  • That's like a trope. Looks like the horse is hobbling.

  • Thanks so much for the tips! I have been riding English and western for about 9 years! And I'm 14. I love to lope!

  • What if your horse bucks and kicks?. Will you bust your head open because you didnt have a helmet on. And stop trying to show off just because you can ride a "lope" with 1 hand. :L

  • that really helps with the horse i work with.

  • The horse is actually loping "correctly" in the technical term. It's a 3 beat gait so ya. But it is not in any stretch a GOOD lope. He's plodding on his front end and not reaching under himself with his hocks at all. He pushed backwards with his hind legs instead of extending under, supporting himself, and allowing his front end to be light and supple. It's not good, but its not the worst thing in the world either.

  • Kind of embarrassing ....

  • looks like the horse needs to take a shit. i havent even been riding for a year and i know that thats not a lope.

  • @twilightfan7650 Its a counter canter you idiot. Mainly 4 beated.

  • That's the least instructional video I've ever seen in my life. Don't they vet these videos before loading them?

  • @Grb0914 why dont you post your own troll -_-

  • @Ohdatsyogirl You're awfully defensive about this video. If it's not you in the video, it's a strange dynamic. But, my point is, the video isn't very instructional. There's a lot more I'd want to know, like what gait starts off the lope, what other cues are there besides a kissing noise? The video is pretty much silent, just her and the horse loping, and she could explain much, much more than she does.

  • Why aint she riding with a hat on?

  • that horse is limping

  • @revengeracer1 The horse is NOT limping. The horse is obviously trained in pleasure! It's supposed to be a nice, slow, smooth lope.

  • @ridehimcowgirl My friend owns two western pleasure horses, one has won two shows with me on her one time. Neither of them look like this.

  • She might be an expert but the way she rides is just awfull to the eyes

  • @gaboe315 she is riding like a pro. thats what western looks like.

  • i've never seen a horse do a "trlope" before.

  • what a lazy ass lope, i could take a nap on that loping mother fucker, thats not just slower than a canter, it looks slower than a walk , no thats not how you want to lope your horse.

  • @19697522 post your own video on your own horse than.

  • it sounds like she is going to start orgazming any time soon..

  • FOR GODS SAKE PEOPLE!!!!!!! Learn about it before you run ur gay ass mouths!!!!!!! She is doing this completely right!!!! This is the "style" and this is western pleasure. She would win the shows WAY before any of you idiots would. You guys drive me INSANE!!!!! I train barrel horses and so far my best time is 12.2 seconds. I would know what I am talking about.

  • @LanaesRabbitry training barrel horses doesn't make you an expert about western pleasure and how they're supposed to lope. i've never seen a western pleasure horse lope like this.

  • @LanaesRabbitry THANK YOU!!!! XD I know your comment was said 1 month ago but OMG was I the only one who got helped by this video some?! LOL

  • @LanaesRabbitry Last time I checked barrel racing and western pleasure are two different things.

  • the horse looks like its really uncomfortable!!!!!!!!! are you sure your doing it right??????????

  • That just looks un comfortable for the horse and ver y un natural soryyy

  • Jeez... I'm nearly twice this woman's size and I have never heard a horse huff like it needs a breathing-treatment. And you're in a jumping arena... don't you think you should be in something with a bit less dust turf?

  • @HiddenHeartsCry Lots of horses do that, and they are completely healthy. And she can be in any arna she wants. Stop being so ignorant and controlling people FOR GODS SAKE!!!!

  • All of you guys are idiots. learn more about the decipline she is riding before you criticize it. More than half of you are wrong. I do agree it isnt good for ther legs, but that is what a lope should look like. I bet you she wins everything at shows. This is western pleaure. I go to a barn whith a lady who won at nationals and that is exactly the way her horses move. it's the "style"..get your shit right before running your dumb ass mouths.

  • I don't know much about loping, but this looks like a horse trotting with a sore leg... :/

  • @RiannaRee Welcome to the western pleasure lope... it's painful to watch and NO that is NOT a NATURAL lope. So please don't think that's what your horses gaits should look like.

  • i feel like this horse is too small for her everytime she rides i feel her horses pain shes too big for that horse wayy tooob ibggg

  • You'r horse looks soo uncomfortable!! poor thing, it's overbent too?

