Btw, Singapore is a country that focuses alot on attracting foreign talent since our only resource is manpower and there seems to be a lack of it. So no doubt we will have many foreigners around as well, who may end up applying for citizenship. They are also Singaporeans then, so why can't they join the Singapore complaints choir? :)
Take it in good grace, there are many complaint choirs around after all. Like no one is perfect, no country is perfect as well. Singapore still has its merits and is still safer and cleaner than most countries.
Why are there so many foreigners in the choir and audience? Don't these people have any shame that we are laughing at ourselves with the angmohs? No pride. If you are not happy, go to the US then where unemployment and crime rates are high. Or go to Europe then with their soaring national debts. Stupid people.
Shashaeighteen : Only losers are complaining about S'pore. It's the same every where. Losers are losers, what's new? They can always leave if they don't like it here. These losers have not stayed or worked overseas before. Can't make it in life they start blaming and complaining. Anyway, whatta F are these pple singing? Can hardly comprehend what they r crowing about.
Initially I felt that this performance was wonderful. To my disappointment, I realised that later the National Anthem had been inappropriately used in the performance. It is appalling to see people in this video singing the "distorted version" of our national anthem.
Nobody needs to stay or live in Singapore. One can leave if you don't like it here. What! Stay with yr parents till 35!! You can buy a private apartment or rent! It is shameful to live off your parents or even livng with them. Go other countries and try it elsewhere just for the experience before complaining so much. Also be a model citizen for others to follow rather than complain and incite disharmony!

"Ooh" When I'm hungry at the food court, I see People 'chope' seats with their tissue paper To the aunty staying upstairs: Your laundry's dripping on my bed sheets Please don't squat on the toilet seats And don't clip your nails on MRT Stray cats get into noisy affairs At night my neighbor makes weird animal sounds People put on fake accents to sound posh And queue up 3 hours for donuts Will I ever live till eighty five to collect my CPF?
Singapore's national bird is the crane (the one with yellow steel girders) Real estate agents' leaflets clogging up my mailbox (en bloc, en bloc; en bloc, en bloc) Why can't we be buried when we die? No one wants to climb Bukit Timah with me "Ooh" There are not enough public holidays My neighbor sings KTV all night Wedding dinners never start on time My hair is always cut shorter than I want Channel 5 commercials are way too long Why do men turn bald?
isn't it ironic that in a city of chronic complainers we still have people complaining about complainers?
i think for people who don't have choral training it's a pretty good performance. don't understand why some people keep going on abt how the singing sucks. the point's not the singing anyway.
that said, would be nice if we didn't have to guess the words :)
The choir is there to provide some fun and inject some spirit into the city. The complaints are true to some, not true to others. Its just some complaints that can be done by anyone. Anyway its only a matter of do you enjoy it or do you not.
Actually, Alvin Tan made it clear before every performance that MDA gave him no trouble at all with the lyrics, and that it was the Police who imposed the restrictions on performance.
For some reason, the ST either missed that fact or deliberately failed to report it. Wonder why?
This was outlawed in Singapore because foreigners were in it.. so i'm shocked to see this on utube (second thought, why would that shock me!lol)....Looks like you had fun...NICE JOB!
You know, it's so ironic, cause all you people have been doing is whining about how lousy we are and how amazingly fantastic yourselves might be.
I'd like to see you people actually make a contribution to the country. Or hey, even not think about yourselves and how amazing you are for just one moment.
Unclear/blurred lyrics. If you want to complaint please come out with something clear and with acceptable reason where anyone can judge. If it is about singing I have to say that it is far below par. Honestly 'Rojak' resembles this.

if you really do put some sense in to what your singing its honestly stupid. just some stupid daily grouses that you can't deal with but you want to sing about. i'm really all for something "different" when i took nine minutes of my life to check out this video. what a disappointment to see a bunch of people whining.
and the random supposedly "political" statements are really pathetic.
Hmm. I don't see the Finnish/Budapest/Birmingham choirs complaining anything remotely political either. And mind you, their censorship laws are even more lenient than Singapore's. So what does that show you, really?
I think people ought to take this in the spirit of fun and stop trying to politicise it. If there were even ANY criticisms about the government, the entire performance would have been axed.
"That they might have wanted lyrics so as to better enjoy the clip.
Try not to make others seem as ignorant as you; they probably enjoyed the song, but needed the lyrics to enjoy it better."
Never be presumptuous about other's views when they say they do not like the song. My bone of contention is that they can't sing. I'm for free artistic expression but pushing the envelope is a no no. Gotta go.
You're for free artistic expression, yet you mock innovation and creativity in the form of this choir? Geez I never thought one could be this contradictory.
I said poor singing, not poor recording. They were singing on their own. No harmony & synchronisation. Fortunately, the recording was bad otherwise faults will be much magnified.
Granted they might not be the next Pavarottis, but I'd thought it was painfully obvious that the beauty of all this was in the lyrics.

I think the ability to organise the choir, write the lyrics and melody is commendable. It is creativity.
However, I feel a lot of the complaints are not unique to Spore. I live overseas (USA) and things happen that way too.
Probably the HDB flat, CPF part and the being "cold inside, hot outside" is really funny for me.
