  • i bowl 2 handed. for my control i use the middle finger of my left hand as weird as that may sound (i'm right handed). my average is at 165 but when i started the league i was at 139. im bowling on a league for the first time in 5 years. one of my buddies' dad is trying to convince me to use my thumb but i think im doing quite alright

  • holy shit that balls got a massive hook

  • Comment removed

  • that had spin!

  • One title two years ago. Curiosity factor... nothing more. What remains of the PBA is desperately hoping for a player that will rekindle the sort of interest Mark Roth did among the youth in the mid 70's. The difference, however, is talent and the ability to win titles, not merely the inconsistent performance produced by an oddball technique.

  • It's been said that two handed gives 23% more speed and torque, basically meaning more hook and even faster, when you go fast you lose hook, not in two handed, different concept. Belmonte was my favorite bowler, never actually paid attention to the two handed concept he had. I bowled single handed, then when i found out Belmo was tow handed, i was like, i want to be like him, did it, found out it was pretty awesome.

  • Jason Belmonte couldn't bowl with one hand when he was very young so he used both. So is it that his development stopped at that age??? He provides a curiosity factor that the PBA believes will draw viewers and create interest, that's all.

  • @20alphabet His development continued on fine. There are actually a few PBA bowlers that are 2 handed, just not mentioned much as belmo, belmo inspired a lot of people too, back then you'd rarely see a two handed bowler, now there's at least one at every alley.

  • It's like Wanted and Dragon Ball Z combined.

  • nice 2 hand curve ball

  • 2 hand bowling is the way to do it

  • i bowl two handed with no thumb obviously and it works great even with plastic balls

  • @chinospot i agree....I bowl with my own reactive ball and my plastic ball,it works great on both...

  • @chinospot love to bowl like that too.

  • robert smith can do this with one haha

  • easy house shots are killing the sport

  • @nazobowler i agree but the beginners would all quit if they start on the shark or us open or that kind of stuff.

  • does anybodie have and tips i am 2 handed and i keep roling over my thumb hole

  • its the way u hit the ball..u are hitting the ball so hard that your ball already starts it the flip position that its suppose to end in..guys normal get there ball drilled for a full roller

  • im a two handed 12 year old bowler and i have a average 176 throwing 15.2mph and 327rpms

  • @suckmydickflattit sorry, but 176 isnt very good....

  • @worldslayer its pretty good for a 12 year old!

  • @TheMusicjuice I got 212 aged 14, never ever came close to that again, 176 is a good average for anyone

  • bowling with 2hands increased my accuracy much more then when i bowled with 1

  • man 2 handed bowlers rev rates are so insane.. i know i could never do it

  • Some 1 handers can hook it just as much as a 2 hander. Robert Smith is a good example.

  • @Astromchaser robert smith is also one in a million with his insane strength

  • Most two-handed bowlers simply use the other hand as a way to get your hand further under the ball. When using three fingers, it's nigh impossible to get your hand completely under the ball, and two-finger bowlers have to cock their wrist on the backswing. So the second hand is just there to keep the ball from falling off your hand.

  • ilovetoysto

The good two handed bowlers do not twist their body sideways. Typical beginners of the two handed approach tend to want to twist because the other arm is coming across the body. Belmonte doesn't twist his body, it only looks like it. Yes, I started it because of bad coaching. I had to study the form in order to have it all right and start rolling in the high scores.

  • good shot

  • i think if you need two hands on the ball, its too heavy for you. switch to a lighter ball

  • yeah, well,

you need to realize that some people go for a more agressive back end. no matter what the weight of the ball its what kind of breaks you get and if youre reading the pattern right. me being a two handed bowler myself, trust me, you need endurance to do it.

  • I did try this years ago just for fun.If you watch a two hand bowler in person. You''ll see a lot of strange splits, for right handers, like the 2.4.10 or 2,4,7.10.The ball is jumping so hard on the back end of the lane thats the price you pay if for all those rev's.Why would anyone want to walk up the approach turn your body sideways taking your body and backswing way out of alighnment with your target .Not a good Idea. You can not shoot a spare this way.You would chop everything.

  • Its is OK the have a back swing with two hands. The rule is if both hands are touching the ball at the point of release its a No no in the USBC rule book and past ABC rule book.If only one hand is touching the ball at the point of release OK,And is Not breaking USBC rule.

