1994. Williams was an inferior car. It is an uneducated and rather embarrassing misconception to assume that the Williams in 94 was the fastest car just because they had the best car in 1992 and 1993.
The car had a serious design flaw and despite having the Renault engine, was not as good a racing craft overall to the Benetton. Ask any journalist, racing expert worth their salt that covered the era and you'll get the same answer.
The fact Senna managed to get that dog of a car, (which by the way, he had lapped Team mate Damon Hill by half distance in during the Brazilian GP of that year) to three pole position demonstrates the unchallanged excellence in the way he raced.
People also ALWAYS forget that Senna's McLaren of 1993 had an inferior engine and car overall to Schumacher's Benetton in 1993, yet Senna thrashed Herr Schuey 5-1 in the victory stakes and blew him away in the wet at Donnington
The Williams did improve during 1994, of course, but certainly for the first three races, it was not as good as that Benetton overall.
p.s Ross Brawn was the driving force behind the Benetton in 1994. He is doing exactly the same with the cars that bare his name this year, which are currently the fastest on the grid. Think its impossible that the Benetton of 94 couldnt have been that good?? Think again.

Ok, lets start the tape: He raced in an unchallenged era+Had the best bulletproof car for 5 YEARS+Protected by ridiculous teammorders and had slave teammates+ Cheated shamefully on numerous occasions(Does Monaco 2006 ring a bell???) schuey outqualified piquet frequently as a rookie and he was 1 sec faster than brundle (quali ratio), in comparison hakkinen was 0,7 sec faster than brundle in 94. hakkinen was faster than mansell and watch senna vs hakkinen in 93 and schuey was a much better race driver than qualifier!
Well, if Schuey, in 1992, was faster than Brundle 1sec per race qualy (ratio), Senna, in 1988 and 1989, was faster than Prost 0.6sec per race qualy (ratio). Conclusion: both Senna or Prost were able to kick his ass on qualies as well.... and on races.... We can't just compare...... They should have raced against each other for much more time for a better rate...

Schumi comes in around 5 to 10 of all time according to most experts, including me. Senna Prost Fangio Clark were all clearly better. And probably Villeneuve Mansell Stewart Lauda were too. (Schui just did more races than any of them and FAR more often had the best car - so you should ignore his meaningless stats like all experts do.)
And who was responsible that he had such fast cars?? Schumi himself! He was not only a very good driver within the cockpit (perhaps a few were better) but he had a talent to develop a car for his needs that nobody had before, no Senna, no Prost, no Lauda and of course no Villeneuve. He is the greatest driver to have driven in the sport on F1 and if some1 does come along in the future and breaks the records Schumacher has ......titles, race wins, podiums, and pole positions they would certainly deserve to be called the new god of f1. I would also rate Barrichello as a great of f1 because of the number of race starts.

I don´t agree with you... Senna in donninton 93 in the rain, drove with traction controls while schumacher had not electronic aids. Senna overtook wendlinger, hill, and prost in 1 lap, but they were not special good pilots in the rain... well, when both had not electronic aids, schumacher beated Senna in barcelona 92 in the rain, and senna crashed trying to follow schumi. and schumi was the winner in the rainy spa 92, beating senna again.

Schumi 'survived' due to the skills he honed in on and improved on in every race to become the best ever, (foul mouthed people; just study the statistics) even on the back of others if you like, Senna Hill etc etc in a most dangerous sport and finally retired gracefully. MS should be regarded an inspired individual and the sport he left will never quite be same, but 2009 rules are doing a good job for the sport; it's entertaining..

It is totally your right to express your opinion about who you think is the greatest F1 driver. However it is very inconsiderate to refer to another great F1 drivers as unhappy drivers who died trying to be 'the man . Senna died because of a disastrous mechanical failure in the steering system, which if faced by Schumacher in similar situation he would have ended up with the same consequence. Peace

1994. Williams was an inferior car. It is an uneducated and rather embarrassing misconception to assume that the Williams in 94 was the fastest car just because they had the best car in 1992 and 1993.
The car had a serious design flaw and despite having the Renault engine, was not as good a racing craft overall to the Benetton. Ask any journalist, racing expert worth their salt that covered the era and you'll get the same answer.

The fact Senna managed to get that dog of a car, (which by the way, he had lapped Team mate Damon Hill by half distance in during the Brazilian GP of that year) to three pole position demonstrates the unchallanged excellence in the way he raced.
People also ALWAYS forget that Senna's McLaren of 1993 had an inferior engine and car overall to Schumacher's Benetton in 1993, yet Senna thrashed Herr Schuey 5-1 in the victory stakes and blew him away in the wet at Donnington

The Williams did improve during 1994, of course, but certainly for the first three races, it was not as good as that Benetton overall.
p.s Ross Brawn was the driving force behind the Benetton in 1994. He is doing exactly the same with the cars that bare his name this year, which are currently the fastest on the grid. Think its impossible that the Benetton of 94 couldnt have been that good?? Think again.

yes schumi had brawn, but senna and prost had williams and mclaren, the best teams by far in the 80s and 90s.
schumi won with formerly second class teams and he deserves credit for that!
schuey outqualified piquet frequently as a rookie and he was 1 sec faster than brundle (quali ratio), in comparison hakkinen was 0,7 sec faster than brundle in 94. hakkinen was faster than mansell and watch senna vs hakkinen in 93 and schuey was a much better race driver than qualifier!

Well, if Schuey, in 1992, was faster than Brundle 1sec per race qualy (ratio), Senna, in 1988 and 1989, was faster than Prost 0.6sec per race qualy (ratio). Conclusion: both Senna or Prost were able to kick his ass on qualies as well.... and on races.... We can't just compare...... They should have raced against each other for much more time for a better rate...

