I THINK it comes from the word relationSHIP- not sure. I just got it from Tumblr, as in every fandom (Harry Potter, Twilight ect.) people are like 'I ship Draco/Harry' and usually put their names together, (Draco/Harry would be Drarry :D)

But if the pairing aren't actually together then that means your 'ship' has sunk. :(