  • are you guys serious? it takes just as much skill to learn how to two hand it than it does to one hand it... i hook with 1 hand but my teammate does with 2... he cant use 1 hand and i can barley curve with 2

  • I dont think the 2 handed style will hold up over the long run - Its like playing golf left hand down (cross-handed) why put in all the time required to be one of the best of the best and handicap yourself with this novel but untested over the long run style.

  • you say its untested but isn't it what he's doing right now? testing it? then if it fails, just revert...

  • I dont mind 2-handed. I accept it like most ,if not, all people do on the pba. I do one handed because when I bowl in my late 50's I will be throwing out my back with 2 hands lol... prob even with 1 hand. Maybe not as often.

  • my good friend bowls 2handed b/c he hurt his forearm and he says 2handed is alot less stress on it. this kid averages 266 and has thrown 31 perfect games! but he is a lazy collage kid who loves to party so he doesnt take it seriously! i tell him every day to join tournaments and try to get on the pba

  • no offense but i dont think u understand how good one has to be to be join the pba let alone be successful in the pba

  • ya, but you can at least win some small local tournaments.

  • Comment removed

  • What a debate,

"Bottom line is if you bowl 1-handed, you are MORE LIKELY to be successful", lol! btm line to be great, know how to bring ur spares & ur strikes on different lane conditions and ur gd 2 chlng any1

everyone with half a brain knows that if you wanna be successful in bowling you should bowl with 1 hand v.true, b/c Jason got the othr half, he snatched the sngls gold medal frm 86 1handd plyrs on hvy & dry lanes. U just still struggle to bring dwn pin 10 or 7, go & play notap man.

  • thats not right dude

  • thats just dirty

  • check out my bowling vids :D 2h bowling owns!!!!!!!!11

  • I just started bowling 2handed saturday, it's pretty fun. Gonna take some time getting used to it though. I'm left handed with a 155 average, hopefully in about half a year of 2handing i'll get it up there... Only problem is my lanes are like, the hardest in the city. And half the times the lanes aren't even oiled, so I can't bowl above a 150 on crap that overhooks.

  • i've been around bowling for 22 of my 26 years...for years my average hovered around a 160, last summer i started bowing 2 handed and carrying a 216 average...

  • new ball time... get a plastic ball lol

  • thats alot of fuckin hook!

  • Everybody wanna be Belmonte

  • A lot of guys in my league are pretty old school and two handed bowling is frowned upon. Personally, I could care less. If you have what it takes to roll with those guys, whether its two or one handed, you have my respect.

  • thats how i bowl haha

  • omg gdoubleu1

    waa a geek LOL

  • thats some sweet spin!

  • its not about hook or rev rates its about accuracy and entry angle to the pocket and having proper angle of your revolutions to give yourself a chance if you hit the pocket weak or heavy. anyone can hook a plastic ball wet sanded down with 220 grit and anyone can hook a storm virtual gravity at 4000, but you still have to be good enough to make the ball work properly in the pocket.

  • well put

it has to do with speed too though

if you got slow you could put the ball left( if you bowl righty)

and if you go fast you can put it right

  • True and Belmo deff, knows how to make stuff work for him.

  • its not about blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah in the pocket...what the fuck. why would you know this?

  • ciao, sei un talento del calcio? conosci il sito KICKO? ci sono gli osservatori che possono contattarti.

  • please clarify your statement...as far as I know he only supports the ball with his left hand during his back swing. The left hand is not touching the ball on his release. He is releasing the ball with his right hand only. He puts his index and ring finger into the ball and it is the only hand touching the ball on release, which real makes him a right handed bowler..not a "2 handed bowler"

  • i agree with you man its for support

  • hey DJ, I watch a ton of your videos, you do a great job and they're awesome. If you look at other videos of him from the front, you can see that when he lets go of the ball, his left hand DOES leave the ball. I wouldn't agree saying that it would still make him a "right handed bowler" as in saying that he's one handed, because its not. He still uses two hands for the whole delivery--the left hand is used to keep the from falling out of his right hand since he has no thumb to hold on otherwise.

  • dont like it? suck it, u r proly one of the rev challenged idiots whos close minded and never be opened to new things

  • I think he's right, those hight performance balls are killing the sport. People ignore how important is accuracy but focus on only hooks or revs. However, there's nothing wrong bowling with two hands, it's their style. I am just sick of those young people try to bowl with two hands and injury themselves. P.S. Jason Belmonte is the first pro bowler I like, he's fun to watch.

