  • You always help me when im stuck thanks! but as for ukes i like the Mahalo Suprano Ukulele i dont know why, Thanks for the video.

  • I strum down with my nail of my index finger but strum up with the nail of my thumb? Is that correct??

  • everytime i strum my finger hurts. i can do it but damn i got a scab now

  • Thanks! Really helped!

  • THANK YOU!!!!!! Now I will go try to play amazing horse on my uke!

  • it looks really awkward because your HUGE and the ukulele is tiny :P

  • um, genius? first thirty seconds made me sound a million times better already XD

  • Is it incorrect to use your thumb to strum?

  • @muppetspuppets I use my thumb but i feel as it is a disadvantage so i'm not sure either lol.

  • Thank you so much! It was sooo helpful! <3 Seriously, many thanks

  • .....im gunna get mind blowing this strum down if its the 25th to the last thing I do....

    I got a list yall

  • am i the only one that literally can't strum a ukulele?

my hands just feel so awkward trying ugh vdkllsdfkjbngf

  • @kt76943 you arent the only one :/

  • @kt76943 Hey man, I've got the same thing..

Thinking of getting myself a pick.

  • 0:48 take the uke away using IMAGINATION!!! ;P

  • I just use a pick all the time because I can't for the life of me figure out how to make a good sound with just my fingers.

  • this was so helpful thankyou!

  • when I strum, I use my thumb. It sounds fine, but I'm just making sure if thats alright!

  • Thanks! I really needed to know how to strum! :) Thanks so much.

  • This video helped me out incredibly. Although it was very simple instruction, you helped fix my bad habits! Thank you!

  • If you're finger starts hurting you know you can just use a guitar pick or make a pick yourself. When you use a pick it sounds better and doesn't hurt your fingers. If you're gonna make one you can just fold a index card or get a piece of paper. I'm sure you'll figure out how to make it.

  • So when I strum down I use my fingernail to strum?

  • @perpetualdystopia yes you do.

  • IT looks hard but keep at it and you'll think back to a time when you thought this stuff was hard

  • I've got blisters on me fingers! :D

  • Thanks for that man!

  • am i doing it wrong if my finger is bleeding?

  • @martyjb11 Yea, your p*nis should be bleeding instead, that's the way you do it. Peace

  • I can't wait to buy my first uke! I've been playing electric guitar for about 2 years and I'm so curios :)

  • Down, down up, up down!! @__@

  • my ukulele had FOUR STRINGS NOT LIKE 8 LIKE YOURS

  • @tobi9ify All ukuleles have 4 strings O___O

  • @NekoTalk but his has like 5 or 6

  • @tobi9ify Not it has 4... Look at the bridge of his ukulele.

  • I'm getting really angry cos I can't strum on my ukulele! D:

  • @KetchupExplosion My mother use to tell me I was completely tone deaf and uncoordinated. But even I got it! Its just practice...

  • @korumburra03 Thanks :) I'll keep on trying then :D

  • strumming is so much harder than he makes it look!

  • I like the video 'cos it encouraged me to learn a proper strum beyond four straight downstrokes. But it's a bit confusing for a beginner because he claps the strum as D, DU, UD, but actually he seems to be playing it as D, DU, UDU.

  • I've watched this many times. Super!

  • Thank you very mutch for this video =o)

I think it is hard and my rigth hand just will not cooperate.

It is funny because just 20 days ago, I did not know what an ukulele was and that it existed.

I find this instrumens exhilarating and challenging, and I love it!

  • Ooooh I GOT IT!! All it takes is practice!! Thanks Aaron!

  • Aaron I'm trying to copy exactly what you're doing but mine sounds like a frog stuck in a pipe!! D-:

  • Aaron is awesome! This was SO helpful! THANKS for all these great videos!

  • @EvieCastella I use my thumb too - although I thought I was doing it wrong by doing so lol

  • Great video, but my fingers don't have a meatus. I don't think it'd be wise to strum with it anyway. Could lead to infection. =/

    (1:36)

  • oh i figured out why my strumming sounds bad. I'm strumming it like i would strum a guitar. So i'm strumming the wrong part

  • when i strum it just sounds so awkward, like my fingers are getting caught in the strings

  • @TrappedButterflyInc i had the same problem, practice strumming down with your nail a lot before you try going up to get a feel of where the strings are and try to go a little faster but lighter across the strings.

  • I think i watched the right video last time and i still don't understand. What cord did we learn?

  • i started yesterday, and now have my beginning strumming down! Thanks so much for your video! I was so lost in my books...

    Aloha

    Sharon

  • Thank gosh for this video, I'm finally learning how to strum!

  • Thank you for saving my life(:

  • what's that tune called?

  • im trying to play a chord, its tuned, i can play G,C,E,A. but when im holding down the string it makes a dead string sound. no other sound comes out. could you help?

