I really don't agree with that that is usually only the case with pro ropers that are really good at reaching most of the time it takes a second or two to get to the hip an get in good position

A higher numbered header wants a steer to actually come to him so is horse an brake straight and with less rope out of his hand when he ropes the steer. A rodeo run isnt ganna be hlaf way down the pen when ever the hearder ropes him; it would be no more then 15 or 20 feet after the berrier or shorter.
