  • No, I have read time again from MANY reliable sources that test audiences (the weirdos RHPS was aiming for) didn't "get" this version since they never saw these films. While the licensing TODAY would cost a fortune at THAT time classic movie clips didn't rate a premium like they do now, mind you, these were the days BEFORE the advent of "Turner Classic Movies" and "American Movie Classics" made classic films on home video popular. Back then only Nostalgia Home Video released old movies.

  • what movies did you use to make this video?

  • @janssencox93 "The Day The Earth Stood Still", "Flash Gordon", "The Invisible Man", "King Kong", "It Came From Outer Space", "Tarantula", "The Day of the Triffids", "Curse of the Demon" and "When Worlds Collide".

  • This is really awesome. As much as I love the lips, I would have loved for the movie to open like this :)

  • Fabulous!

  • I was just thinking what it would have sounded like if Freddie Mercury would have sang Rif Raf's part, or Franks. I think up goofy sh*t sometimes. Freddie probably would have had a ball doing it.

  • @kutzbill when the movie was in production Jagger was considered to replace Curry, that would have pissed those of us who had seen the original on stage with Curry. Freddie would have been great choice but Curry was and will always be Frank.

  • i think its really good but i still like the other on better

  • I keep suggesting that the theaters, most of which are now empty, could connect to the internet and become one big show that the audience could participate in, and become part of the recorded webcast. Hollywood remains clueless. Sleep on, Godzilla.

  • Theaters that all connect to the web for group participation movies about... about... have a nice...

  • The video paused to buffer at "caught in a celluloid jam" 0:42 XD

  • 9 people are in the back row. ;)

  • Check out the new high-definition version I uploaded.

  • @sacolton REALLY?

  • Great job.

  • This is why you can't trust test audiences. The version in the movie makes me sick to my stomach (extreme closeups of mouths make me nauseous; I don't know why). I like this one much better. :-)

  • thank the heavens they didnt go with this opening the movie-wouldnt be as epic

  • @mikeguy324 How the hell did you decide that this was a bad song?

  • I can't stop watching this! It's amazing!

  • Gorgeous, but where are the Conventionalists' credits?

  • This song is so bad But I love it so much it's like forbidden fruit! Thanks so much for sharing with all of us out here in the world! Thanks for the double picture show nicely done..Mike , CO U.S.A

  • Thats fucking awesome

  • this video is beautiful!!!

  • whats the name of the movie that monster at 2:30 is from?

  • @violesswar It's from the movie "Night of the Demon," 1957. Actually an excellent occult horror movie except for the cheesy Demon mask/makeup. Starred Dana Andrews.

  • @jjobie thanx! i saw this flick as a child and it scared the s**t outta me, lol. have to look it up and watch it again

  • I feel like such a nerd, I've seen like all of these. XD

  • I love this video...great job!

  • sacolton Rocks !!!

  • Awesome.

  • It's really sad how most audience's have no idea what movies these are and little appreciation for the genre. You have to be a big sci-fi nut and a RH fan to truly appreciate the effort that went into the lyrics.

  • @ReesiePuffs64

Not only the lyrics, the movie itself has lots of references to old horror/ sci-fi flicks.

  • @Assiman

    this is also true

  • @ReesiePuffs64 Well said ReesiePuffs 64. I grew up watching these old movies because of my grandmother and Aunt who lived through that age of hollywood and shared it with me. It was because of them that I truly appreciated the refrence made in the song and lyrics. Rocky Horror was a tribute to those old movies.

  • @norfolk316

thank you. and it really was. i admire the use of old set pieces in the movie as well such as the case that held rocky and the "hammer house."

  • @norfolk316 a tribute? more like a spoof and parody.

  • Who made this video? It's amazing.

  • @HollywoodLights1992 : Me. (and thanks)

  • @sacolton amazing video dude, for real

  • I'm sooo glad they picked Patricia Quinn's lips over this.

  • WOW! Excellent job! I love how the clips synch up with the lyrics perfectly! I love how the guy is reading "runes" when the song goes "dana andrews said prunes, gave him the RUNES!" Brilliant! I posted this link on the rocky horror page on facebook! I hope people come and watch this brilliant video!

