  • It looks like you did the same membrane cover as me...a piece of scotch tape :p

  • It is good to see you appreciating Chinese Culture. I play DiZi too.

  • From the end to the mouth piece is hollow bull horn on either side there is a blocking piece inside it towards the back it goes 1/2 inch or less behind the blow hole. this is for anyone else building a dizi.

  • WHAT IS THE SONG CALLED?

  • =D wah! that was beautiful

  • I'm trying to make a dizi, is it completely hollow inside of the bamboo?

  • whats the name of the song? jiao shenme mingzi?

  • where did buy this flute? how much?

  • Go to our website (link in the sidebar) and Search for "dizi".

  • what song is that?

  • do you have to have the ends of the flute capped

  • That is just the traditional style. Some of the lower end models are not capped.

  • I have a Dizi flute, but for some reason I can't place the dimo correctly. Im using garlic juice, and it seems to work at the beging, but after a minute of blowing it stops sounding good. Any advices? Thanks

  • garlic juice is a bit iffy - I suggest the "ass's glue" erjiao as being a better solution.

  • Yeah it sounds like a good idea, thanks. I'll have to order some in the internet though...

  • I always wanted to playe 1 of those when I was small, but now still do. >.>

  • mmm membrane

  • That was great! I think I'll finally order a dizi for myself tonight! :)

  • Man, that was AMAZING! I just received mine today, a few hours ago...I'm making sounds but having trouble keeping the sound and fingering...do you have any tips?

  • You must practice proper ambochure, practice breathing and practice your tounging. And you'll have to cover the second hole of the Dizi with Dimo(flute membrane)with Erjiao(glue) and it must be tight so that there will be no openings.

  • Okay..see I've already done the Dimo..I used Garlic Juice. It makes the right sound I believe....Its just I'm not really to sure on how to hold it, and how to breath. I mean I play an Irish Tin Whistle, and I sing, so I can hold out for a while, but this is Chinese...I'm not used to playing other types of instruments like this...lol.

  • Okay, umm, your ambochure should not change when you play. A slight change in position of your lips could destroy the sound. You must also practice breathing. Try blowing a note constantly for 4 beats, increase to 8 beats, then 12 beats, then 16 beats and then 21beats. Remember, blow constant air. Don't blow too fast nor to slow.

  • Okay Thank you...Will Do. If I have any other problems or questions I'll be sure to ask you lol.

  • ok after watching all those videos i shall once again try to learn it......because apparently i suck at making any legible sound.....I am pretty sure that is mostly me...but how can you tell if the dizi is a good one or not????

  • Well, without being able to play yours to check it out, here are a few tips:

Put a piece of tape over the membrane hole and just see how it plays as a regular bamboo flute. It should play at least 2 octaves plus a note and be in tune with itself in both registers.

Next, put a dimo membrane on the flute (an art in itself) and then adjust it to play with the correct buzzing tone, and then you are OK.

  • One of our simple but nice playing dizi.