  • @ccolor4 this guy did another video that explains the left hand i think. its to do with how hard you press down on the strings :)

  • what is a good concert ukulele that i should get for the price of under 100$?

  • Approved

  • oh my goodness! ive been having so much trouble with the strumming and every time ive read the pattern down down up up down ive just been like wtffff -_____-

youre video helped SO MUCH. thank youuuuu(((((:

  • struming is a harder art to learn than chords.

  • I love the riff for the intro and outro of this video!

  • Do you have two use 4 fingers to strum down? I play the guitar so I don't know whether what's the right of strumming. rhythm is easy since i play the guitar. So can I use my thumb and index finger only like the guitar? or is the formal way using all 5 fingers?

  • How are you supposed to strum? Like with all your fingers? Because mine keep falling inbetween the strings

  • i love how you said ukulele at 0:37

I'm from minnesota so I probobly pronounce it funny. I'm getting this Mandolin/Ukulele package soon can't wait!

  • Thats the ONLY pattern I know. I have it on EVERY SINGLE SONG.

  • Question: I strum with only my index, so I can't chuck without throwing off the beat of the song. Since I need to move my whole hand to hit the strings.

  • I cant stum my Ukulele to save my life

  • @SuperGrandisle Strum*

  • omg i have been havingn the hardest time trying to learn how to play and this video helped me so much!!! thank you!!!

  • THANK YOU. YOU ARE THE BEST.

  • omg my index finger is on fire!! haha been practicing for about 30 mins but dont want to stop yet. Got my uke about an hour ago and will keep trying till it bleeeeeeeeds lmao maybe im not strumming right :S

  • I love this song, I learned it on my honeymoon in Hawaii.

  • aloha! this technique is really cool im stoked, starting to get the hang of it

  • Alalalalong! ;D

  • Down Down Up Up Down!

  • i bet you bench press alot :-) love the vids by the way!!

  • when you are strumming is it always that pattern you showed or are there others?

  • is it a problem if your strumming finger sometimes accidentally hits the side of the fretboard? it doesn't make a big sound i'm just not sure if it does any harm for the uke in the long run... and i don't even know if there are any trick to avoid that when you're strumming really hard. :)

  • Excellent demo, thanks

  • Thank you sooooooo much!!!!! this was very helpful!!! Love from California!

  • good call kkeellyy. you gotta strum with your nail. this will probably do the trick. Aloha!

  • hi. i bought a ukulele yesterday and ive been using your videos to help. im having difficulty with the strumming i can do it but it sounds really quiet. how can i make it louder?

  • @KkeellyyT strum with your nail

  • thanks man

  • That was helpful, it didn't change the strum I learned earlier, just the rhythm of it. Thanks!

  • thanks you are alot of help <3

  • just got a ukulele today!!!

  • thanks

  • with RIPPED BICEPS like you, I'd do whatever you tell me to do SIR!

  • @zachbdude You can get a Makala standard to start on for around $30

  • I got it! (finally!) Will now play very slow songs before I mess it up again! Thank you, so videos are great!

  • its pissing me off that now my fingers hurt i cant do this at all my ukulele is completely out of tune and you are acting so calm during this >.<

  • @CallMeFlorence i have basically ripped off the skin off my fingers from playing this thing lol (only just got it) so im ordering a felt plectrum, also get an electronic tuner, tuning by ear is impossible, for me anyway :)

  • Thanks for posting these vids. They have really helped me when after my 1 on 1 uke lesson I have forgotten what we went over. Your vids have not only been a great refresher but also have given a new approach to learning some of my more challenging lessons. Like strumming. I joke that I am too white to have rhythm but your clapping method helped to make it click. THANKS!!!

  • What kind of ukulele is that? Also, how much would it cost? Great video by the way:]

  • THANK YOU! From ZERO experience, within one day (about 6 times 5-10 minutes practice sessions), I could do this at your speed! Yahoo! Feel like I'm playing already! Now on to the next lesson =]

  • Are those nylon or steel strings?

  • ahah mine was 30 dollars and i lovve that thing!

  • too fast...i'm new and you go to fast in your lesson...ugggh...

  • I can play guitar would transferring to a ukulele be easy ?

  • @tomskatesstreet666 Yes it is.

It's basically like playing a smaller guitar with 4 strings. I just got an uke today & ive been playing guitar. It's pretty easy for me and i've already learned some advanced songs.

  • @Killswitch64 Thanks

  • @tomskatesstreet666 yes i did i was so good in lick 2 hours

  • @tomskatesstreet666 If youre a guitarit, start with the baritone uke

  • @tomskatesstreet666 Sorry for the late reply tom. The ukulele is a guitar high four strings with a capo on the 5th fret. And on the high g standard tuning the low string is tuned an octave higher. Your shapes will cross over but be a 4th up, a D is a G, E is A, etc.. Aloha!