  • The original cgaracter who sings this song in the stage version is the "Usherette", who is portrayed by the same actress who plays Magenta. The character has unofficial names such as Trixie and "Miss Strawberry Time".

Patricia Quinn being "Miss Strawberry Time".

  • No, the lips belong to Patricia Quinn.

  • ya, those are magentas lips, and whenever u do the live show, u zoom in on the chick whos playing magenta to get them singing...

  • not in the movie.

  • @sacolton no its little nell

  • no they're of patricia

  • his wrong?

    regardless, they're Patricia's

  • no its patricia quinn smart one

  • Actualy, it was a pre-production decision. O'Brien was slated to perform the song. I don't think he was actualy even aware of the desicion at first.

  • True. Jim Sherman liked how Richard sang the song and wanted him to do the vocals for the movie. Originally, Patricia Quinn was going to do both. When she found out Richard was selected to sing the song - she nearly quit the production.

  • @sacolton considering that Richard wrote the tunes and actually sang it better than Pat (saw original on stage) it was a good choice to have him sing it. Don't get me wrong for the stage she sang it perfectly but Richards version worked better for the opening.

  • @buhmabee I agree 110%. Richard has an amazing voice!

  • lips!

  • I like this opening. The one they used was good too. But I thinkk this one sort of brings u into that nostalgia of the times, and sets u up with certain emotions witha dramatic flare that the movie really had.

  • prefered the lips

  • There was a version of this you did where the letters flickered. Was that the "back row" edit? It apparently has been taken down. All your sequences are really good but I think that one was my most favorite.

  • Yeah, that was the "back row" version. There is another like it called "redux".

  • It would make the song make more sense. But why would we want it to make sense?!?

  • i prefer what they did on stage for the opening

  • Comment removed

  • wow this version is amazing, it's ashame it had to be scrapped

  • Simply Amazing.

  • Personaly.....I like the original idea of using the clips.

  • I agree this would have been negative, the lips are and have become more Iconic.

  • ah, this is amazing. <3

but just for the record, they decided to use the lips due to copy right issues. not because people had a negative reaction.

richard o'brien is a musical genius.

  • Yeah, no audience actually saw the sci-fi clip version, because it never existed outside of a written idea. Besides... early audiences hated the movie period, so I doubt they'd pick on the opening. :-P

  • the triffid mouth is icky Dx xD

  • I thought they couldn't do it because of copy right issues

  • There's something very cool about this version but I miss the lips. The lips are indelibly iconic to 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' that nothing could ever take its place. I can't hear 'Science Fiction Double Feature' without picturing Pat Quinn's lips mouthing the words!

  • I thought it was already determined that the lips belong to Pat Quinn. I thought it was a reference to the character she played in the stage show, the Usherette. The Usherette sings, "Science Fiction/Double Feature" in the Rocky Horror Show.

  • No, it was Patricia Quinns lips, but they dubbed it over with Richard O'Briens voice.

  • @MiZawhiteteeth101 I was shocked to read that it's Richard's voice. I never expected him to sound like that

  • No it was Patricia's lips, both Richard and Patricia confirmed it on the DVD commentary, it was the last scene filmed and Patricia was notified to mouth it. As toycoon mentioned she played the Usherette in the original stage production. Patricia mentioned on the dvd the lower half of her face was painted black.

If you watch the movie with her you can tell it's Patricia's lips by her teeth and shape of her lips.

  • Yeah, I saw her on an interview, and she was saying that they had a device to hold her head still. I guess it took a few takes before they got it right. Also, they had a few takes on who would sing it, at the end, Richard said, the heck with it, I'll do it, and that the one they used.

Odd stories that no one cares about, I think thats why I'm on the earth, lol.

  • Seconded. ;)

  • I agree, while the lips being missing, it does show people about who some of the people are that are mentioned in the song

  • I thought this video was fantastic! I bought a copy of Forbidden Planet as a result.

