anyone that knows about some great MIDI controllers for making music like deadmau5?=) the price does not matter that much, but something under 1300 dollar:)
@zipproductionz fl studio is bad for djing. itd be better to deck for ableton and apc40. EXTREMELY and i mean EXTREMELY powerful for djing. also, if you go with that, also get a behringer bcr2000, also very powerful. Deadmau5 also uses ableton live, because he says its the best djing live software, and you can also produce in it -- another plus.
Is there much latency when using this equipment? I really hate latency since my DJing style is more like sudden moves and nothing like slow motion. What equipment should I buy for my needs? Is traktor scratch (with NI audio 4 DJ or 8) controlled by some cheap cdj-player any better with latency? I am not a rich guy so the most important thing propably is the price.
Oh, and I really want to thank you for these DJ tutorial videos! They really make me want to try harder. Practise 'n Joy!
i've noticed that from 3:54 to 4:10, the knobs were being controlled by the 3 touch sensitive "faders", can't i do the same in my fl studio / cubase mixer that way?
I`m kind of new 2 this Dj thing here. I head my first Hercules Dj Control mp3 e2 , I give it back ..now I have a Behringer bcd 3000 that I think it's worst that the controller from Hercules.
now I'm looking 2 buy something & don't know which of this right here:
I think you can use mulitple midi with VDJ, but you'll have to customize to device definition and mapper files to fit the info coming off the different pieces of gear
Explanation: The program is doing everything your standard Pionner CDJs and DJMs are doing. But having one mouse makes it impossible to use the program, so you have a controller. Just like the one for your Xbox 360, except it controls the program, and usually maps out just like a CDJ, or any typical mixer/deck.
So this thing is basically a mixer accept obviosly its not...it can control everything a mixer does. am i right ? im trying to get my head around this midi shit.
the controller can be taught to control any aspect of the software. Traktor and VDJ have all mixer control built in. gain, volume, pan, crossfade, EQ, all in the GUI on screen. The scs3d and scs3m have touch sensitive areas that will correspond to those controls on screen. you touch the controller and move a control such as LOW EQ, you'll see the dial on screen change and the feedback lights on the 3d or 3m will move according also. can run with analouge mixer, too.
wrong, if you are using kit like this you need a USB mixer, instant sound and perfect sounding no need for an ASIO sound card (i have both and choose the USB everytime)
It seems like you would be able to get a little bit more of a precise feel if you used a midi controller that has knobs and faders on it. I don't know. I would think that the touch pads would be almost as annoying as trying to use a mouse touchpad on a laptop.
@JDCoolMan21 sure it does initially feel different. a bit like a new clutch on car, but honestly if you go and try one you will get a feel for it really quickly, and it also opens up new techniques and ways of doing things. i guess you just need to touch it to make your mind up
I have open mind. I have tried using PCdjing already from few years, even today. Even autobeatmatching is good feature for me, despite, that I'm experienced DJ and I'm very good in beatmatching. But I'm still experiencing lot of troubles with PCdjing. Latency is one of the problems. And on this video from Johnathan, I see latency not only with LEDs, but also I hear it in the sound.
I believe that the latency is more likely a problem of the specific touch-sensitive controller. I never experienced latency with my Reloop, I can try and create a video if you wish.
Depending on what display you use, you also have a small delay until you see any changes occur.
@nifelan it.'s just the settings that need adjusting in the software. The touch control on this is as accurate (if not more) than any other midi controllers.
most of the modern good controllers and sound cards form different manufacturers should be fine with latency these days. All digital products will always have it but at around 0.02-3ms you shouldn't hear it or notice it.
Yes, you do need quite a lot of power to use PC DJ software. Personally I don't see a difference between PC and MAC except for design and user interface. If you don't get along well wit PCs, get a MAC. If you want to do things your own way, get a PC.
I think it's not the best idea to use touch sensitive controllers in that way. It will never be as direct as using, for example, a "real" crossfade slider. Sometimes your motions won't be sensed at all, sometimes the controller might become "confused" and sense movement even slightly after you took your fingers off the touch sensor (that might have been why the crossfader was moving a little bit at 3:23).

Depending on how well the touch pad is manufactured, they do wear out on some devices, your fingers are the moving part that can wear it out.
Whats important hear is there is no stuff to snapoff if you gig with it!

@makkin16 you can you just have to map the midi. in other words tell the program what button you want to control what part of the program.

How is the response time? It seems like it lags behind your finger. Does it?
danxl5 2 years ago
all the midi devices have that, even though the package will say no delay
superbuny007 2 years ago
WRONG! Any delays between your action and hearing the change is down to latency in the PC sound card, not MIDI.
Domestic sound cards are not designed for pro use, and they tend to be slow to process sound.
MIDI on the other hand was designed from scratch to be used by musicians, who needed to hear the sound as soon as they played, with no delay.
Bottom line, if you're using kit like this, you need a low latency ASIO sound card.
groovindj 2 years ago
I have a low latency card build into my midi device (but you have to think
midi device => processor => soundcard =>boxes
against
mixer => active speakers)
superbuny007 2 years ago
With todays tech, 1ms latency is easily achievable. That's faster than the sound will take to get from the speakers to your ears.
groovindj 2 years ago
yeah, but I answered his question, because I don't think he owns a low latency asio soundcard xD
superbuny007 2 years ago
