Tipu sultan was the only Indian to have defeated British two times...also Tipu is the first one to use the modern rockets for military use. After his defeat his rockets were reverse engineered and used by British. Then the brit pigs call those rockets as Congreve Rockets. This myth should be changed. This guy was a garden-variety warlord who funded his glorious rule and constant warfare through back-breaking taxes on the common man. Most of his generals were Persians and Afghans and Arabs, so it was an occupation just like British rule was. His father staged a coup against the Raja of Mysore who hired him so there again, the British paid him back with the same coin. At least the British brought development to Mysore which is why it is one of the most progressive states in India.

Tipu Sultan was indeed a brave and very sceintific person too in finding new methods of war. However, he did not reward his nobles adequately for their services which made them treacherous towards him. That was irrational and the only reason for his defeat. He should have shown his intelligence in other fields also.

He should have conducted some tests like they do today by sending French officers posing themselves as British to offer his nobles a heavy amount.

i think the successor was pooniya from what iv read who was part of the plot became governer or ruler of mysore serving under the british. iv googled and read ! 'seringapatam documents' it's well worth reading slightly misleading which is not surprising but very powerfull with the accounts on that fatefull day and the death of tipu i reccomend one reads this it's a very haunting account of that fatefull day.