  • that lope looks like your poor horse is crippled and is hobbling along...

plus when you asked your horse to lope you pierced him with the spur! why dont we kick you with a spur and see how you like it?

  • Same thing horses at my barn too can lope faster then that and my horse still throws me off when I lope him

  • That is not how you lope a horse when you lope a horse it us a lit faster

  • It looks like the front two legs are almost walking and the back ones are doing an EXTREMELY slow lope... It says watch an expert. She is NOT an expert. The horse is just doing this hobble type thing around the ring. Make sure to squeeze with you outside leg. Seriously WTH?!

  • Okay. Her horse is not Lame or 4 beated Gate. Her horse is clearly is a western pleasure horse wich is how they are trained to be loped. Go to any Big show and you will see the horses lope much slower than this.

  • waaahhh what the fuck!@ 4-beating is hideous and not right.

  • her heels werent down when she asked... and thats not even a lope.. thats a hobble

  • the horse is not struggling..are you people stupid?! this is how western horses are supposed to be. no it is not pretty and it is 4 beating but it is how you win.

  • @9395sara I ride western and the horse I ride does NOT do this! He is 23 and he still almost throws me out when he lopes. This is NOT how western horses are supposed to look.

  • @PolkaDotCrazy1029 Go to a pleasure show and the horses that win lope like this! my horses don't do this either. i don't like it i was just stating the fact that this is how they win at the shows. i lost b/c my horse didnt do this. i don't agree with it at all and it is 4 beating.

  • I'm not trying to be mean, but that horse is really struggling, you're obviously not too heavy to horseride, but you are to heavy for that horse.

  • that horse is so slow!!

  • be smart and wear a helmet

  • this is the most stupid "info" video on youtube. the hourse is CLEARLY uncofortble. she is half troting half cantering. the trot is in the front legs and the canter is in the back. some needs to teach her how to ride properly.

  • @THismydream12 the horse isnt uncomfortable.. that is how western horses are supposed to be. but it is 4 beating

  • Three beat my ass. Slow the video down and it clearly shows a 4-beat; in fact it looks like the horse is trotting in front and walking in back. And the hind quarters are so strung out and uncollected it looks like the horse's tail is in another county. Some expert!

  • all i want to know if your horse goes off all crazy and everything how would u stop it if u have your reins so long like washing lines?!?

  • that horse looks in pain. a canter aint a slow gait it should be fasteer

  • she is LOPING. that's the gait used for a western pleasure class, duh.

her legs need to be a stretched down more, but that is in fact correct.

  • okay:

    a) if your teaching how to lope, then LOPE

    b) don't lean so far back

    c) give your horse to someone who can ride

  • poster is too far back, you aren't square, but a bit too much on you're haunches. this will encourage your horse to break gate. Sit upright, shoulders back, on the bottoms of your pockets, reins not too loose or too tight, heels down (of course) with outside pressure from the heel or leg. Unless you have a horse trained with counter leads then just push with the inside leg.

  • very beautiful horse

  • She's a dumbass, period. And her horse as the ugliest lope EVER.

  • that was a fail. That was a trot with a limp. XD and u call urself experts. all ur videos suck monkey, :) i hope ur proud to be making that poor horse do something stupid and probably stressful for its muscles.

  • That was not a lope nor canter it was a collected trot

  • @HorseRidingIsOurLife I agree that it was a suckish lope but it wasn't a collected trot it was a three beat gaint but she didn't do it right most likley because the horse is a western pleasure horse

  • I dont want to fight with anyone, here but that is not a proper lope. that is a fast trot at best. Her horse looks old, and very skinny for the rider that the horse is carrying and she looks lame in her back left leg, or even hip.

  • How sad that you guys would say such mean things. You think your so called horse people?? You represent the rest of us when you say such things. Im glad I don't now any of you. The way I see it is that those that need to speak out and criticize are just covering their own insecurities. Stop acting like you know everything.

  • it would be funny if she actually jumped

  • Hi, I really like your videos. Iam a mother of two and have taken some lessons but still didn`t get it. But i have learned so much from your videos. please keep them comming.

And a big thankyou i have learned alot from you kelly.

  • Your horse is doing an odd kind of trot. And your horse is extremely uncomfortable. I think you should be fired from expert village just like the rest of those expert village people because you guys have no idea what you are talking about.

