  • Thank you sew much for answering my questions. I have learned so much from sewing with Nancy! I will take your advice and sew 3 strips together and then do column quilting. Thanks sew much for your help!!!

  • I'm sorry I did not ask my question clearly. I meant can I make a column quilt only using a jelly roll 2 1/2 " strips w batting and another strip on back and using the technique sew back and front together like you did creating the front and back at the same time making a jelly roll stripe quilt. Will your quick quilt technique work using all 2 1/2" strips for whole quilt or will it be too bulky where you sew seams together??? Thank you sew much. Robyn

  • @sewstyle I would not recommend sewing just one jelly roll strip to another using the Column Quilt method. These strips are only 2-1/2” wide and when you join one to another you will be creating a lot of bulk from the batting and backing in such a narrow area. I can understand why you might want to use jelly roll strips. If you have jelly roll strips that you’d like to use I would recommend first sewing, at a minimum, two strips together to create a wider starting column.

  • Can I use a jelly roll to make a column quilt ?

    Thank you

  • @sewstyle A jelly roll could be used for the 2-1/2" strips; however, you would need additional, coordinating yardage to cut the 5" strips. It will not work to sew 2 jelly roll strips together for the 5" strips because you would end up with only a 4-1/2" width.