  • I thought I respond on two issues. First, if you put your fingers in the ball, I would think it be impossible to bowl right with two hands. That brings me to my second point. I know this for a fact, because I tore the skin on my thumb and bowled without my thumb. My release looks pretty much like Jason's.

Finally, you don't need a high performance ball to hook it. I think high performance balls offer an option for weaker players. That's all. I make my plastic ball hook mad.

  • going back to bowling with two handed bowlers. im not saying its ruining the sport, but i saw a kid at the lanes today, trying to bowl with two hands... it was pathetic as i saw the kid not hit the same mark once... as long as you can hit the same mark, as Belmonte can your alright

  • Lol, that's a bit harsh. He's probably only having a bit of fun. He doesn't expect to be criticised by people for his bowling action. Not everyone goes bowling because they want to be a professional.

Maybe he's not strong enough to hold the ball with one hand anyway.

  • @w6030 okay. The importance of accuracy? Since when have straight bowlers needed accuracy to hit the headpin?

High performance balls REQUIRE accuracy. Especially if you play on a sport pattern. 1-2 boards off of your target or "mark" will either cause the ball to come up light, or over hook through the nose. That means you have to put the ball within an inch of your projected target, or you pay for it with a split.

  • @w6030 It does require accuracy, maybe even more than straight bowling and it adds two more variables: rotation angle and rpm. Much harder to control, but hits harder into the pocket.

P.S.: Wes is also fun to watch

  • @w6030 um. u ever bowled with a rubber ball on a original bowling alley? i have and it sucks. i used my ball on a original bowling alley and i couldnt get it to hook at all. not once. still threw a 145 though :)

  • @w6030 The sales of high performance bowling balls is the majority of the revenue that bowling makes now a days. The fact that the companies release and sell so many is actually what is keeping the sport alive. Score inflation is really not that big of a deal, if you think about the competition. The more accurate bowlers still win PBA tournaments, they just win with higher scores. Also there are very difficult oil patterns like the US open pattern, that force bowlers to be perfectly accurate.

  • you are right!! it is not about hook or revs its about accuracy!!!

  • @solenzaraz no thats not right, accuracy is obviosity, speed and revs is what makes pins fall...

  • @w6030 i also say osku palermaa is another one that is fun to watch with his 2 handed style

  • Jason is going to make his first PBA TV finals on Sunday, March 29 at 2 pm ET on ESPN.

  • and i think he got his first title right?

  • Yep, throwing from 37 to 8 on the left lane and a plastic ball straight up the boards on the right.

  • wii sports doesn't let me do this :-p

  • hahaha lmfao....... true true

  • @gallente4TW it does, but you have to throw the ball really slow to do that

  • now thats a pro

  • im a 2 handed bowler from ohio, still worried i may get in trouble cuz i still throw right handed and i switch between the two. and a usbc sanctioned rule is you cant switch hands, so idk how it computes lol

  • I think you can switch styles, but not hands.

  • yea, cause osku palermaa throw his first ball with 2 hands and throws at spares with one hand

  • Comment removed

  • if anyone says that belmonte's 600rpms is at least 17% higher than the closest one-handed competitor, they haven't seen robert smith bowl. pretty impressive all the same, though.

  • Difference is Jason averages 600 rpm, while Robert averages 525, that's what they ment in the article.

  • not necessarily, belmonte can adjust his rev rate according to his needs, as can smith. so they can both comfortable throw in the 500-600 range.

  • O.O

  • Belmonte is good, so is Osku.....another guy to look out for is Brian Valenta.....bowled college with him for a couple of years, he's finally startin to get out there and make a name for himself in the PBA....just hope he can keep it going, he's sick when he needs to be lol

  • Don't forget about the two handed lefty of former team usa cassidy schaub (not sure how his last name is spelt)

  • I bowl like this but instead of just two fingers in the ball i also have my thumb and i get tired of ppl trying to change it as you can see we are just as good.... this guy is good id like to meet him

  • wow. that is the first time ive heard that. 2 handed bowler with all 3 fingers. dont ur thumb get stuck sometimes?

and thats alright tho, im a 2 handed bowler, but i only use my pinky and my ring finger. i had a middle finger injury, and then i switched to 2 hands cuz of a thumb injury. and ive improved. i just got my first 700 with a 759, in 2 weeks of bowling 2 handed

  • eh my thumb mite make the popping sound but my thumb is pitched a lil so i can roll out of the ball im averaging 180 now.