  • I see now that fat chicks who feel the need to declare themselves horse experts or psychics aren't just in Texas.

  • Sorry but that is just as ugly as the peanut rollers. The horse is not having fun and you have a horrid seat at that what you are calling a lope. It is not even a good three beat. The horse is stiff and you are bouncing around on his poor back. I think you have very loosely used the term expert......

  • What a nice horse, such a waste... with her riding it and all :/ :(

  • poor horse with a fat woman...pooor horse

  • your horse is four beating, he needs to be pushed forward THEN slowed down

He's not reaching and his shoulder isn't up

when my horse does that, I roll my outside spur and lift my reins

if he still isn't moving at a three beat lope, I do role backs

  • of course you look where you want to go. if you dont you will hit something. geez

  • stupid b..ch... poor horse...

  • poor horse...

  • when i canter my pony that im riding keeps going back to trot and my instructor tells me to sit back and im trying to and i feel that i am but the pony still wont canter will someone help(im not a bad rider either i jump and we canter groups and lots more)help!!!

  • well u got a pony they are stubborn so you might want to think about some soft spurs that might possibly catch the ponys attention trust me my friend had a pony and i jumped on it with spurs and it listened to me

  • what is lope??

    i ride english

  • Comment removed

  • no, she's actually right

a canter is faster then a lope

but you're right about the western part

    lope is in western showing

    canter is in english

  • Comment removed

  • @horselove12madikylie if your horse was loping, it wouldnt be troting in the front. i mean, im not going to repeat myself, because i said everything that needed to be done in the msg from.. how many months ago?

i might be 16, but if I can go to the biggest show in cali and win all firsts, one third, and the championship in all the classes I entered, I think I know what I'm talking about.

  • Comment removed

  • @horselove12madikylie you just love to brag

  • @56animallover im soo sry i have a huge hacker on my accou nt and yall did explain it rite!!! i dont even have nieces 19-25... im only that old... sry for th trouble jeweled peach 56animallover and evryone else!!!

  • nope u r wrong its slower than a canter

  • Comment removed

  • that is not a canter or a lope. lope is the same as canter in essence. that is a trotty canter, she needs to put the leg on a bit

  • @horses4eva123456789 i didnt mean to vote down but u r exactly rite... thank u...

  • i hate it how it says "watch as an expert........." shes sooooooo not an expert......lol

  • How about we really lope here eh? Not look like we're lame and hobble around in a circle? HAHA

  • more like hmm..i think im gonna jerk on my horses face but not make its body do anything but paddle with its front feet. lol.

  • @bouncyshoeheads Actaully this is a lope. Just people call cantering, loping. I personally call cantering, loping because cantering in my opinion is a dumb word and sounds english. :) I train barrel horses so I would know. I'm just saying....

  • You should stop worrying about your glasses and focusing on teaching your horse correctly.

  • haha whys she even wearing them??? theres like no sun................lo,l

  • looks sore behinde

  • Bahahaha. Ha.

  • lmao the horse is fourbeating and trantering. good job on not treaching correctly haha. and i thought my horse fourbeated bad haha.

tho it is hard to find a horse who can lope slow and not fourbeat for western pleasure

  • thats not a loop that is barley a trot you are so notr a expert i like the other persson

  • omg this is a horrible rider there is obviously something wrong with the horse its not lame but she might have a deformity in her back foot as she is slightly dragging causing the trot that is supposed to be a lope HAHA funny funny its not the horse its the rider the rider needs a vet to check the horse out

  • This was painful to watch, ugly. Is the horse in pain? My partener has been a farrier for over 25yrs and thinks the horse looks lame.

  • omg your totally right this horse looks lame totallyy its was hard to watch because it wasnt even a lope the horse was like limping and carrying the rider horrid.

  • thats not loping. My horse is a champion at barrel racing and ive been riding since i was a lil kid! YOUR NO EXPERT!

  • @sydnayyy1995 i have to and she still doesnt believe me.

  • the horse didn't have a level topline or his head set correctly, a the rider frequently brought her reins up instead of in, so that is why the lope looks a bit different. and yeas, the WP style of loping is quite different from anything else.

  • that was not a lope! that was a trot and the horse was tryin to bridge to a lope but it couldnt

  • that wasnt a lope. it looked like the horse was in pain too for some reason. that was like a really messed up gate.

