  • well the band fucking sucks so bad it's funny, my middle school band sounded better and they sucked. She's probably better than me anyway

  • this is soooo pathetic. my dadcan do sooooo much better. so can i and i've only been playing for 2.5 years.

  • She's fantastic, and the work she put in was probably arduous. Of course she was probably made to feel awful by comments on her accompaniment, which was not of her making.

  • Good clarinetist, awful orchestra.

  • I am so so glad I used piano when I performed this piece... I feel so sorry for that poor girl...

  • Hopefully the clarinet soloist will move on and get into a better orchestra. Is this a high school band?

  • Ou:D Very interesting interpretation:D

  • @MariaVogelBird it was probably the publishing. i saw the band piece and the clarinet solo part and didnt even look at it twice. i just used my copy i had and ordered the orchestra accompainiment to perform with my schools Chamber orchestra. didnt go as well as i wanted it to. cuz none of the winds showe dup except two trumpets, and a horn. but i saved the day with my relative pitch and wrote out the music for the second horn and wrote the important 1st horn meausures for him haha. it was..idk.

  • Pelham Memorial High School

  • woah. musicans playing with their legs crossed?! and the flutes have terrible posture! Ugh, this is probably going to happen to me next year if my band does this for a senior solo..

  • she is a really good clarinetist, unfortunately the "orchester" is too bad, how can someone put saxophones together with such music like weber, moreover i think the accompaniment is too hard/strong/loud except the clarinetist they totally destroyed this piece, it's against everything weber and his time stood for

  • wow nobody realizes good accompaniment unless they hear god-awful afterwards. seriously, thats horrible. this girl is playing a very difficult solo and u guys cnt get the accompaniment right. thank god im using a piano for my texas all-state solo on this piece...

  • whats up with the accompaniment man! its seems that they are ganging up against the soloist poor girl it must have been torture.

  • Wow, she is amazing.

I feel terrible. Such bad band accompaniment..

  • I realize it has been pointed out already, but you've got serious talent as a high school student. However, the band accompaniment was sad and disappointing. You truly deserved a lot better than the noise restricting you from playing to the best of your abilities. The random Bass Drum / Timpani made me chuckle at 3:29, because it was so misplaced.

  • It's a shame she has to play with accompaniment like that. She's quite good for a highschool clarinetist.

What's up with the timpani (bass drum?) at 3:29?

  • Everyone looks bored, and as a result, look like amateurs. Not that their playing was much better, but bad playing is understandable in younger students, bad posture is unforgivable. And the description says high school. That go from unforgivable, to sad. All of the flutes are hunched over and slouched, and the clarinets are leaned back. It's sad, and makes them look lazy, and is effecting their playing ability.

  • ouch, that was painful. the soloist was much better than the band. i am learning the same piece for my all-state audition, and it is difficult

  • Poor thing. You're really good and you're stuck playing with that band? You deserve better than that.

  • The band accompaniment is comically bad... it just sounds like noise... and the random bass drum hit in the middle of her solo?

  • omg. did they get the orchestral parts and band parts mixed or does that band just sound like crap? honestly. I wouldn't perform with them if you pais me. that would be embarassing.

  • why did she skip the second trill at 2:10?? Also her tempo varies by time, even in the same movement. I guess listening to more recordings of this piece, notably the one by Sabine Meyer. She captures the spirit of this piece well.

  • Some editions of this piece omit the trill you are talking about. I would also cut the soloist a lot of slack for performing with this group. It's not easy to be that much better than those around you. Picture an orchid among weeds.

  • I played that piece last year, but with a pianist......props to Tierney for being able to play with such an awful band accompanying her.

  • OMG WEIRD

my names Tierney, and i play the Clarinet in Band

    :S

  • awful band!

are they really playing weber¿? ¬¬

  • Yes, they are playing Weber. And Weber is getting clobbered big time.

  • did any one notice that at 2:47 a flute gurl was talking in the middle of everything she is the fat one but the soloist was great but the band needs to work on the playing and stuff they were AWFUL!!

  • i think thats the amercan version of that piece where theres practicli no staccatos. Bummer.

  • Wow, I don't understand how some band directors could let their students go on stage sounding like that. The band's sound after all is a reflection of the director...tisk tisk. Great soloist though! I thought it was awesome how you were still able to play that wonderfully despite what the accompany sounded like. Oh man, I just do not think it was fair for the soloist to play with a band like that. Oh well, nice job anyway.

  • Great job on the solo but the rest of the band sounds terrible! You have an awesome tone and steady beat! Keep it up! What grade are you in?

  • She is good, but the band is terrible. Our band is better. We're the second in the state of Illinois, and YES I'm bragging.

