The Bees scared me more than anything in my life as a child. I stepped on a Bee when I was four, it stung the bottom of my foot. As a teenager I killed bees with baseball bats then threw the bodies into massive spider webs at the park and watched their organs be sucked dry. I just finished two textbooks on Bee biology as an adult. Bees are amazing creatures, without them the human race would not exist. I should become the batman of bees.
This was big stuff, like cutting edge when it was on television back in ''71. Personally, I thought the Rockman was pretty right on and hip, but, then, I might have been a little stoned!
Thanks for the additional facts. To be honest, I wasn't aware that Ringo did the film narration. I guess because I listened to the album almost daily but only saw the film once a year, my memory could only remember Harry's voice narrating. Thanks.
What the hell???!!! Who stuck Ringo's voice on this? What was wrong with Harry's own naration? Watching this I expect to see Thomas the Tank Engine come 'round the corner. I loved this when I was a kid, and still listened to the beautifully written/composed songs well into adulthood, but this particular clip is a travesty.
Why would that be? Have you heard or seen the original film or soundtrack LP with Harry's own narration? I had the LP at age 8 and the film would be a regular around Xmas time for around 4-5 years. Harry wrote the whole thing (for his kids) - story, music and lyrics. And did a great job in narrating. Just right for kids. Ringo, as per usual, sounds depressed and suicidal.
Well.....I do agree with you that the Nilsson album version is far superior to the film. However, this was scored and overseen by Nilsson himself.
He did the album version as an album for his RCA contract, but he really wanted it to be an animated film. In turn, and in time, Ringo Starr was actually the first narrator as the film was released a few months before the album. So that "the point" that both versions exist for our pleasure.
this still reminds me of the interconnectedness of our planetary ecology....every human tear ultimately flows to the primordial sea...and every living creature figuires profoundly in our ecosystem...even when we ignorantly can't see the "point" to every individuals existance...now think about our troubles. Whtiney all around
Only saw this once on TV - in black-in-white, no less. Had to be before 1974. Genius. Harry Nilsson is greatly missed. I have the CD of the sound-track - the YouTube videos are greatly appreciated.
it's all about the big picture, it isn't necessary to posses a point in order to have one, No matter how big or small things are we are all here right now at this point in time So enjoy your life ..... tx for posting

@madphilgreenballs My favorite dub was the one with Alan Thicke. He pulled of the nerdy father thing quite well.
