  • They used to play this at Celtic Park before every game.

  • I wish there were more like Luke Kelly. A free spirit, and if he wants a song to be sad, it'll be sad, if he wants it to be happy, then by God, it's gonna be happy. God save his soul.

  • Christmas day 2011...Belfast...what song do i choose to listen to first? has to be a dub song

  • seeing this makes me well up in tears! how many of these men are left. I know Luke and Ronnie are gone.

  • @Dreoilin Ciaran has passed, and many of the original members left in 05, the only original members left are McKenna and Sheahan.

  • Luke Kelly and Ronnie drew may have passed away but their voices will never be silenced

  • luke we miss you

  • It seems to me that as Luke was nearing the end, he tended to shift from one foot to another, rather than standing still as he usually did. Not sure why.

  • @Anirishmanatheart for any number of reasons really-he was diagnosed with a brain tumor around this time, so that could be it...or he could just be tapping his foot to keep tempo like he normally does...

  • great song makes me feel good and also brings a tear to my eye

  • There never was, nor ever will be, a band like this. Close, maybe but not quite there.

Your very welcome :) but I'm not a Sir....Miss or Mrs maybe :)

  • @kellyoneill

He was. This was not long before he died. This is what I got from Wikipedia: On his European tour in autumn 1983 he came off the stage in Traun, Austria and again in Mannheim, Germany. Shortly after he had to cancel the tour of southern Germany and after a short stay in hospital in Heidelberg he was flown back to Dublin. After another operation he spent Christmas with his family but was taken into hospital again in the New Year, where he died on 30 January 1984.

  • @kellyoneill ;)

  • erhm Luke must be the best singer during the the dubliners years!

  • Let's band together and fight this new style of music called rock! I'm a 17 year old American and I hate it! Learn to play Irish folk, teach it to your kids and grandkids! Nieces, nephews. Be proud of Ireland and all things Irish!

  • oo come on... dont fight rock. it might not be irish traditional music, its different and just as great. i know there is a lot of shit out there, but theres alway alot of great rock bands out there. but there are alot of rock bands that are influenced by this stuff, example: The Grateful Dead.

  • Where was this recorded at? and have The Dubliners ever do any work with Paul Brady?

  • Isn't it great that Luke Kelly has such a big fan club because we are able to keep his memory and performances alive through websites like this? I have to perform and teach many different styles of music in my work but I always come back to the Dubs because you can sing along. Their music really is the heart if you see what I mean. By the way I am not Irish but I think that Ireland has some of the most beautiful and haunting music of the world.

  • Amazing... music speaking to the heart. Hope he R.I.P.ssss

  • thanx for posting all this great music, this music comes from the heart. in am not irish nor european but i love the dubliners.

  • The Dubliners were never a one-man band. Luke Kelly, especially in the 1960s, had a voice as good as Placido Domingo's, but he didn't have the operatic training. So he used to blow away his vocal chords every night. I've got "A Drop of the Hard Stuff" and "More of the Hard Stuff", from the 60s, but I'm told that Kelly was much better live at that time.

To get to the point, Ronnie knew a star when he heard him, and was quite happy to sit back and strum his Spanish guitar.

  • Could anyone tell why Ronnie often is not featured one some of the Video's around this time?

  • RIP Ronnie you're singing up in Heaven with Luke now...God bless the both of you.

  • Was this done for an audience? If so, how could they not clap? Luke doesn't look very well in this.

  • Dont know about the audience? It looks like it was in the 80s, possibly 83? If it was 83, then Luke was'nt well of course. RIP Luke, you were the greatest.

  • Thanks Kellyoneill - Luke was awesome!

  • He still is.

  • LOVE THIS VIDEO!! I only wish Ciaron Bourke was too!

  • must have been recorded after 75 when Cirian left due to his declining health

  • great i saw the Luke Kelly Tribute band and they wer good but Luke Kelly was a man of many Talents, God rest him xxxx

  • Luke Kelly was the best man in the world, for ever ;(

  • does anyone have footage of the RTE ad which featured the dubliners advertisi9ng bass ale. At the end Ronnie Drew famously said "Ah Thats bass"

  • kelly oneill....you seem to have numerous dubliners videos...if you could please repost the dubliners and patsy watchorn singing the rare old times from their performance on vicar street...irishdaragh removed it...thank you

  • great to hear this vid again after irish daragh took it off his account

  • As always, Kelly, you surpass yourself and give us Luke lovers another gem to enjoy. Can I ask, Kelly? Where did you find this latest delight? As has been said, Luke sings his songs like he is singing them for the first time. So much enthusiasm and commitment to entertain. There will never, ever be another Luke Kelly. That voice, that handsome face, that gallusness and mischief, irreplaceable. Thanks so much, Kelly. You are a true fan. :o)

  • Top video as ever Kelly. The life and vigour Luke put into all his songs set him apart from all the rest and it comes through brilliantly here. Thanks for posting.

  • my pleasure kev!

  • Thanks kelly, another great one. I thought it was an empty pub at first? It looked like two seperate duos here didn't it. Luke & Barney sharing some private joke, and then John & Ronnie on the other side playing along.

Nice to see Barney grinning and singing along, mic or not.