  • ok 1ur not an "EXPERT" at all this horse is horrible and give a bad def. to loping your horse..i just might know since im good enough to place at the all american quarter horse congress in western pleasure

  • i agree but not with the bad horse thing its usually the rider not the horse but other than that i agree

  • @sonofatrip ive done it in both english and western pleasure and she doesnt believe me

  • That was NOT a lope. It was barely even a trot. Not only that, but that horse does NOT trust her at all.

  • um, that was soooooooooooooo NOT a lope! it was a trot idiot!

  • This instructor and her videos for expert village are great examples of english in a western saddle. True western is a bit different (and way more comfortable and functional). :)

  • That is a lope. Okay, the names for the gaits got confusing to people. walk, trot, and canter are the same as walk, jog, and lope. But a lope is typically slower then a canter.

  • @AppaloosaCowgirl1234 barely. it depends on th horse

  • Ha ha. That's what my horse does when he's being lazy and stubborn. Either this mare is having the same problem, or she's just not a great mover, but I think the rider did fine :)

  • She is not to fat for that horse you have NO clue what you are talking about. She is in a 4 beat lope! SO there you go now lets just leave it there!

  • duh its a 4 beated gate she said everything right she doesn't have the postion right she isn't going fast enough I think that horse is a really bad mover if thats how it is going 2 lope

  • THIS IS RETARTED I mean she ovisly sucks!these videos r cheap

  • it's youtube. get a grip.

  • fuck u bitch

  • Excuse me? I'm just being honest. It's youtube.. you want a high class video? Go to a cinema. Jesus Fuck.

  • don't be rude on this. We who want to truely learn don't need this childishness you are doing with swear words added to say what???? You don't know who is on this age wise like parents as well as kids.

  • thats how fast i do walking on my horse

  • Oh, that poor horse.

  • What the hell? How many things can i find wrong with this? The horse is LAME probably due to the fact that the rider is TOO FAT. The neck being arched does not mean the horse is collected like he ought to be. Lope is a 3 stride not a 4 stride, that would be a trot. But to her credit she is right on one thing, she is a expert. A expert IDIOT.

  • for one, this horse is not lame. it is simply doing a 4 beat canter which is ugly as hell. for two, where you said strides, you should have said beats. and the riders weight would have nothing to do with it. and also, youre right about the neck part, but if you do it the right way, bringing the head in gives room for the horse to be rounded out and thus allows collection

  • todally she is VERY FAT!!!and she doesnt even no how to ride fat people ride western

  • Wow, I'm in complete awe from your stupidity. I mean it, just wow.

First of all, do you have any idea how much weight a horse can carry? And for god sakes, she's wearing a vest.

Two, the horse is not lame. If he was lame, he would be pinning his ears and showing much more discomfort.

Three, the arching of his neck means he's giving to her pressure. He's already collected, believe it or not.

I'd say you're the idiot here.

  • ok please help me!!

ok when my horse lopes he has a very fast lope! i dont real like that. and i dont think he was properly trained so he has a very "high" lope.(like he is almost rearing. but it might be me) but i go realy high and dont realy feal like i have control.

  • some horses neck comes up really high. the first time i cantered i was on a horse named mason his neck naturally bounces alot and came up high making it seem like he was half-rearing each time. try to get a video of it and ask there other then that deep seat, low hands, heels down

  • He most likely needs to be collected. try doing some flexion exercises and bringing his head vertical to the ground. it will help him round himself out and become more collected.

  • also make sure his teeth are done, my horse had her teeth floated and it completely solved the prob.

  • USE BOTH hands is all i can find fault with here.

  • she is in a western saddle not english

  • I'm sorry, but this is not a trainer I'd be wanting to take advice from. If you're going to show a proper video on loping then at least make sure the horse you're using doesn't look like he's a lame WP horse and on top of that, make sure that he's collected.

  • that looks like a trot

  • HAHAHA that horse is going as fast as it can with her on its back

  • Hahaha. True..true.

  • Thats a BAD mover.

  • these things r confusing im very unsure of where comments r refering to... i just want to state i show pleasure and wot not at a high level and i do no wot im talkin about and no wot i see , sorry if offended anyone i mean they put this here for us to state what we think thats just what i think

  • thats not a lope its a lope gone bad.. its ok for like the 1st stride at the start but the it falls apart badley... and i deffently dnt want my pleasure horse to lope like that...