  • your pitiful thats a lame excuse if you where a good enough bowler you would be able to adjust

  • Top 8 for Belmo in the first tournament of the year. Which is also a major. Uh oh PBA, here comes Jason. He was also leading by 200 pins after qualifying.

  • Top 16. Sorry.

  • I think Belmo proves the 2 handed style is effective just based on his world champsionship performance so far.

Hes leading the tournament by 240 pins after 27 games. and hes plus 900 something

  • who the fuck is this jason belmnot or what ever

  • I use my balls with both my hands too :P. lol jks.

  • and sucked your left nut

  • wtf, you're a weirdo, i was kidding. You took it too far, just too far.

  • Nice spin on the ball

  • im plays with 2 hands too_:D

  • bikeous u should try a world class reactive.

won't have a lot of hook but you'll be able to get more speed on it.

I've experimented with both a terminator rebellion, world class particle, world class reactive, and finally a counter-strike particle.

    all from lane masters

  • Jason competed with Mika Koivuniemi, Sean Rash, Walter Rays Williams Jr. and Wes Malott today as a member of Carmen Salvino' team in the PBA All-Star Team Competition

  • I bowled like this today. I had a 156 average whereas one handed is a 180. I normally bowl standing on the middle dot but with two hands it was all the way on the left like here. If anyone is going to try this make sure that you're able to put speed on the ball, a LOT. Every strike went brooklyn but I was consistent all three games. All I need is a ball that goes long.

  • Don't forget a lot of side rotation. 189 current average, bowled 2 handed last week in a series for my league, 605. lol. It's pretty fun, and people look impressed.

  • the beauty of his two handers is all of us go about it differently but the ball hits and hooks just as hard whatever way we bowl. I love the power and sheer amazement i get when i strike. I have people come to watch me bowl when i was practicing. I even had del ballard watch me once.

  • i just relize thats how i bowl cuase my fingers cant get in the fukin hole

  • best part of bowling with only 2 fingers is no thumb cut

  • i bowl two-handed also

    i always have

i recently got a 264, my high game

  • not to sound proish, but 269 on the 2nd week, my high, and the same night 759. league bowling, and average is 180

  • Im gonna take a vid to nite and put it up here. i am 14 i shot a 278 today i had the front 9 and left a 10 pin picked it up and left another. and i would leave that house

  • Don't worry, you don't sound pro anything.

  • his final score 759?!?!

  • Yea, what's your point?

  • max is 300

  • 759 is the series he threw, three games, not one.

  • my mistake, sorry.

  • hahaha that was a while ago when i first started 2 hands. the league is ended a while ago now, and ive had 3 300 games, and 5 700 series my first year. ended with a 190 average on 3 leagues. im actually thinking about joining the pba tour a few times.

  • You're thinking about trying PBA stuff on a 190 average?

    LOL

  • I know I lol'd too.

Try joining PBA when you have 40 + 300,s & 40+ 800 series over 3 games. there are people who average 700 for 3 in house leagues lolol.

  • not in the house i bowl in. i mean, there are good bowlers there, but not that good. thats ppl who bowl like everyday pretty much.

  • and a 190 average is the lowest requirement u need to qualify. but i started out low tho. i went up 30 pins with 2 hands.

  • I guess bowling in the PBA would be ok, but you'd have to have quite a bit of money for the intense entry fee's against the highest of competitor bowlers. I guess thats why I found it a little funny entering on a 190 average, but like you said, ti IS the minimum requirement.

Our center is not the highest scoring either. I mean, there are a few of us who can regularly crack 700, but our highest average is 212. The difference is though, when our bowlers go away, we bowl exceptionally well.

  • why not? someone has to be last :-P

  • i understand hes good but why isnt he in the pba? also what counrty is this dude from? italy?

  • cuz he makes more money bowling amatuer stuff, like the high roller, and stuff overseas, chris barnes told me he thinks Belmonte made atleast 100k more then he did last year so thats why. He is from austrailia.

