I dont know why but i dislike martial arts that involve weapons. I know that no martial art is better than the other and that it all comes down to the fighter and their aptitude but I still look down on them.
Hmm. I don't know. He's going through the motions and he looks he knows the movements well, but there just doesn't seem to be much power, energy or really anything dynamic behind his techniques. I'm interested in seeing the other competitors in this category as I simply don't see how this qualified as a gold medal routine.
I trained with Jamel in the 80's when he was still a teenager. He has alway been a gifted athlete and has trained in monkey since than time. Great job SiHing!!
I personally know Jamel. He is amazing at kungfu and also a professional dancer. His acrobatics are at a high level and he pulls them off with ease as well as being built like an oxe. He has very good form and can probably kill you upon contact, but won't.
As for his monkey staff, I've seen him do it a lot better. I think he was just being too cautious as to not mess up and lose a ton of points.. and hey it worked! He got gold.
His monkey form is good but the form itself lacks a lot of action. I don't know him personally but I personally know of him. He is a Shifu in Brooklyn and is handpicked to teach by Shi Guolin himself, a high ranking monk of the shaolin temple.
Well at least there's Americans that do traditional kung fu and not that mma bs that's popular now.

I don't much like the higher stances of shaolin style monkey, which (I think) this was. I much prefer Tai Shing Pek Kwar monkey, as it is more like a monkey than any other style in the world. The monkey form it a "trick" from if you will. The movement is to make the person you are fight think that you are just fucking around. Then when they are close you fuck them up! Thank you
