  • @DJofSWE Bass.

  • @alexjuareznelson probably realised how much of a disaster it was. We've all been there...

  • @DJofSWE six string bass. i guess for more melodic range.

  • You forget emulator. That also nice sinthesizer. Prophet-5 use my Favourit polish new romantic composer Sławomir Łosowski. I don`t know who use moog source in Poland maybe Józef Skrzek leader of S.B.B very nice jazz rock band. My favourite lon play album "Ze słowem biegnę do ciebie" i have on vinyl

  • whats wrong with this guy, is he high, he cant keep the song tempo

  • One of the best tecno songs ever. Great bass performance.

  • This song is very difficult to play live. I love it ! With remix or not it's a very unique song . Who made it is a genius.

  • this is so LAME! But I love it! XD

  • I think this live version sounds rather good :D

  • wow, this is thin....I just saw a guy doing it home better, but the gear was a lot harder to use live in those days...

  • i wonder, at what point does a band get sick of performing and hearing one of their songs over and over again.

they have performed this song so many fucking times

  • i came

  • ha live sucks...the song is the best though

  • Yeh but the song still works. I get a strong feeling hes a musician not a vocalist but for some reason he ends up doing it - check out blue monday live (the studio version).

He even sings Find it so hard - to stay in tune with u.

    I love these guys.

  • I love New Order but they could be hilariously bad live. They actually went down the charts after this TOTP performance. Still , its music history. Seriously though forgetting the words ?!

  • IIRC March 31st 1983. I have got this edition and but it cuts out during the number 1 song and but New Order performed this for the first time on TOTP and i had a major guess it would be their very first TOTP appearence.

But it re-entered the charts in October 1983 and the performance was re-shown with a new caption and it stayed in the charts for 38 weeks according to my British Hit Singles book.

  • emulator rules

  • Just AWESOME! These guys are brilliant! Way ahead of time (as said before)

  • The band DID make a profit on this track, but Factory did not! There was 1p each profit after costs on both sides, but Factory had to pay 3.7p out of their 1p. Yes, you do the maths!

  • Thats actually a myth.

  • Lo más grande.

  • those guitar phrases after every lyric line are just awesome...give these guys credit for creating music they knew was WAAAAAY AHEAD of its time.

  • That 'guitar' is a bass....major difference.

  • the power gotic of Ian curtis

  • .....einfach nur super!

    DER Song der 80er!

Nur schade das der Clip nicht so gut ist....

  • This reminds me of my college freshman year roommate, who played this fucking song almost literally 24 hours a day.

  • That must have been awesome xD!

  • @rdangelo me in my previous life lol I have listened to it for more than 100 times in 6 months

  • @rdangelo

ROTFLMAO. I bet you clicked dislike. :-DDDDD

  • I wonder what it would be like with I an Curtis's vocal on this tune. I think it would sound class, Shame it wont ever materialize lol

  • Yeah, that would be really interesting!

  • Sounde alot different than usual

  • this seems like a slow version???

    where is the energy?

love the original and all the mix versions but this is hard work -sorry guys it looks like it was no fun for you?

  • Oops! Slippery keys from Gillian on 2:05. Guess it was hot in that studio once you'd decided to play live in front of millions of viewers and the equipment decides to play up. Still pretty cool though.

  • Nice....Look at all of those amazing analogue synthesizers. Prophet 5, Moog Source..... This is like porn for me (Well, sort of).

Try recreating that on a PC or digital studio; no chance!

  • whats the synth at 00:26 ??

  • the one that sounds like a voice from heaven

  • The voice is from Radioactivity by Kraftwerk and was sampled into an Emulator 1 Sampler (The Synth you've asked about). New Order had to pay Kraftwerk 2 Pence for every record sold as they took the sample from their album without asking for their permission first. If you listen to Radioactivity you can hear the choir at the beginning. Bet they were gutted!

  • im gonna have to check out kraftwerk for sure, amazing how did they stuff like that way back in those days thanks for the indepth info on that.

  • I don't thing they are gutted, Kraftwerk seems to like New Order.

  • O yah, it is the same sample. I didn't realize that.

  • Apparently I remember hearing a documentry were they said this TOTP performance didn't go very well because the electronics were not working correctly.

  • I recently read in Uncut that New Order hates this song, especially this song playing live. They say it's very hard to play (I doesn't sound hard).

    I like this version though.

  • They don't like this song because people ask for it all the time. Playing it live nowadays is fine, but in the early '80s, the machines would often misbehave so that's why they say it's hard. It's not the playing itself, it's to make the machine sound like in the studio.

  • I have heard that they hate this song because the cost of the EP was more than the profit they made on it. So whenever it went up in the charts, they lost money! Sadly for them this song went up and down inthe charts many times in the 80's!

  • I love New Order so much, but this is so sooo bad...!

  • ...anda que el colega estaba bien puesto... no veas....

  • Go listen to Orgy or something wanker

  • de la puta mare este video

  • C est à chier !!!!

