No, I have read time again from MANY reliable sources that test audiences (the weirdos RHPS was aiming for) didn't "get" this version since they never saw these films. While the licensing TODAY would cost a fortune at THAT time classic movie clips didn't rate a premium like they do now, mind you, these were the days BEFORE the advent of "Turner Classic Movies" and "American Movie Classics" made classic films on home video popular. Back then only Nostalgia Home Video released old movies.
@janssencox93 "The Day The Earth Stood Still", "Flash Gordon", "The Invisible Man", "King Kong", "It Came From Outer Space", "Tarantula", "The Day of the Triffids", "Curse of the Demon" and "When Worlds Collide".
I was just thinking what it would have sounded like if Freddie Mercury would have sang Rif Raf's part, or Franks. I think up goofy sh*t sometimes. Freddie probably would have had a ball doing it.
@kutzbill when the movie was in production Jagger was considered to replace Curry, that would have pissed those of us who had seen the original on stage with Curry. Freddie would have been great choice but Curry was and will always be Frank.
I keep suggesting that the theaters, most of which are now empty, could connect to the internet and become one big show that the audience could participate in, and become part of the recorded webcast. Hollywood remains clueless. Sleep on, Godzilla.
This is why you can't trust test audiences. The version in the movie makes me sick to my stomach (extreme closeups of mouths make me nauseous; I don't know why). I like this one much better. :-)
This song is so bad But I love it so much it's like forbidden fruit! Thanks so much for sharing with all of us out here in the world! Thanks for the double picture show nicely done..Mike , CO U.S.A
@violesswar It's from the movie "Night of the Demon," 1957. Actually an excellent occult horror movie except for the cheesy Demon mask/makeup. Starred Dana Andrews.
It's really sad how most audience's have no idea what movies these are and little appreciation for the genre. You have to be a big sci-fi nut and a RH fan to truly appreciate the effort that went into the lyrics.
@ReesiePuffs64 Well said ReesiePuffs 64. I grew up watching these old movies because of my grandmother and Aunt who lived through that age of hollywood and shared it with me. It was because of them that I truly appreciated the refrence made in the song and lyrics. Rocky Horror was a tribute to those old movies.
WOW! Excellent job! I love how the clips synch up with the lyrics perfectly! I love how the guy is reading "runes" when the song goes "dana andrews said prunes, gave him the RUNES!" Brilliant! I posted this link on the rocky horror page on facebook! I hope people come and watch this brilliant video!
The original cgaracter who sings this song in the stage version is the "Usherette", who is portrayed by the same actress who plays Magenta. The character has unofficial names such as Trixie and "Miss Strawberry Time".
True. Jim Sherman liked how Richard sang the song and wanted him to do the vocals for the movie. Originally, Patricia Quinn was going to do both. When she found out Richard was selected to sing the song - she nearly quit the production.
@sacolton considering that Richard wrote the tunes and actually sang it better than Pat (saw original on stage) it was a good choice to have him sing it. Don't get me wrong for the stage she sang it perfectly but Richards version worked better for the opening.
I like this opening. The one they used was good too. But I thinkk this one sort of brings u into that nostalgia of the times, and sets u up with certain emotions witha dramatic flare that the movie really had.
There was a version of this you did where the letters flickered. Was that the "back row" edit? It apparently has been taken down. All your sequences are really good but I think that one was my most favorite.
Yeah, no audience actually saw the sci-fi clip version, because it never existed outside of a written idea. Besides... early audiences hated the movie period, so I doubt they'd pick on the opening. :-P
There's something very cool about this version but I miss the lips. The lips are indelibly iconic to 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' that nothing could ever take its place. I can't hear 'Science Fiction Double Feature' without picturing Pat Quinn's lips mouthing the words!
I thought it was already determined that the lips belong to Pat Quinn. I thought it was a reference to the character she played in the stage show, the Usherette. The Usherette sings, "Science Fiction/Double Feature" in the Rocky Horror Show.
No it was Patricia's lips, both Richard and Patricia confirmed it on the DVD commentary, it was the last scene filmed and Patricia was notified to mouth it. As toycoon mentioned she played the Usherette in the original stage production. Patricia mentioned on the dvd the lower half of her face was painted black.
If you watch the movie with her you can tell it's Patricia's lips by her teeth and shape of her lips.
Yeah, I saw her on an interview, and she was saying that they had a device to hold her head still. I guess it took a few takes before they got it right. Also, they had a few takes on who would sing it, at the end, Richard said, the heck with it, I'll do it, and that the one they used.
Odd stories that no one cares about, I think thats why I'm on the earth, lol.
not bad, the lips rock tho, only reason i kinda like this version is because when first seeing this movie i didnt know who everyone was he was singing in reference to.
The original version, if it was even put together, is most likely lost. (Of course, we've been wrong before... they thought "Once In A While" was missing but it turned up in a vault somewhere.)
There's not much out there... only "Super Heroes" (which is in some versions of the movie anyway), "Once In A While", and the little bit of Frank sitting in front of the mirror before the Floor Show. All of those are on the 25th anniversary DVD.
Me to but i understand most of them because i've seen a lot of the movies. the best way is to see the originals- The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) (great movie) Flash Gordon (1936) The Invisible Man (1933) King Kong (1933) It Came From Outer Space (1953) Doctor X (1932) Forbidden Planet (1956) Tarantula (1955) The Day of the Triffids (1962) Night of the Demon/Curse of the Demon (1957) When Worlds Collide (1951)
what i would do is to have the snack girl (trixie) from the play walk out on stage and say into a microphone "Are u ready for a science fiction double feature?!" then have the camera focus in on her lips and the background will turn black. Then have the lips sing this with the clips in side the mouth. i know it sounds stupid but just thought id throw it out there!!
it's okay honey, thats why we have DVD stores, and online movie websites :-P I know a couple if you want (they have like every movie ever made and you can watch it for free online) yes, most are pirated, but so long as I use frostwire and limewire im watching illegal vids online.
