How do we know these single celled organisms evolved into the extremely complex animals that suddenly appear at the Cambrian explosion without any transitional fossils?

@QuinnBook it's a good question. A bit like the question about darwins theory(even he questioned it) why is there no fossil evidence of evolution? answer: no one knows. But in the case of the cambrian explosion there are some exceptions from how i understand it. Change in evolution is usually triggered by external forces....the elements. The cambrian explosion happened after "snowball earth" and then a massive warming. the "soup" that was around at the time would have repsonded well to this..

@ChaosCentralUK also we now are able to look at foossils at a microbe level. up until now we could only study fossils on a "macro" level..e.g. dinosaur bones. But now we are able to look at much smaller fossilized stuff. and although the life around this time was "squishy" the backbones etc that were being developed have been trapped in time. also imprints of movement trails etc in the sand have been fossilised. even places where these creatures have been eating have been found.

@ChaosCentralUK but essentially you are still right, the evidence while compelling in many ways..is far from conclusive. and when you consider people still are arguing over the nature of the "t-rex" millions of years AFTER the cambrian explosion...i think we will end up finding they have got alot of things wrong IMHO. Though the very fact that the evidence DOES support that SOME life was very active so so long ago is in itself a wonder..the answers will be revised, but they'll come :)

Eh, no. Why is there no fossil evidence of evolution, answer: there are massive amounts of fossil evidence of evolution. I don't know where the idea that there are no "transitional fossils" come from since so many people believe this misconception.

@Ymirheim there is evidence of fossils from various animals. there is no evidence to support HOW those animals evolved. There is no fossil evidence for any transition..only the appearance of the effects, there are no fossils of small dinosaurs having strange offspring that turn into another animal. Speciality animals just seemed to *poof* appear from no where.

@ChaosCentralUK The question is why are there no strange fossils to show"deformities" in animals as they evolve. It could simply be that those periods where shorter and so less chance to create fossils.

Either way like it or not it IS up for debate. you have your opinion ands thats cool. But dont come here and tell me im "wrong" and thus that Myself and other posters dont have a right to theorise. Where is your evidence to support what you say?