Now: there's no way Mika was faster than Mansell, his debut in McLaren beating Senna is remarkable, I agree, He was very fast... But on long terms, Mansell was the fastest.... Forget 1995 attempt by Mansell in McLaren because He sucked, OK, but go back from early 80's up to 1992, and you'll see....

Ayrton was supposed to be unbeatable, but He was a human being, like you or me, so He could win and loose, as in every other aspect of life. Schumi comes in around 5 to 10 of all time according to most experts, including me. Senna Prost Fangio Clark were all clearly better. And probably Villeneuve Mansell Stewart Lauda were too. (Schui just did more races than any of them and FAR more often had the best car - so you should ignore his meaningless stats like all experts do.)

He was not only a very good driver within the cockpit (perhaps a few were better) but he had a talent to develop a car for his needs that nobody had before, no Senna, no Prost, no Lauda and of course no Villeneuve. - Vehicle dynamics engineer at Porsche Weissach, responsible for kinematic simulations of the late RS Spyder and supervision Sascha Maassen and Timo Bernhard
- grew up and drove together with Timo Glock and Sebastian Vettel in karting and lower formula series
- several wins in FSAE...
But I'm only 27 with no clue of racing. My opinion doesn't count and i need to grow up

Lol, this comment is just one amongst thousands of statistic craved Schumacher fan that vent their frustration against the truth. Senna, Clark, Fangio, Moss, Prost, those are to the world the all time top 5 drivers, casted in stone. Forget it, Schumacher will never make it in that sacred realm period.

I admire your Curriculum Vitae DARTCG, but as far as I am concerned, it doesn't impress me too much. I know a little bit about dynamics. Enough dynamics to realise that Monaco-Rascasse incident is impossible to understand according to what Ferrari explained... Did He lost control at 1.6km/h? It's a joke. You know dynamics? So you understand, as I do, it's a shameful cheating.... You drive real formula cars. So you know Villeneuve Jerez 97 incident was another disgrace, or Hill 94 in Adelaide...

Before getting attacked, I tell you DARTCG that I fully rate Schuey as an exceptional driver! I'd put him in a All Time Top 5 in terms of skills, OK? Now, we can only judge what we can really see. And what we saw is this: He had average or unskilled teammates with nº2 status, He often had a good car with a totally professional team focused on him, and with Ross Brown planning his racecraft... Surely, in comparisson, easier than, for example, a Senna-Prost McLaren internal issue....

In a sport like motoracing, so many things can alter a results, but in a sport like tennis, you are the absolute master of your fate, can't blame your shoes, nor the weather, nor the racket, so in that sport numbers DO COUNT. So that is why in f1, Schumacher's numbers are just that numbers....

Nice to meet you DARTCG. I was reading some of your post, and I have to say that, according to my own point of view, the statement about "he had a talent to develop a car for his needs that nobody had before, no Senna, no Prost, no Lauda...". It's going too far, to say the least. In any case, you could say Schumacher was as hard working as Lauda, but not superior to him. We could agree (I doubt it) that Schuey could be equal to Prost as a technician, but not better, sorry....

So DARTCG, rating a driver involves much more than pure stats. We have to take into account the competitors, cars, teams, teammates, circuits, regulations, politics, etc.... Surely your opinion is valid and I totally respect it. But I guess that saying "He was responsible for having such fast cars because He was better than Senna, Prost or Lauda" as technicians, is a little bit far from we can really measure, we don't know. And we will never know....

- Senna's qualifying laps were the pinnacle of motorsport - the highest level of driving anybody has ever obtained - incomprehensibly fast. Senna was in another Universe on his quali laps, and there's never been anything in motorsport, or in fact any sport, that match Senna's superhuman qualifying laps - absolute PERFECTION.

Schumi's totals are meaningless
- it's like saying Mansell (31 wins) is better than Fangio (25 wins) and Clark (24 wins).
Or that Patrese (256 GP) was as good as Gilles Villeneuve (67 GP) as they both won 6.
It's utter bullshit to cite totals - ratios/strike rates are all that matter - and as such SCHUMI has ZERO records to his name - NONE - Fangio, Clark, Senna beat him.

You are dreaming - Schumi didn't demolish every record:
Championship ratio: Fangio beats him.
Win ratio: Fangio and Clark beat him
Pole ratio: Fangio, Clark and Senna all beat him.
In fact, Schumi doesn't claim a single record in ratios - merely totals, on account of doing more races than all but 1 of the 800 F1 drivers in history (almost as many as Fangio, Clark, Senna combined).

1. Senna 6 (in 10, = 60%)
2. Hill 5 (in 14, =36%)
3. Schuey 5 (in 15, =33%)
4. Prost 4 (in 13, =30%)
Senna nearly 100% better than Schumacher!

I think you need to chill, dont take it too seriously mate. At the end of the day its my personal opinion, and you have yours. You can throw all the stats you want, Schumacher had many records of his own, but unless you put Schumacher & Senna in the same car at both their prime we will never now who would have been the better.

The only doctors that I'm interested in are doctorates of mathemeatics and physics - pure rational logicians who think straight and true - able to cut through the juvenile, even infantile "logic" of Schumi fangirls relying on his meaningless stats as "proof" of his greatness. His stats mean sweet fuck all to all true experts who can see it was all due to the spoilt brat having privileges of car advantage and team-orders more often than any other driver in history, many times over!

All those years of people repeating like religious mantra "Shumi went to ferrari for a challenge"- well why didn't he do what his fellow German Vettel has just done - try to win at Minardi!
It just proves Schumacher was no different to any other driver - he went to ferrari because they were promising the most for the future.
Oh it was Rory Byrne the designer and Ross Brawn the technical director that revived Ferrari (just as they did at Benetton). In bot cars -Schui rode on their coat-tails!