  • @HawaiiMusicSupply with what you said in mind, would it be worth it to buy a ukulele? If we do use guitar and a 5th capo, are we missing anything a ukulele has to offer?

  • @tomskatesstreet666 i am doint the samething i just started yesterday its kind of challenging because the size difference and But it just tkes time im going to get it sooner or later :)

  • @tomskatesstreet666 im doint the same thing atm i just started yesterday it started kind of hard because of the size difference but i going to get it sooner or later :)

  • @tomskatesstreet666 transferring is so easy! :)) just as long as you can play the guitar well

  • I bought myself a ukulele for $150. You can always buy them much cheaper starting at around $20 but those do not have nice sound and they're more like a toy.

  • dude great lesson, thank you so much for the upload

  • wow mine was only £12 and it's brand new

  • @beanstaIkjack that means its one of the little toy ones... proper ukes go for like $250-1000

  • @JoeytheGrape No it's the real deal and it's the right size. My girlfriend is a muso and has also been playing the ukulele for years. I only bought it to learn and just for a giggle cos she's so bloody good at it. I'm certainly no ukulele fanatic and couldn't give a toss what anyone else paid for theirs. Welcome people to the world of Youtube Ukulele geeks

  • 1:27 twss

  • I'm a little confused. Can someone clarify? He keeps saying, D,D U, U D. But sometimes he says (or does) D, D U, U. Or at least it seems like it to me. Which is it?

  • i finally found a ukelele :D it costed me 20$ lol

  • @atrxroller mine cost 40 but it looks like a toy because of its bright paint job

  • This is so helpful. I can't really find videos that teach basic strumming. What would make it even better is if they looped the slow strumming, I keep having to stop and rewind.

  • Anyone ever heard of a Leonard Soprano Ukulele? It's the only one I could find here in Buenos Aires for about $60, and it seems the strings are so out of whack that I have to play an F chord with both fingers on the first fret. I've tuned it as best I can to the videos here, but still no dice. Any suggestions?

  • @prahajugglaa Hi: I don't know if anyone answered you yet, but just buy what you can afford at first. With additional skills you may decide to buy a different one. A person usually doesn't stick with the first one they buy! I'm on my fifth one! Gave some as gifts & sold one. I found the concert size much more comfortable. Also, there's the question of which strings-just keep practicing and it'll come. Ate logo!

  • @prahajugglaa Oh, also new strings take a while to tune and also the weather influences their tuning. Get an electronic tuner or use the one online to tune. Be sure and keep the uke in a good environment-it can dry out or be too "wet." chao

  • @sapodedo - Thanks very much for the tips! Now I'm here in the US, I may try and pick one up here for cheapish, since the quality is gonna be better in general. Thanks again!

  • i just bought one of these for 50 , and they were selling ones for 30

  • thankyouuu!! This really helped

  • how much does a ukulele cost?

  • you can get as cheap as 40 bucks in Denmark

  • yea you can prety much get them in alot fo places for 40 in california i got my first ne for 35 but honestly for other people i think you should start higher the sound is better,

  • Its so fucking cheap :D

    Goes from 20 to 2000 dollars :P

  • im getting a soprano this week for about $30. if i like it and keep it up ill get a better, but for now $30 is good to start with.

  • @zachbdude You can get beginner ones for 15 pounds. I'm waiting for mine so not too sure on the quality yet.

  • @zachbdude mine wan $50 but good ones are around 100

  • @zachbdude varies from $30 - $3,000

  • @zachbdude I just got a Lanikai LU-11 from guitar center for 50$. For the reviews it seems very nice for a beginner. I dont know muchj about them but it seems to be good for me too.

  • @zachbdude

They're pretty inexpensive! They range anywhere from $20-$200. It depends on quality. Mine is $80.

  • @zachbdude i got mine (black maholo soprano ukulele) today from amazon for £22.99 + a tuner and it costed £35.59 all together and 3 day delivery :L

    hope this helped :)

  • @zachbdude expensive

  • @zachbdude 30-40 dollars

  • @zachbdude i found one for 25-30.

  • @zachbdude anywhere from 30$ to 300$ (usualy)

  • @zachbdude i got a kona. those usally range from $40 to $100

  • @zachbdude any where from 10 to 10000000000000000000000000000 dollars

  • @zachbdude I got one for $40, its a good one too

  • @zachbdude It depends on what you want to buy. It can cost 20-400 euros. I got mine for 20 euros, and it came yesterday, I am really pleased with it, it's beautiful and has 12 frets. Also has awesome color. I could send you the link if you want to. I mean, it's a nice chance to buy sth so good and so cheap. Although the cost also depends on where you live, for instance this particular one that I have came all the way from Germany to Greece where I live, and it was 20E the uku and 19 the post.

  • @zachbdude ukuleles can cost anywhere from 20 dollars to 300. it just depends on what quality you want/can afford :)
