Feminists for Life was actually far more left-wing than Sarah Palin or the SBA List. The reason they opposed legal abortion was because they felt it violated the progressive values of peace, tolerance and equality.
@angeltears87 scientifically a new organism is created upon conception in the human species. A new human organism is created with 46 chromosomes. Please explain scientifically how a human fetus isnt a human being?
@angeltears87 a human being is a human life, it wouldn't be "a being" it it wasn't alive or in existence. a fetus is a developmental stage in a living (implying life) human organism. So how is a living and developing human fetus not a human life?
For example a brain dead comatose person laying in hospital, you can call him/her a human being, but it is no longer useful to speak of him/her as a human life.
@angeltears87 it takes time for a human to develop, the process isnt instant, the organs need time to grow including the brain. the thing is if you kill that developing human at any stage you are robbing it of its right to exist.
The simple scientific truth is that at conception a new, unique human organism is created, it is alive, it is growing and it is a human. If you end its life at any stage you are killing a human being.
@angeltears87 when my mother was pregnant with me her doctor believed there might be a problem with me and that she should consider abortion, she refused and i was born and im fine (well i think so :) ) if she would have aborted me i would be robbed of my right to live, to experience food, music, art, love, sadness, joy, etc.
If you kill a developing human at any stage of development you are robbing him/her of their right to simply exist.
Yes the process isn't instant. So you have to decide at what point this growing thing constitutes a human life. That certainly isn't any time within the first trimester. Also sorry, your emotional pleas are irrelevant to what is actually being discussed.
@angeltears87 1. it is scientifically proven that a new human life begins at conception. It has its own DNA, 46 Chromosomes, and is developing and growing, it is simple logic and has been known since the beginning of human history that when a woman gets pregnant a new human baby is developing inside of her.
2. emotional pleas? dont be silly. I am simply showing how the abortion issue effects people on a very real and humanistic level and how no one has the right to take away someone's life.
@angeltears87 "any sense that matters"? who is to say what matters? that would require placing a value on life which would involve some ethical or moral compass. What matters to one doesnt matter to the other. The fact is a new, unique human life is created at conception, if you terminate it you kill a human life.
@angeltears87 just because you can carry a developing human life does not mean you have the authority to say that it matters or not. the objective scientific fact is that a newly developing human person is growing in the uterus. . If you kill that developing child you kill a human being. if your mother killed you at 1 week of development you wouldnt exist today, you would be robbed of your very existence. No one has the right to take what is not theres....in this case another persons life.
No sorry there is no objective scientific fact that states you are killing a human being. Sure you are destroying something that is technically alive and will be a human being one day. The central point of the argument is when does it become a valid life? When it is an egg? When it is born? Somewhere in between?
If my mother aborted me at one week (something that is unheard of) I never would have existed and who cares? There wouldn't have been a "me" to be upset.
@angeltears87 pride is deadly. this is always been common sense....a woman is pregnant and automatically knows in 9 months she will have a baby (unless there are complications) . woman who are pregnant instinctively hold and rub their bellies and emotionally already develop a bond with their unborn child. you are trying to change something that is so clear and has always been understood into something abstract for purposes of convenience.
@angeltears87 let me ask you this....if a developing human embryo or fetus isnt a human being and abortion is woman's right and there is nothing wrong with it then would it be ok if every woman on earth for the next 300 years, when they got pregnant had an abortion?
That is impossible. Humanity would die out in about 100 years probably less.
If you want to talk about that possibility well...I don't really see the relevance because it wouldn't happen and the potential problems with it have nothing to do with abortion but more to do with the economy and an aging population.
@angeltears87 Also you tred dangerous ground when you say a human being with low consciousness is "not a human life in any meaningful way". What about a retarded person, senile elderly person, or someone who has mental illness...are their lives not meaningful?
It is logic that a developing "low level consciousness" human fetus will develop and become a "high level consciousness" human fetus, human baby, human adult. if you kill that person at any stage you are robbing him/her of their life.

@MrAbolitionist
No they opposed it because they were middle class fucks with no use for abortion, so they would seek to deny it to those who do need it.

It lacks in significant consciousness.

Human life scientifically does begin at conception. However science defines a brain dead person hooked up to life support as alive.
The argument has to be about what constitutes human life in any sense that matters.
A fetus with very low level (at times zero) consciousness is not a human life in any meaningful way.

@carthage397
I am to say what matters, if it is something in my body.
Everyone places a value on life. Do you eat meat? Is it ok to kill animals to eat them? Why?
Because you are think your life is more valuable then theirs.
"f you terminate it you kill a human life"
Not in anyway that matters.

So what if there is an emotional bond?
Also your continuous use of the word "child" is incorrect it is actually a fetus.
How am I turning it into an abstract subject?