  • that looked like the most uncomfortable thing i've ever seen. Whatever gait this is, the horse isn't moving right and it looks uncomfortable.

  • the problem with these videos is that they mix up western and english. all respect to both, but if you've only got a minute, just do one. the title "canter or lope" is misleading. anyway, in either style, the horse and rider should move smoothly, and the rider doesn't need to using obvious heavy cues. she's not awful here, but if i rode like her, i wouldn't be making dozens of "experts" videos for the whole world to see!

  • the first part of a title is the category the video is in and the part after the colon is the video content. hopefully that clears it up for ya ;)

  • lol, i can see that a lot of people don't get the whole thing about a lope... thanks a lot for your video!!

  • wowthat looks like a trot to me. maybe u need to speed it up a bit

  • thats slower than a fast walk & the horse is trotting in the back that is the most unnatural gait i've eer seen the canter vid looks like a lope this is ridiculus my trainer said so & i think so...i"m glad i ride english

  • Watching horses lope this slowly is always painful, it doesn't look natural at all. It looks like its four beated (?) in her explanation thingy doesn't she say that's wrong??

  • that really is not slow. thats actually fast for a lope.its not four its three, its just the horse isnt a great mover is all

  • thank you so much! everyone is like what are you talking about? FINALLY some one agrees with me!!! THANK YOU!

  • lol i know.these people think they know everything! lol im not saying im gr8 or anything cuz i KNOW im not lol but i show aqha all around n know the gaits. her lope of course is not gr8,, the horse justisnt very gd mover . these people need to get a little less cocky cuz idont think these people show aqha which is what this horseis. so if they do they need to get in line n if they r so perfect go win world n congress! lol

  • exactly exactly.... lol i mean if she's doing it wrong then ya that's one thing but she's not doing it wrong it just looks weird the way she's doing it..... but if you have a nasty comment go waste your time commenting on a video that the.will actually see

  • lol exactly. she isnt doing it wrong its just she is no professional horseman, prob more novice n the horse is obviously not a world champion but shes getting the points down. or like someone commenting saying she was steering w her feet wrong u r supposed to use ur insideleg she said to steer???? wth! lol u like she said should use the outside lol these people crack me up lmao or someone was like ive only been riding a yearand can ride better, i was dude u r a little too cocky go win world

  • That horse is mostly trotting up front!! watch only the forlegs--there's a couple strides here and there where there's a leading leg, but for the most part, he's trotting up front and doing a lil hop/skip in back! This is not proper loping. Loping is the same GAIT as the canter. Loping is the western riding version of cantering. Loping "lower & slower"! The leg movements are the same whether canter or lope. This horse is a very poor example to show the western lope because he's not even in gait!

  • it looks like a very lazy trot to me and the lady riding the horse is very stiff she looks like she does not enjoy riding at all.

  • thats no canter or lope!thats awful, the horse looks like its legs are broke..and stiff

  • OKAY!! to all yall who think u know what ur talkin bout u dont! okay a lope is a very very very yet collected canter.. it's supposed to be the speed of a trot yet the beat of a canter. now i jump and i still know what a lope is...

    WOW WHAT IDIOTS!!!

    she did fine..

if she didn't than that's ur opionion so keep it to urself.

  • haha. i found your comment a tad off. so the way you see it everyone but you who thinks they know their stuff really doesn't because you do?? am i reading correctly?

  • thanks for stating it that way. Let's just say ya the lope looks crappy but the point is tht is the speed the lope is supposed to be. you should know tht i mean u ride western sometimes! so the next time u wanna say i know everything! check to make sure you know ur stuff first!

  • hahahha. why did you have to send me a message!? "lets just say the lope looks crappy"? it is! the horse is a horrible mover. i do know what a lope is and what ever indicated that i didnt? but quite obviously you dont know what you are talking about, you dont even make proper sense.

  • wow i have been riding a year and i can do much more than that even my freinds and horse said that

  • im sorry but not trying to startanything but isnt that a LITTLE cocky?? just a qustion what do u show?quarter horses?

  • PMSL! What was that! To any newbies, dont canter like this, its aweful!

  • not a canter...

  • Just looks like a lazy trot to me.
