Had it for about a year and a half, upgraded to Windows 7

Runs really good, but the laptop does get pretty hot near the fan and palm placer on the left.

This was a really high tech laptop for the price a year ago, but now

i7 dominates for about the same price, there is alot of saving now in HP, Levano, and Toshiba.

Sadly, all HDX Model arent manufactered anymore

Thx to advanced technology, u can now fit i7 , 6GM ram, and all portable gcards for the same price

This is a nice pc but anyone serious in getting this pc should opt for the 1080p version. But what drive me to write this comment is this "Squeeze 4gb"? What's the big deal with it. I just bought this pc today. I customized it and bought it straight from the HP website. The problem with getting the 4gb models is that you have to run the 64bit version of Windows Vista. Instead, I kept the 32bit version and got the 3gb model.

The only thing I don't liek about this laptop its how heavy it is and the battery life sucks. I put the brightness on the lowest and it barely lasts up to 1 hour and a half. I don't know whats going on with my laptop but i bought it with a fault and I didnt know. I had to send it 3 times to the HP repair facility. I think it has a curse or something lol. First it was overheating from a lack of thermal paste, then the technicians wrecked my speakers and third the hard drive failed.

I got almost the same laptop except mine is the HP HDX 16 1056CA. Its a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 duo P8400, 4gb of ram, 320GB Hard Drive, DVD not Blu-ray :'( and comes with the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT. Overall the laptop is amazing. It could play crysis on high but it lags a little bit so I put it on medium. To tell you from now, WINDOWS HAS A BIG IMPACT ON THE SPEED OF TEH PORGRAMS YOU ARE USING. The thing that amazes me is the speakers. They are amazingly loud and clear and it has a mini subwoofer

I'm a laptop junkie :), currently I have an HP dv6000 and I'm planning on buying another laptop. I was thinking of a Macbook Pro; but mac sucks at gaming... I checked at the hp site and you can also get the NVIDIA GT 130M which is 1GB... or the NVIDIA GT 9600M which is 512MB. On the notebookcheck site it doesn't talk much about the nvidia 130M, is this card capable of playing demanding games?

acually mac book pros are good. just install windows on it using boot camp. just type it in spotlight and slip in the windows disc and go from there. although macs are expensive

i am not sure. but i know the 9000 seris is good. also the mac pro uses the 130. so im not sure. you should send and email to albert or something. you don't need anything else. boot camp comes built in to mac osx. just type it into youtube and do it with tutorial and they will do step by step. it is very easy to do. or you could go to the genius bar at an apple store

For fitting 4gb of RAM, it is gigantic. It can support up to 8gb of RAM actually. For regular, non-desktop replacement laptops, this is a huge laptop.

The resolution is 1920 x 1080, at least thats the ress that I use on my HDX :P! yee everything is small at that ress, but thats 1080dpi, everything is sharp as a pencil. You gotta get used to it though, my lecturers always have to wear their glasses and face the screen just a few cm away to see the txt XD!! I am used to the 1600x1200 ress so its no prob for me.

You should go with the 12-cell. MY HDX16 gets about 12hours on HIGH PERFORMANCE. And about 4 hours on power saver. Go with the 12 cell. You'll love this laptop

If you max out the specs on the 16 inch pretty much you get a 2.93 ghz processor 8 gb ddr2 ram same video card except its 512 instead of 1gb...where as the 18 inch only can get up to 4g ram ddr3 2.8ghz...after that its pretty much the same except with a 1 gig video card

You should check out HP's site. You can configure it with an Intel Core 2 Duo T9800 2.93 GHz, up to 8GB of DDR2 RAM, 512 MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, and a Blu-ray drive. I'm waiting for Windows 7 to buy my next laptop. If this is still available and nothing else catches my eye, this will be my next laptop. However, I'm hoping HP offers DDR3 memory as well as the up and coming T9900 or a quad core processor.

I will recommend checking and comparing prices for RAM first. I see 8GB of RAM is an extra $600 in the configuration. You may be able to upgrade for cheaper. For example if you get 6GB of RAM, you could find a 4GB card to replace the 2GB card for $300 and save $100. It's up to you to do your research first. The good news is, it might be cheaper once Windows 7 is released and they will likely offer DDR3 memory. RAM is easy to upgrade, so you might as well take some cost saving measures.

I think the reason why 8 GB of RAM is $600.00 ( which I also saw in configuration) Is because a regular 4 GB is the max the notebook can handle. The extra $ is for the motherboard upgrade so it would support further than 8 GB. That's what I'm thinking.
