as the planet reaches its "carrying capacity"(goto google and type in those 2 words) there are 2 options:
1)the have's and powerful thrive... the have not's and weak despair and die off thus reducing the load on the planet
2)you share(ie. socialism) UNTIL human beings are able to teraform mars. the moon, the moons of jupiter, etc etc etc... THEN YOU CAN GO BACK TO COMPETITION AGAIN(ie. capitalism) because we are able to go beyond the "carrying capacity" of this planet now