  • sinik c'est toi qui est à chier pauvre merde ambulante de mes deux.

  • Vas donc chier alors pauvre con.

  • orgy is a penis

  • About the sound,I don't think it's their fault but the live tech's. Whoever was in charge of the mixing desk in that program should have been hanged by his thumbs.

  • lmao the bunny at the begining xd

  • i love female keyboard player :)))) good song.

  • She's married to the drummer.

  • timeless !!!

  • One word: Erstaunlich.

  • I remember in an interview Barney saying that, with the benefit of hindsight, it was a stupid policy to always play live versions of songs that they had spent months perfecting in the studio. :-)

  • On the other hand, they get so much more respect for playing live. Bono himself admired that attitude.

  • bono himself - he is the record. they called him a git-sock for not playing live himself, he is a bit-end.

  • Barney calls Bono "Bongo".

  • Bloody damn good song

  • Boo Hoo! Dreadful singing, crap sound, bad haircuts etc... NO were always a startling shambles, the blatent lack of sheen and professionalism is part of the charm of the band and I love the cheesy sound of the synths at the end!

  • Good lord his singing is awful! lol

  • what a dreadfull performance. acording to one of the band members (don't know their names) every time they performed on tv the song went down in the charts LOL

  • probably hooky, and their honesty's a good thing! I'd rather this than James Blunt any day of the week!

  • oh wow ilove new order but this live video just hurts to watch. hahaha. i still find it so hard....to watch this.

  • i have to agree on mily in the early 80s they didnt sound very good live but u have to take in credit there band membe killed himself and then the name change accouned and new order came about wasnt till late 80s were they sounded alot better!!!

  • baredd79 you are fucking stupid

  • Esos bronces sintéticos del SEQUENTIAL CIRCUITS PROPHET-5 FUERON UNA CONSTANTE EN TRACKS BAILABLES DE LOS PRIMEROS 80S.

  • friggen sweet

  • Thank goodness that I'm just young enough to have been culturally unconscious throughout the 80's.

  • mileyoreily, I'll have to disagree with you on that one. (although I respect your opinion!) I think their raw sound live is amusing and grand. The cheesy keyboards, bizarre guitar solos and karaoke style of Barney Summer are a killer combo!

  • EMULATOR!

  • they are good but the lead singer will rever replace ian curtis.... sorry but its true.r.i.p ian curtis

  • They never replaced Ian because they're not quite the same band. New Order has its own style.

  • although they are one of my favourite bands, i have to admit they are never much good live. the singer always sounds flat and there is very little energy in their performance. not putting them down, they are an awesome band but i think many will agree with me

  • This song on the new Mars Bar T.V advert CLASSIC !

  • IS THAT RALF LITTLE ON BASS???

  • i love this shit baby!!!

  • This is top of The Pops?

  • this is the original , 1 of the only live bands to do totp, the cure , the walk a good copy would b gr8 mixed 2gether.

  • THEY WERE AUSOME THANKS FOR POSTING!

  • That is an all-time classic TOTP live performance! I remember it like it was yesterday.

  • What a great clip.

  • Looks like New Order trying to be Kraftwerk

  • BUT THEY CAN SING & ROCK ALSO.

  • Very nice live act and those vintage synth's mmm ;)

  • This sucks...

  • T wat

  • Man what an awkward perfomance :O thats not the new order i know and love lol,i take it they couldnt be assed or were pissed of with the set up?

  • I'm guessing that dates to around the first release of the song because Bernard hasn't quite mastered the flat 'robot' voice yet and it does sound a little Joy Division. One of the few early performances I've seen and a good one.

  • fantastic!

  • well...i like this song but really not live. still great lyrics

  • This was the best that was ever done on TOTP as not many groups played live on there

  • that's The cure ;;; the song the walk is the same??

  • Everyone knows Bobby Smith has always ripped off the mighty New Order! ;)

  • idiot

  • You Cure fans love it.

  • ::ROLLEYES::

  • ::FARTS LOUDLY::

  • Crappy audio but still neat. I've never heard this version before. Looks to be very early in the Blue Monday "generation". Plus you can still hear the Joy Division influence load and clear in this version.

  • totp, can t beat it. great.crap mix, so what. hooky launched a million chorus effected bass lines.wonderful

  • Hear Peter Hook twanging away on his Shergold six string bass.

  • The mix is awful! The vocals, which have always been awful anywho, are mixed too upfront and are too loud in comparison to the music... and we all know this is a song popular for its beat. Despite this, I still love the video! It's very periodic of the 80's.

  • yeah, definetely sounding ridiculous, but still one of the biggest tunes ever. new order live always was either brilliant or a cosmic joke......

  • I agree the mix is pretty bad, but I actually enjoy the vocals and the lyrics of this song, along with the obviously catchy beat and music.

  • Of course it's awful! I would be seriously disappointed if I saw New Order play perfectly live, talk about ruining the moment :)