  • Clarinetist is wonderful. Band is not. True that public school is filled with "band directors" who are music performance rejects who are lazy and completely ignorant. This girl no doubt learned to play from a private teacher.

  • ibroke..., I would take issue with you generalization about band directors. They are no different from any other group of professionals. You will find weak doctors, lawyers, accountants, etc. I'm not sure why you singled out public school BDs, but the average suburban band program will eat the lunch of a private school band program in the same area. I've found that when it comes to schools, communities get what they deserve.

  • No doubt it is a wide generalization and for sure the public school bands are better. In my locale, the band directors, excepting a few, are as I described before. The bands here sound like the one we have here.

  • Ibroke, I remember as late at the 70s there were multi-state regions that still did not have decent bands; for example, the northern plains and Appalachia. Now, I think each state has at least one ok band in it. Where are you that the bands are so weak? By the way, I grew up in a band in the early 60s that was only a little better than the one here.

  • I bet even my middle school band is better! Oh wait im freshmen now...=), well w/e i bet we're better! NICE SOLO! How old is she?

  • WOW...in middle school!! i couldn't have imagined doing this long of a solo for that kind of audience at that age... the band doesn't really hit much of it tho....

  • argghhh the girl in the white dress playing the flute is shocking! dnt cross ur legs while u play!!!!! its such bad posture!¬!

  • Hey, great solo performance!

The band... uhm... ok... compared to the band at my school, however, quite good. xD

  • yes the band is RUBBISH, not bad solo though

  • well done!

  • Bravo Tierney!!!!!!

  • I don't think it should called a band, I wish my band director would give a solo that long to a clarinet, he's biased for the trumpet, the 1st trumpet gets tons of solos.. grrrr

  • the soloist was awsome.....the band...not so awsome

  • What??? This is the Weber Concertino? I hope this is a beginner or leisure band. Otherwise it would be a very poor reflection on the school, its band director, and their dedication to the arts. You not only hear the lack of discipline, poor musicianship, and boredom - you see it as well (crossed legs, flip flops, halter tops and day clothes at a concert)? Is there anyone motivating these kids to make music or are they just sitting there blowing hot air?

  • wow there is no way that girl comes from that band!!!

  • lo toca muy mal lo toco mejor yo le falta mucho que estudiar

  • yeah my bands playing this tomorrow....the soloist is good, but what's with the band???

  • Man, she's good. Too bad the accompaniment couldn't do their job as well as she did hers. Oh well, I still like it. Major props to the soloist!

  • WHEEEE. I get to play this for our end of year concert this year. Our band will sound just as AMAZING as yours does.........No joke...Public high school...yeah!...no.......

  • if those flute players held their flutes any lower,it would be perpendicular to the ground my god!

  • i cant feel the beat...

    subdivide band!!!

  • this is very, very slow

  • rofl =P; it could be because of the Band? O_o

  • honestly the Band was horrible, D: The tone is...not rich...there seems to be no foundation in it...D:

as for the clarinetist, she was absolutely wonderful! :) Kept a steady tempo despire the accompanint ^_^ twas very good!

  • clarinettist is good. band is crap. tuning my god.

  • You did really well, but the band is terrible.

I recently played this piece for my state solo & ensemble festival.

  • sure we can "nitpick" this performance a lot but either way. the clarinetist did a good job. Can't say much about the band though. OMG!

  • yo lo toko mejor

  • good tone and intonation by the soloist

  • you have this very solid clarinet player..then all of these bad background players lol..some were even talking while she was bsuy in the music, pretty disrespectful if you ask me, but yeah..shes good..where is she now?

  • i noticed that she slurred all the notes in the solo section on the 2nd page. Thats all right for now, depending on what version she was playing. But the best version ususally have alot of stacatto and tounging involved in that section. Its not a section you can blow away easily usually. More air support and extended diaphragm will give her a more full sound as well. The run she played on the third page was very good, not many people can play that well.

  • My only explanation is that it was left out of that particular copy of the piece. Another thing is that this peice was written to be played with an orchestra and i cant say i like it with a symphonic band or whatever this is.She is a very good clarinetist, i love the balanced 16th notes, even if she did play them as triplets in the first solo part. The solo on the 3rd page was extremely good.

  • A few things, the first movement should be scary, and she should take her time with it. I did notice that she missed a g# trill in the 27th measure, thats a tough one but it comes with practice, and after hearing her play there should be no reason why she should skip that.

  • Vey well done by the clarinetist, especially as a first year. Im not sure if this is some special music school or anything, i doubt it seeing as you're in a gymnasium, but you could still be at a competition or something.

  • It's a regular public high school. But we happen to have a decent arts program.