  • oh thanks. yeah thats what i thought. cause world bowling is a lot bigger than pba obviously.. how much did he make from bowling? and whats his average?

    thanks

  • he could probably average 250+ on a house shot, he made about 250k last year....

  • word? thats pretty good but his ass would make more in the pba dont you think? like walter ray i think has 4mill.....

  • yea in 30 years on the bowlers tour lol...

  • yeah true thats so dumb. 4 mill in 30 years of pba bowling. nba stars get like what 20 mill a year or that may be mlb. either way bowlers wont ever make as much as other sports

  • Which is stupid, you can sit on the bench your whole career and make a couple million a year... Bowling is so underrated...

  • This is exactly how I throw. I'm kind of amazed that this is becoming a big thing now, especially because I had to do it. I messed up my wrist a couple of months ago, forcing me to use 2 hands because I could no longer support the ball the way I used to. It's had great results though; I've had to learn and get used to this style of bowing over the course about 6 months, and within this time I've set my highest game yet (231). I'm not a religious bowler, so I am quite happy with that score.

  • umm idk where u guys live but in my are there are lots of middle aged men with averages in the 230's and 5 or six in the 240's and they don't even throw all that often, the top bowling in my youth league had a 225 average and hes only 18, so don't say they should be pro ok

  • i am the 26.000 viewer ;) btw nice shot

  • osku palermaa is so much betr

  • Well, Congratulations on the scholarship! Guess I'll see you on tv in about four years?

  • that is good you must put a shit load of revs on that

  • go check me out on my page throwing a lucky strike and comment it plz

  • i throw with one hand get as much action as a person with 2 hands i have a 190 averge in my bowling leauge

  • you guys all talk too much shit. two handed bowlers can be just as good (on house shot). Jason is an amazing bowler, but all those British guys bowl on MUCH easier oil patterns than the guys in the PBA. bowling on house shot means nothing!! they are all practically the same! If you haven't noticed, the British guys also bowl on 1 lane on television. the PBA has by far the best bowlers in the world. isn't funny how theres NO two handed bowlers in the PBA!

  • Oh yes there is I personally know two.

  • I personally know two PBA bowlers that use two hands, and they carry around a 225 avg.

  • they why haven't i EVER seen them make the telecast and why haven't i ever heard of them...?

  • The two I know are in the PBA South regional tours not the national tour. One is working his way up through the regional tours, still working on his mental game. Just like all the others on the National level did. The other is out just having fun where he is. I will agree with you about the British though.

  • i'm willing to be neither of them will never make the national tour

  • They might not, but I bet they will make more money then you will and petter bowlers then you are.

  • Do you watch the PBA Randy and Walter Ray were talking about the two handed bowlers.

  • no and i'm not going to. i just got accepted to Witchita State on full bowling scholarship. we'll see who makes more money....

  • Good on you mate! I like seeing people do well and prefer not to post negative comments about people's successes. If it works for you, then that's what matters. The world would be so much better if we celebrated one another's successes and mourned with them following failures, rather than the other way around.

  • bowling 2 handed is the only way some of us smaller guys (i am 5' 7" 160) can get the revolutions to make solid 1-3 shots guaranteed strikes...i started bowling 2 handed last summer and have seen my average go up 50 points as a result...

  • me too yesterday i tried it, as nothing was working, for a few games and raised my strike percentage from about 30% to about 60%. small too 5 5 and raised my average about 30 pins

  • Because there's only a couple 2 handers that actually go on the PBA... Osku Palermaa, who doesn't bowl on the PBA much made a show at the U.S. Open in 2004... Belmonte was World ten pin bowler of the year.. So don't say they are bad...

  • I don't think we'll ever see Osku on tour. I think we'll see Belmonte a lot more this year

  • on what, a house shot? a house shot translates in 20-50 pins higher than a PBA pattern

  • The two I know are in the PBA South regional tours not the national tour. One is working his way up through the regional tours, still working on his mental game. Just like all the others on the National level did. The other is out just having fun where he is. I will agree with you about the British though.

  • Lets be honest though. Osku and Jason could easily bowl on the pba patterns. Plus there use to be a no thumber on the PBA tour. Mike miller who had a few titles plus one of the televised 300 games.

  • wow, you must have like no life.

  • How?

  • no doubt he could bowl on the PBA Chris Barnes told me face to face that he would be one of the best bowlers on the pba tour. Belmonte that is.
