@gtamad3 Well when you lay a truck on it's side like the tractor trailer driver did you really aren't thinking about pulling out the parking brakes! But the wrecker driver should have looked! I'll bet you everyone in his company will from now on and any wrecker drivers who see this will also! I can see the sign over the office door now. Are the brakes set? Then check them!
@MrBigYum After you lay it on it's side, you may not be in any condition to set the brake. The tow truck guy should have set up some chocks so it wouldn't have rolled. If the tow truck driver works for someone else, this is probably the end of the line for him.
The tow truck driver made the mistake of not deactivating the truck brakes before pulling it back on its wheels. This would have prevented it from rolling back
Well DUHHHH! Didn't they realize that rig was also going up hill. Remind me not to call that fire department or tow truck drive if I crashed my rig. LMFAOOOOO
That could've been prevented so easily. All the tow truck operator had to do was get between the tractor and trailer then disconnect the trailer brakes.
serves them thieving tow truck drivers right.WAS a nice rig though, ill give you 15,000 cash for it right now but you have to help me tip it back over.
Funny thing about this video is that a block of wood or a large stone that could be found around the surrounding area in addition to the chocks this tow truck carried could have saved a $400,000 tow truck repair bill and of course the tow bill for recovering the tow truck. Common sense was not the order of the day.
Or they could've just made sure the brakes were set before they flipped the thing over...duh. nearly a half million for some sheet metal work huh? I'll be sure not to do business with the people you do business with.
No, a brand new tow truck such as the Peterbilt rolled over here will set an individual back by around $500,000 +/-. I'm sure it will be totalled as the repairs will be more than the vehicle is worth; especially if any of the towing hydraulics were damaged during the roll over.
First of all the tow truck in this video is far from a $500,000 rig, i don't care what you say. This truck was a victim of a simple light roll onto it's side, it wasn't driven off a cliff. Hell, it's not even a tri-axle for crying out loud, it's a simple used $100K (at most) Pete 379 run of the mill tow truck with Alcoas and two tone paint and nothing more. $500K is seriously laughable but hey, it's your story and you can tell it however you want to.
Are you illiterate? Can you read? More damage was done than just sheet metal. You must be deaf too as I clearly heard machinery grinding and straining when the tractor trailer rolled backwards. It would cost up to $500,000 to replace a brand new Peterbilt 379 tow truck with a brand new tow unit. Do you comprehend my words now?
The only thing I comprehend is you think you know alot more than you actually do. Do you comprehend that? Machinery grinding?? What's that 'machinery' called smart guy? I've been driving these since 1991. The only illiterate one in this conversation is you. Getting all tweaked over a youtube video... Wow. Do you need me to send you some price links to new Pete 379 tow trucks similar to this one? Nah, i'm done with you.
The winches were straining and grinding when the tractor trailer started to roll backwards. I know how much new trucks cost, anyone with a pc can find that. You cannot buy a new Peterbilt 379 as they are out of production, but send the price links on the new 389. Driving one of these is much different than purchasing one of these and this is something you do not comprehend. That was the whole point of the conversation.
Youtube won't let me put a link on here for some reason but I found an 09 389 near new, much nicer than the rig in this video for 285K. A far cry from half a mil but anyways, the owner of this truck is not obligated to replace his rig with a new one is what i'm saying so 'replacement cost' isn't necessarily the cost of a new truck, but it is to you and that's fine. And the straining and grinding is called "drag"... ever been fishing?
I was just merely stating that in some situations as this the insurance carrier may declare the unit a total loss and therefore a replacement will be necessary. I know that this unit was of small capacity and was most likely an older unit. What I was emphasizing was that the replacement could cost up to $500,000, with the selected specifications being the main factor in determining cost. If truck is salvagable then of course it will not be so expensive. May be more hidden damage.
Well either way, it's a real unfortunate accident for this driver... especially since they were probably all happy that they finally got the tractor trailer back onto the wheels and were probably getting ready to check it over and put it on the stinger and tow it outta there then this happened. I feel bad for the guy but he really should have dotted his i's and crossed his t's and it wouldn't have happened.

if they couldn't get in the tractor to pull the air brakes, they might have just pulled the red line from the trailer to hold it still.
