There's a difference between general public interest (like general welfare) or doing it for private interest, or special interest groups.

But no, the government does not have the right to take away the rights of one individual to give to another group.

It is going to take the new owners years to build the building, attract residents and attract customers to the new businesses, pay off their mortgage and so on... and in 5 or 10 or 20 years someone else could make all their sweat equity be for naught by eminent domaining their asses.

Thanks for bring this issue up. Unfortunatly there are just too many people who don't know about eminent domain.  It first came to my attention when it was used in Norwood, Ohio. It was supposed to only be used to take a part of the land to be used for public use, such as building a road. Now it's been perverted and used to steal from the people.
