@ThingsgoBOOMGlitz Excuse me, not to be rude, but just because it says a certain number on the page (like 152 for example which is the one that I have of this version) does NOT mean it is the "correct" or "incorrect" tempo. It is simply a suggested tempo. A choir director can take liberties with a piece. Like my choir director, for example. He took "Twa Tanbou" by Sydney Guillaume and sped it up 3-5x the original suggested speed. In my choirs, we often change the time signature in certain place
My highschool choir is singing this; we started at this tempo and are working towards going faster; the soprano 2's arent up to it at all, so it falls apart and there are only three of them singing;
If only they would sing it would sound so beautiful :)
My choir is singing this song for our concert and compitition.. Its so hard but if its going to sound like this when we get it all figured out it will be worth it. :)
I did this song in a festival last year with my small choir. (14 girls) I don't mind this arrangement, But I don't care for it slowed down. We had it sped up and Memorized, i beleive the girls here are reading off of music. Mad props to they're voices, beautiful. but i think i prefer the arrangement we did more
the way this is performed is beautiful. I think both faster and slower this song is just as beautiful. That's the thing about music - there is no right or wrong way to do it. Someone could sing this half this speed and stay in pitch and add emotion it would still sound as beautiful. when it's slower like this you feel each word individually and it makes you think more of how a firefly flies- slow and deliberate, flashing its light only when it needs to :]
lol were doing this in my chorus 4 school. were only doing 2 parts soprano and 2d soprano which is actually the alto part 4 us. were doing it in the dark with random flashlight flickers =D
you can sing if you want, but that means you dont understand this music at all. Do you know what is "ho" its not percussion. Nobody sing fast this song in Japan.
I'm singing in this video!! Our director for the song was from Japan and we worked our asses on on annunciation of the words. The song isn't supposed to go any faster than this. Many choirs take it faster but it's not really supposed to be that way. Speed does not equal musicality which is something you've got to learn. You're challenging the World Choir Olympic Champions. Get your facts straight before you go criticizing.
Our choir pretty much owns this. It is taken way to slow. That might be the "correct" way, but the correct way sounds like crap. If you were to speed it up, then you might sound good. Until then, you fail.
Actually. This is the correct tempo of the song, and In my opinion, it sounds much better this way. When you speed it up, The song loses it's beauty. Also, By saying that the correct way sounds like crap, you are completely making an insult to Japanese culture, and that is inappropriate. Maybe you should actually think before you say something, and respect something that is different.
Just stating the truth so hush. Saying i don't like the way that the composer made the tempo is an opinion, which many others share. And saying that I think the tempo makes it sound like crap, isn't even coming close to "disrespecting" Japanese culture. Thats like saying not liking kilts means not like all Scots and Irish, and Celtics, and what not.
@Xaiylia I honestly believed that this song was meant to be fast; if its done right its sounds like a strong echo, and i personally like it better that way.
I don't think there is a correct way to sing any song; more like different versions, some are creative and some follow it exactly how it was written.
Keep in mind its also a childrens song; children like to keep upbeat, so they would probably not be very content with a slower tempo.
@Xaiylia There will be a problem with the pitch is this song is slow. This part "ten ji ku ah ga ri SHE " The sops will go sharp and sop 2 might go flat.
@ThingsgoBOOMGlitz In my choirs, we often change the time signature in certain places (NOT the whole piece) and the tempo.

This is amazing, how the voices blend in perfect chords, in perfect dynamics, fading... I see NOTHING wrong with this song... executed perfectly.

Very clear sound: but far too slow. Th choir I was in went to state competition with this song.
Also, more crescendos would be lovely: which you may have had more, but due to the poor sound quality on the camera I didn't hear it.
We found that it was easier to go faster and stay on pitch as well.
Good job!
