In other words, since L. Tom Perry is a "typical" LDS apostle without a special witness of Christ (as opposed to the ancient apostles who were ACTUAL witnesses of Christ, both before and after the latter's resurrection), then the only thing L. Tom has to "grab onto" is his less-than-stellar military record. And, this would put him into the same category as that lack-luster General Authority (who The Brethren put out to pasture): Elder Paul H. Dunn
Elder Perry has to be careful, there, that he doesn't "do a Dunn" (meaning, to make himself out to be a hero, just like that lying dufus Paul H. Dunn did).
Does anyone under 40 yrs of age, here, remember Dunn, I wonder? I will bet that most of you younger people do NOT remember him: The Brethren--caught with their pants down--first rushed in, to sweep the glaring allegations of Dunn's collective perfidies under the rug; and, when that failed, they swept old Dunn, himself, right under that rug..
@dvdleek In RE: Apostles as special witnesses of [the name of] Christ. This sounds like revisionist thinking, in the Chruch. If I say that 45 years ago the members actually expected that the apostles each had had a special witness of Christ, then you would call me a liar, for so saying. The present-day wording is the church's "loophole" for this revisionist thinking.
Anciently, however, the Twelve indeed WERE special witnesses of Christ: having seen Him, on occasion, after The Resurrection.
@bsquatch Your comment is 2 years old, but I find that you didn't go far enough...beyond the killing....to the institutional hypocrisy, within the corporate hierarchy of the LDS Chruch. keltontrey will note, I hope, that Pres. Heber J. Grant told all good soldier boys to obey the 12th Article of Faith, in wartime. He--Grant--even told the German-Austrian "district president" (because Europe was divided into districts, at the time) to have the good German Saints obey, honor, & sustain Hitler.
Twelve Apostles, who are special witnesses of "the name of Jesus Christ," teach the gospel and regulate the affairs of the Church in all parts of the world
D & C 107:23
23 The twelve traveling councilors are called to be the Twelve Apostles, or special witnesses of the name of Christ in all the world"
One more thing. You said Gods plan for us. I didn't know someone had my life planned out for me, that's disturbing, wasn't that satans plan in the begining?
Yeah, God rolled the dice and said "that will do" no one said anything about predestination at the hand of God. Gods plan involves creating an environment where his children can make choices. They can be influenced but not coerced by any side.
Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions. Ideas must be distinct before reason can act upon them; and no man ever had a distinct idea of the trinity. It is the mere Abracadabra of the mountebanks calling themselves the priests of Jesus."

Christianity neither is, nor ever was a part of the common law.
To preserve a way of life is nothing short of a dictatorship. Free agency just flew out the window. Not much of a free agent or soul when God made his choice for you. Thats not love, it's control.
I don't get it. We kill the Japanese (God's children) then help them re-build a church. It sounds a bit perverted to me. Onward christian soldiers marching off to war etc.... What a perverted Lizard, far from a hero or anyone with any amount of discernment. What a crock of shit! I heard his testimony, but why did this guy join the marines to kill his brothers and sisters?
You lack perspective. If LIFE was the most important endeavor in Gods plan for us he'd never let us die. So obviously there is something more important than preserving life. Gods plan is about progression and righteousness. Why did God cast out 1/3 the hosts of heaven.. essentially killing them. They were our brothers as well. You don't join to kill you join to preserve a way of life. Apparently you believe Japan would be in a better spot under a monarchy.
I love L. Tom Perry! And I especially love his story of volunteering to rebuild churches in Japan. In a time when immorality is viewed as natural, normal, and acceptable, his example of service and moral integrity is a beacon for us all.

Paul who?
That's the point, exactly!

Elder Perry is one of my favourite Apostles. He is such a wonderful man and role model. God bless you!

You are incorrect about Apostles being "sepcial witness of Christ."
