@jazzflutist electronic tuners are not accurate, at all, esepcially with vibratoing tones like singers. real musicians use their ears. Furthermore, most of the notes that are off are fast notes, which a tuner could never pick up. open up your ears, the last few high notes are like, no where near being accurate.
@jazzflutist "European tuning" does not explain anything; the difference is too small to hear, and in any case it would be a relative shify in pitch, everything would be changd by the ame amount and nothing should sound out of tune
@skitzo429 : Just measured those notes again with my Korg tuner, and they're right on. I might also try recording them with Sound Forge and measuring each note individually for pitch. (You can get the frequencies from the resulting graph).
@skitzo429 :Korg DT-4 Tuner: (quoting from FLUTE list): First, it is fast and accurate. It is so fast, that it will often track vibrato. Second, it uses an electronic spinning display (this is the display I like best, though it also has two other display modes). This is really nice because I can set up the tuner and see very easily in my peripheral vision how my intonation is going while I'm playing.
She is simply a breath of fresh air in the midst of all the mad singing we need to do today if any singer wants an opera career! Exquisite! Marvelous! Wonderful singing!! Thank you for this video! - from a real singer)
She is fantastic. It is that simple. How can anyone talk about singers not singing strictly to the music after Callas and Pavarotti, awful show-offs and without Erna Sack's beauty!! Also, priot to c1950 the orchestras and conductors accompanied the singer, not the other way around as we have it today, singers being constantly drowned out by orchestras.
@lauderfrost Precisely. Unfortunately these "celebrities" stick in peoples' minds. Pavarotti turning up at Diana's funeral as the "big star" and his whole body language really put me off him big time.
@osinging To me Pavarotti was a good singer, but an arrogant jerk in real life. One day walking by the Academy of Music in Philadelphia I saw him and his entourage removing him grandly from the building to a limousine. Obese as he was and fatuous even more, he was annoying and ridiculous at the same time. From comments I have heard from others..that was his style.
I am alwasya huge fan of coloratura work.. Erna was one of a kind.. I hear her style in some of todays divas like Beverly Hoch and Natalie Dessay.. My all time favorite will always be Mado Robin
Sack is one of those super-high-note singers, but unlike certain others of this fach, she offers more than high notes. While not as good as Hempel's and Ivogun's German-style Rosinas, this performance is not bad in regard to characterization, and the singing contains agile and inventive ornamentation.

And what has happened to Rossini? The orchestra has to wait til she finish her stratospheric warbling. Where is the forward movement? Miss Sack has killed it to display her abilities. Circus Rossini.
Are you a soprano or a musicologist Steve...??! Can you sing those notes? Can you, can you? Eh? Eh? Sing them? Can you??! No. And, by the way, have you read up on your history? Am I mad or was Rossini in the gang of pandering to his singers' whims or not? Thus, they can sing whatever they like...if it means bums on seats then your problem is? or are we trying to exclude people from opera?
Brilliant. It was nice when opera was ruled by performers not "Come Scritto Conductors" or producers working out their mental diorders on unsupecting composeres or audiences.
Ivogun ornaments almost every other phrase. Bad for the musicologist but incredible as shear virtuosity. Love it.
her intonation was SO bad

@skitzo429 : No it wasn't. I'm listening to her with my electronic tuner active. She's right on the button - every time.

@skitzo429 : Good comment. Keep in mind mechanical deficiencies, European tuning systems and such. But, I can almost hear what you mean in places.

@jazzflutist Im not discussing this further with you, youre not a real musicians if you think an electronic tuner is the end all be all.

Such a lovely voice and I love this aria. Have you heard Roberta Peters sing this one? I like her rendition the best of all.
