering and now.....I am working in a 8$/hr programming job...and in fact I am happy to have this job. And I am living with my mother too. Just don't care abt people looking down upon you. During your period of job search, just don't wallow in self pity, don't just sit at home just watching TV, playing Xbox etc. And don't shy away from your friends, (contd in part 2).

@groam6666 I'm beginning to notice this, too. Folks want designers for 7.50 an hour with 5+ years of experience. That's CRAZY!