  • i don't know which version i like better

  • This was the re-done version, Patricia Quinn was pissed with the original because it was her lips but Brian's voice.

    peace out.

  • This is totally fan made!

  • I don't think so, cause if you look at sacolton's video, it has this video in the background

  • I prefer the movie version. It's more simpler and Patricia Quinn gots some nice lips!

  • oooh... gotta love the lips, but this is really cool!

  • This is a really awesome! and um...Dr. Frank-N-Furter is the awesome =D

  • i think this version is better to understand the singing (sry my english is not so good)

  • you spoke perfectly

  • not bad, the lips rock tho, only reason i kinda like this version is because when first seeing this movie i didnt know who everyone was he was singing in reference to.

  • wow i havent seen the movie for years and glad i saw this thanks for well the video its fucking awesome

  • The angels have the music but we have the Rock N Roll. Thanks Mr O Brien

  • MWIHIHIHIHIHIHIHIHI congrats, this rocks

  • OMG that is so cool! thanks for making it; thanks for even *POSTING* it!

  • I want to marry the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

  • why LOL!

  • Because Dr. Frank - N - Furter is teh sex!!!!

    o_0

  • ...?

  • go for it more power to ya

  • Love it! Very well done!

  • I Still love the bass in this.

  • as a bassist I have to agree, the little walk in the beginning is on point

  • So true, Isn't it funny how other musicians pick up that stuff. I worked sound for many years, and the bass can make or break the whole song.

  • this is THE CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is good but im glad they went with the lips.

  • haha love it

  • omg this is amazing!!

  • Like WOW, whered u even get this??? Im impressed tho I do like the lips better, but thats cuz I have a major crush on Pat Quinn :)

  • He made it. (Hence all the variations he posted.)

The original version, if it was even put together, is most likely lost. (Of course, we've been wrong before... they thought "Once In A While" was missing but it turned up in a vault somewhere.)

  • the reason they didnt use this opening was not due to a negative reaction is was due to the fact that they couldn't afford to use these clips

  • oh this version is really cool as well as the lips.

  • this is great. i like both versions equally

  • Geil!!! *****

  • i was a rocky horror fanatic but never knew this exsisted, would love to see more omitted scenes.

  • omitted scenes?

  • There's not much out there... only "Super Heroes" (which is in some versions of the movie anyway), "Once In A While", and the little bit of Frank sitting in front of the mirror before the Floor Show. All of those are on the 25th anniversary DVD.

  • It was very boring and im glad they changed it but it did help you understand alot of the song.

  • A pair of floating red lips is less boring? :)

  • quite lol

  • Those lips are iconic. Do not diss the lips.

  • Being iconic is no excuse for being uninteresting ;)

  • Never made to be interesting, just suits the wwhole theme of the movie, which is amazing. ;)

  • I think it's neat seeing all of the old movie clips. Since I'm so young, I can barely even understand a couple of the references.

  • Me to but i understand most of them because i've seen a lot of the movies. the best way is to see the originals- The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) (great movie) Flash Gordon (1936) The Invisible Man (1933) King Kong (1933) It Came From Outer Space (1953) Doctor X (1932) Forbidden Planet (1956) Tarantula (1955) The Day of the Triffids (1962) Night of the Demon/Curse of the Demon (1957) When Worlds Collide (1951)
  • ... very nice work for a great song...

  • I still like patricia quinn lip-synching though. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a cult classic. I even saw it live.

  • nice

    thanks

  • It's nice to see clips from the movies he sings about. Though I prefer the change they did.

  • Thanks to the clips, we know what they are singing about!

  • the one and only rock opera

  • um what about Tommy?! thats one too.

  • what i would do is to have the snack girl (trixie) from the play walk out on stage and say into a microphone "Are u ready for a science fiction double feature?!" then have the camera focus in on her lips and the background will turn black. Then have the lips sing this with the clips in side the mouth. i know it sounds stupid but just thought id throw it out there!!

  • ...To the late night (almost morning) Double feature (rocky horror) picture show, Fuck the back row!

  • Fuck the front row!

