Actually the NAACP was set up in 1909 at a time in America when black people had no basic rights whatsoever. The majority were barred from voting, had no legal rights and were bullied and victimised on a daily basis and so the organisation's goal was to stop this from happening. ADVANCEMENT was the only way forward as black people as a race couldn't sink any lower,their status in society was viewed as subhuman and so ADVANCEMENT is the right word,espcially when other races clearly had advantages
