to: mapleavenue77 - You are so right, Gordie Lightfoot is the best singer/songwriter to come out of Canada; an amazing talent. Of course Johnny is also amazing. The best video I ever saw is Johnny's "Hurt".
Recommendation:
See or listen to Liam Clancy - R.I.P., singing Gordie's Early Morning Rain.
I have been asking for days for help. Since I got Windows 7 I CANNOT watch an entire video. I LOVE Youtube and miss it. What am I doing wrong??????????????
This was my introduction to Gordon, I was home & sick & I saw a little picture in the paper saying GL would be a guest on the Johnny Cash Show that night & I asked my sister and she said he was good you should watch him. I became a life long fan and saw him about fifteen times in the late 60's, 70's & early 80's before I somehow strayed away and re-discovered him about 3 years ago and the truth is he is the best, a singer/songwriter who has always delivered, he's never phoned it in. The best!!!
I loved the Johnny Cash Show back then. He always had great acts, including Rock artists like Clapton, who was rarely seen on television. But his show with Dylan was the best, "Girl From The North Country" duet Dylan/Cash. It's on YouTube, but check out each one because they vary in quality.
Live music on television?.....that would take real talent......none exists anymore as far as popular music is concerned,imho.....rather sad....thank god for you tube.....I can remember my youth and smile.....
Amazed to see this, really. I didn't know the Americans had ever heard of Gordon Lightfoot - and here he is singing a duet with an American legend Johnny Cash.
@tedmonday666 In a way we already HAD heard him, this song and "Early Morning Rain" had been recorded by Elvis and would be a fixture in his live shows and Gordon was already a fixture with the folk music crowd. Johnny loved that music, it had a lot of country in it.
This is awesome! Gordon Lightfoot and Johnny Cash are my Grandpa's two favorite artists of all time! He says Gordon Lightfoot is his favorite artist, and Johnny Cash is his second favorite artist. He really loves both artists alot!
@huntersingle quit it with that 'there's no talent in today's music' stuff.... sure there are a bunch of people making fortunes off of uninspired, unartistic bullshit, but there's talent out there. kids my age work hard to make new sounds, make music with soul and find the real art hidden behind the fog of the mainstream music industry. an industry that, by the way, is operated by those who were once the youth that listened to and were inspired by the music of artists such as lightfoot and cash.
@elliotrmr True. Anyone that says there's no good music today just doesn't know how to find it. Try a website called Epitonic dot com for starters. Lots of unique, ground breaking, avante garde NEW artists.