  • Nice!

  • Orgy in the middle!

  • The lips are great but this was pretty neat too ^^

  • I kinda like this idea

But I also like the lips....

...Yea I think the lips were better

  • See androids fighting, SUCKING AND FUCKING, Brad and Janet.

  • hehe, don't pay attention to the thumbs downs you are getting.

You can tell who the virgins are, there. Haha.

  • I know, and I really don't care. People who've experienced Rocky Horror know wht I'm talking about.

    "I got a thumbs down, I'm crushed!" ;)

  • Gave you a thumb up, so now it' s neutral again~ xD

    Audience Partici...pation rocks!

  • Nice variation, Cheers!

  • ditto i went last night and am happy to say that i am no longer a virgin, it was so epic.

  • MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA epic...

IM A FUCKING VIRGIN BECAUSE I LIVE IN PORTUGAL AAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

  • Why is sex illegal in Portugal?

  • lol, I meant virgin in the RHPS kind of way. I never saw it in a theatre because I live in Portugal :P

  • it's okay honey, thats why we have DVD stores, and online movie websites :-P I know a couple if you want (they have like every movie ever made and you can watch it for free online) yes, most are pirated, but so long as I use frostwire and limewire im watching illegal vids online.

    ______________________________________________

I WANT TO MARRY THE RHPS!!!!!!

  • I wanna see the Invisible Man now.

  • u should!!!!!!! its such a good late night movie that u watch with a fire in ur fireplace. it actully scared me alittle bit!

  • What they should have done was superimpose the lips singing on top of all these clips...

now THAT would have been bitchin

  • Have you seen "Science Fiction/Double Feature (Redux)" version? It's close.

  • I thought I was a fan (I have Shock Treatment on VHS!) but I never knew about this.

I guess I loved the lips so much, and in my mind thought that was so amazing that they had known they wanted to do it from the beginning. Or maybe I'm just talking out of my a**.

    Thanks for the upload!

  • Wow, it's beautiful!

  • Very good

  • i don't know anything about the "original idea". but i was gonna do the video according to the words of the song. including scenes of Flash Gordon actually in silver underwear and Doctor X builds a creature and androids fighting Brad and Janet. and Ann Francis stars in Forbidden Planet. but you did a good enough job. so, congratulations! (INVU)

  • Thanks, Tonycdrive. You'd be surprised after extensive research that there are no such clips of Buster Crabbe in silver underwear, Doctor X doesn't really "build" anything in the movie, and finally Brad and Janet don't really fight androids at all - they're aliens. Richard O'Brien just took some creative liberties with the lyrics to make it all rhyme in the song.

  • However, Anne Francis does, in fact, star in Forbidden Planet. Check out my other videos for "Science Fiction/Double Feature (Picture Show)" for the scenes you are describing. Again, thanks for the nice comment. :)

  • oh,don't i feel stupid

  • In the original play, the song was sung by Trixy the Popcorn Girl. I like this. It's Richard O'Brian original movie concept. You did a great job.

  • U didnt create this vid urself because u can see same video in the background of richard o'brien sings science fiction/double feature check it out

  • Check out who made that one too.

  • Though this was cool... the lips are more... iconic? maybe?

  • Fantastic job. Terrific. Orgasmic even.

  • whered you get this:?

  • I created it based on the original idea from the screenplay.

  • I believed that they ditched this version of it because it cost too much with the copyright licensing from using the clips from other films.

  • Well done, but LIPS are better! They are iconic, whereas this is just average.

  • wel if they hadnt used the lips it wouldnt of been iconic..this wouldve been

  • this is way cooler imo.

  • what's this song??

  • how did u find this song if u dont know the name? Science Fiction/Double Feature!

  • Lips are much more awesome. Part of it is beacuse it's Pat but it's also more interesting. ^^

  • This is really rather good. I like the flaming ball coming in just before the title card. Very dramatic.

  • I was reading today online that this is the way they wanted the movie to look like when it opened but those dam copyright laws got in the way..

  • I liked this but the lips were way better. Good job though!
