Oh, and as far as the sickle cell argument goes. It is a mutation triggered by Malaria. So regions that have been heavily affected by the disease have a propensity towards having people with the sickle cell mutation. It's become less of a problem lately in Sicily though with improved sanitation, so the mutation is becoming more rare in Sicilians.

Sicily has been the crossroads of the world since ancient times, and because of that, people descendant from the island can have a wide variety of looks. Sure, the island was conquered by the Moors, but it was also conquered by the Greeks and Normans after that. Sicily was the original melting pot, and people from the island are varied because of it.
