All dogs can be ratters. On the farm they are as good as the cats. Rats are a big problem. Many breeds were bred to be ratters. We had an infested house across from us, about 200yds. When the bank forclosed the rats tried to make our place. For a couple of weeks the dogs (8) would kill rats and leave them in a pile. A few were chew toys. I could watch the rats trying to make it to my place. The only source of easy food and water. They were amazing. Ms. Honey, a Assi Shep, was like Patton.
