@bumblingblockhead , Not PeeWee Whitewing. It is Lloyd Green. If you want to hear the distinctive sound of PeeWee Whitewing, listen to the original version of 'A Six Pack to Go,' by Hank Thompson.
this song was written by Frank Marusa and Elson Smith for Kenny Price in 1970 and released in 1971. Frank is my father in law he also is a co writer of the Lil Mother Trucker cd's.
i could swear this is jerry reed singing but i have also never heard kenny price before so i will take your word for it. reguardless its a great song from a much better time in music...thanks for posting this and introducing me to a new artist
@55peterbilt93 jerry reed and kenny price do sound alike. ive never herd of kenny price before till now. if they both sang the same song i bet nobody could tell the diffrence.
I would have bet my left foot that Jerry Reed was involved somehow in this recording he was a very prominent guitar player at RCA Nashville at the time this was recorded. I have found nothing to support my theory so far though.
Kenny Price released this song in 1971. His nickname was the Round Mound of Sound due to his height and weight. Kenny Price lived in Florence, Boone County, KY on Miriam Drive for several years, right down the street from my aunt and uncle. My cousin went to school with his son at Boone County High School.
James Kenneth Price is buried in Forest Lawn Cemetary in Erlanger, KY.
This song was actually written about my Grandpaw who was Sherriff and Grandmaw was the Deputy Sherriff of Boone County but was written by Bobby Bobo and sung by Kenny.
haha....well the MAJOR of RABBIT HASH (in BOONE COUNTY) is actually a dog...yeppers. Theres also a movie that the Judds starred in featuring Rabbit Hash (Boone County)
Boone County isnt a small county anymore or even a homeboy town though it has a lot of homeboys in it, its the 9th fastest growing county
I remember this song as a youth. Thanks for the memories. I'm getting older, much older and the people who influenced my life are quickly leaving for a better place.
In Kenny's Midwestern Hayride days, I used to see him now and again as he lived across the road from my Uncle in Clermont County (OH) - a tiny little white frame house. I'm glad he eventually got some national attention - he had such a wonderful voice.
@dabidosan LOL....do what?? Boone County is one of the fastest growin counties (#9_) in the states. Sux. When i moved here, 18 was still 2 lil lanes...now its traffic jams forever startin at 3pm til 7pm. Theres another SHERIFF of BOONE County song that Jerry Reed sings....
What? KY-18 has two lanes,Hebron finally gets a McDonalds, and Florence has a Hooters. BIG WHOOP! I say at what cost?!! Shilletos, Swallens, Service Merchandise, Steinbergs, Children's Palace, Shoney's, Flick's IGA, Izzy's, McAlpins, Hills, Little Caesars, Roy Rogers, Rax...gone. ALL GONE!
Although.........the new Chick-Fil-A just opened on Houston rd., so I guess things are really looking good.
I'm not sure of any Sheriff Song that Jerry Reed sings. He menions one in "when Ur Hot, Ur hot"
Everone said I was crazy. I remember this song from when I was a little kid and all my family said they did not know what I was talking about. I have been looking for this song for 20 years.
We were happy to see this video. Kenny Price recorded it, but Elson Smith wrote it. We were very lucky to know Elson. He was the owner ot The Bluegrass Shop in St. Pete Florida, which I took over after Elson's passing. Everyday someone would mention how much Elson was missed. This song we treasure.
i was about 19 and sneaking into clubs in cincinnati, one was a small club called old hickory with a 3 piece band, one player with a bass fiddle about the same size as him. i heard kenny price on radio a couple of years later.then one night i watched hee haw and saw this same bass player i had seen in the old hickory in cincinnati
I grew up watching him on HEE-HAW. He sometimes shown up dressed as a cop threatening to arrest people for telling corny jokes...but his long running skit was as "Pa" with Linda Thompson where they'd typically discuss the seldom scene character, Billy Bob.
This is a very "billowy" video. =p

The funny part about this song is that Boone Co., Ky. is one place you had better not be speeding in!
