It's hard to remember if this show is actually good, or if it was just good cause I was in high school and "OMG ANIME YAY!!" - Does the show hold up? I know I used to find it annoying that they shot lasers at each other, and just like in Star Wars they never hit each other. I think the story was also sort of confusing if I recall.

@VirtualSA I have a book called "Wrong About Japan" written by a guy who went to Japan with his son about their trip, Gundam is mentioned a LOT in it (his son was a huge Gundam fan), and they met the creator and everything, and IIRC, the reason for Gundam (not Wing, but the original) being created... was to sell mecha toys. >.>
Tomino made it as close to how he wanted it, though, although he had to battle with the toy companies to do it. GW, and the other series, are just spin offs, set in alternate timelines. I don't think Tomino even had anything to do with GW, but Gundam was and is such a huge industry in Japan, it makes financial sense to make more series.
I highly recommened the book, btw - it's fantastic. And there's a picture of Heero in it. xDD

I haven't read it in a while, but what I mainly remember is the author's son gets heavily into anime and manga, and Carey becomes interested in the references to Japanese culture within manga that wouldn't make sense to a foriegner, and they take a trip to Japan to interview manga creators like Tomino and the creator of Blood: The Last Vampire and Hayao Miyazaki in order to understand these references.
Sometimes a writer just adds these elements attempting to draw a wider gender neutral audience, giving everyone something to like. The line that defines Shojo & Shonen is blurred all the time.
Developing friendships between male characters is part of the definition of Shonen (Boy targeted action/adventures).
However if you happened to think the underlying story structure of government politics are homo that's a whole other argument.

No disrespect but that one particular generic shojo trait you mentioned of the cast being solely 5 boys is from what I remember the only shojo element throughout Gundam Wing.

shojo literally means girl in japanese. shojo is also a genre with common and generic traits aimed at female audiences. many elements found in gundam wing follow the genre conventions of shojo, such as the main cast of 5 feminine pretty boys and an underlying pseudo-homosexual theme running through the plot. but for christ sake man, your profile says youre the same age as me, learn to use google and wikipedia.

Well we have our own opinions.But I still think that Gundam Wing has better story line and better characters.Gundam seed will only excel in the graphics because it is more recent.But I think that Gundam seed has become a lot more commercial.The characters are not as unique as of the Gundam Wing and they tend to put more elements like love, friendship and wars in a way that shows no uniqueness that may set apart from other animes as compared to wing which has its unique treatment.Luv them both.
As far as a story line goes, the crown can only go to gundam wing. This was actually one of the first anime I ever watched and remember thinking, "wow...this is something" For gundam seed, yeah I agree its the king when it comes to overall graphics and also music :D
The fact is that both series are good to watch. If you want a more serious story then watch Gundam Wing. If you something with more of a romantic theme, then you should watch GS and GSD
I agree. On the contrary, I still think that HeeroXRelena pairing will out shine LacusXKira and CagaliXAthrun together. They have that extra sumting that set them apart from other pairings in anime world, I think the romance factor and the main characters in GS and GSD makes them commercial. Well, another flaw with GS and GSD is that the drama has been over the top and the characters are let say not as realistic as with GW. Sometimes it works, but sometimes not.
Agreed. I believe what you're refering to is the the type of relationship Heero and Relena have. It's like, they're doing there own thing, but at the same time they have this bond that can easily be seen in the later gundam eps and in Endless Waltz. Heero himself isn't the type of person to submit to his emotions, but at the same time, wont hesitate to act should someone threaten Relena.
I think the drama in GS was a bit much. Dont get me wrong I love the anime, but seeing kira cry got annoying
I watched the first ep. of GS and instantly knew that this branch of the Gundam series wasn't for me. Kira immediately played off as the sensitive young boy who is thrown into a war. I mean, drama is nice but to see the main protaganist cry all the time is a damn pity. All the other guys didn't seem all that serious either. Everyone wanted in on the drama game in GS and GSD. In GW, the mains were BAMFs and didn't let their emotions get in the way.
If SEED didn't get your fancy for that reason I suggest avoiding most of UC gundam. And pick up Gundam 00 and perhaps G Gundam. Consider a couple episodes of Gundam X, and avoid Turn A like the plague if you don't want a sensitive character as protagonist. I love Loran but if you don't like emotional protagonists you'll despise him.

Well we have our own opinions.But I still think that Gundam Wing has better story line and better characters.Gundam seed will only excel in the graphics because it is more recent.But I think that Gundam seed has become a lot more commercial.The characters are not as unique as of the Gundam Wing and they tend to put more elements like love, friendship and wars in a way that shows no uniqueness that may set apart from other animes as compared to wing which has its unique treatment.Luv them both.

As far as a story line goes, the crown can only go to gundam wing. This was actually one of the first anime I ever watched and remember thinking, "wow...this is something" For gundam seed, yeah I agree its the king when it comes to overall graphics and also music :D
The fact is that both series are good to watch. If you want a more serious story then watch Gundam Wing. If you something with more of a romantic theme, then you should watch GS and GSD

I agree. On the contrary, I still think that HeeroXRelena pairing will out shine LacusXKira and CagaliXAthrun together. They have that extra sumting that set them apart from other pairings in anime world, I think the romance factor and the main characters in GS and GSD makes them commercial. Well, another flaw with GS and GSD is that the drama has been over the top and the characters are let say not as realistic as with GW. Sometimes it works, but sometimes not.

Agreed. I believe what you're refering to is the the type of relationship Heero and Relena have. It's like, they're doing there own thing, but at the same time they have this bond that can easily be seen in the later gundam eps and in Endless Waltz. Heero himself isn't the type of person to submit to his emotions, but at the same time, wont hesitate to act should someone threaten Relena.
I think the drama in GS was a bit much. Dont get me wrong I love the anime, but seeing kira cry got annoying

I watched the first ep. of GS and instantly knew that this branch of the Gundam series wasn't for me. Kira immediately played off as the sensitive young boy who is thrown into a war. I mean, drama is nice but to see the main protaganist cry all the time is a damn pity. All the other guys didn't seem all that serious either. Everyone wanted in on the drama game in GS and GSD. In GW, the mains were BAMFs and didn't let their emotions get in the way.

If SEED didn't get your fancy for that reason I suggest avoiding most of UC gundam. And pick up Gundam 00 and perhaps G Gundam. Consider a couple episodes of Gundam X, and avoid Turn A like the plague if you don't want a sensitive character as protagonist. I love Loran but if you don't like emotional protagonists you'll despise him.

well i would like the first picture...and the pic. on 1:36 (time it showed)and the one with the gundams...if u would can u put togetor a picture of the gundams and the pilots into one picture i would like that one to...but if u cant then just send me a good picture with the gundams and a good one with the pilots and i can maybe put it togetor....i have some of the ones i found on google on my background but i want to have a diffrent one now...
