and the YT Most Viewed videos list in bullshit. On previous channels I've had videos with view numbers that should've seen them on list but they were not, but say a SexyPhil video, with less views, will always be on the YT most-viewed list, even if a non-partner video has more views.

wot about flase/hater DMCA's? They get through and impossible to appeal. Also YT Copyright is meaningless - I've watched Twilight and other new release movies on YT, TV shows etc. Most of YT is uploaded Copyright material. YT shuts channels for meaningless Copyright reasons yet allow hating/racist/full of swearing channels to stay up. Why do YT allow so many blatant Copyright infringing channels to stay up!? Like I had channel suspended for a little Simspons clip - there's millions on YT!

Hi, guys--
I was using StumbleUpon a while back and I found a site called SellABand, that has a lot of indy artists; I used music by a Dutch band called Nemeseaon one of my AMVs. Turns out that Nemesea has their own account on YT, and when they saw the AMV, they sent me a message *thanking* me for using their music. I did the same thing for Otep, and she hasn't DMCA'd me either (no comments yet though).
Nice change from all the negativity, hm? :)

Indeed. There has to be a reason why some are allowed to keep a song, and others not. I do not believe a large company like Google, would flip flop on there rules to this extent. however I agree to be on the safe side stick to royalty free music. No sense risking it. Thou there are times where royalty free music just dosnt fit the video sadly.

What seems to work is to not use more then one minute of a song in your video. I have one video with a UMG music segment, and it is still up. However the video is less then a minute. They probly dont want people uploading a full song. There is the diffrence.

I don't think the length of the video has anything to do with it, the 30 second limit rule is a myth, length has nothing to do with fair use.
Few Days ago I noticed someone upload a 10 minute video and for about 40 seconds a linkin park song was added, (They're signed under UMG) and the entire Video's Audio track was disabled for Copyright.

We have-freedom of expression ie:cussing but not me thankfully and theres morethey say its their private site yet open to us,if they open to us shouldn't they expect and respect how we make videos ect and NOT limit us like they do? ie: the 10 min limit,being able to make our videos viewable to the right age group ect

I hear what your saying, but... YT is after all Googles' house, and we're invited guests. So regardless of Googles motives, I really can't fault Google for monitoring and choosing to impose consequences on those of their guests who engage in any activity that Google doesn't approve of, going on in their house.
Just as I wouldn't fault you for discouraging any activities, be that swearing or praying, that you didn't approve of, going on in your house, by your invited guests.

Has anyone else noticed that the normal video quality is awful when you upload an HD video. HD looks great, but most people will watch it in normal as there isn't option to watch all videos in HD quality only high quality. When you upload an HD video you don't get a high quality version, so it will default to normal.
It's getting harder and harder to find new non-partner videos. Where are the partners of the future going to come from if the site is biased towards current partners?

Partners upload more videos, but i dont have any problems finding most content.

Compared to previous videos before widescreen, I'd say that the quality of normal is less.
Sorry I can't agree that partners upload more videos. The vast majority of videos are from non-partners and, certainly in the UK, partners in general don't post as regularly as some of the more significant non-partners (with the exception of the likes of Universal etc). Looking at the top 100 most subscribed (worldwide) 63 have less than 100 videos.

I agree with what your saying, but i have seen some HD video played on normal that turn out fine, just most people dont seem to be able to do it.
I think Partners upload more videos here, But i see your point on the UK system honours.

It just seems that the partners can do what they want when it comes to centre pics etc.
Copyright issue is simple, don't use copyrighted material. There are loads of copyrighted videos (eg TV programmes) in the top 100 lists, maybe YT should be more proactive and remove these before getting complaints.
I think the option to flag your own videos as 18+ would be great.

Yes they do give partners some more options but the center pic still has to be on topic, just not when you a big partner..

I'm personally sick of "protect the children" crap. Here's an idea. Don't want kids to see nasty shit on the net? Don't let them use it. Easy solution.
LiveVideo allows users to flag their video as 18+ at time of upload. Why don't YT?
YT is trying to turn into yet another precanned corporate tv network.

I disagree. They don't need to pander to the least common denominator. Let us set our own vids 18+. Sure, kids will just lie about their age. So penalize THEM and their parents for not caring enough about their kids to monitor what they do on the net. Don't penalize the rest of us.
And don't turn YouTube into yet another corporate whore network tv station. I don't watch TV for a reason.

Don't agree on a family friendly site - make kidsyoutube and let adults conduct themselves as they wish and make the informed decisions that adults are mentally able to make on their choices of entertainment. If I wanted family friendly I would turn on the TV.

I love watching real people say whatever they want including swearing. Someone like SXEPHIL, I just love to watch. Not having him rant and use the language he uses would suck.
YouTube should definitely allow swearing. Let people flag their own videos. Let users setup an option in their profile to allow viewing of videos that contain swearing. Change search and featured videos to not display videos with swearing to people who choose not to hear it (or to people who aren't logged in).

Hmmm... no - a video with tons of swearing shouldn't be in the top viewed list. If I were youtube, if someone flagged their own video (or it got flagged by someone else), I wouldn't display it anywhere if the person wasn't logged in or was logged in but had a recorded age of less than 18. Of course, kids could (and would) lie about their age. I don't know how they could enforce that.

Interesting vid guys and good to see two YTA's together!An observation,not a critism..YOUTube is a worldwide site yet their copyright laws are from the USA legal system! I know we all should be aware of use of copyrighted material,but laws may vary from country to country..confusing!

We all know of people who have have false DMCA's filed against them, by Viacom as well as other users.
TOSS - how appropriately it is named. I don't agree with the profanity censoring, whose place is it to decide what is & isn't art?
A girl in the middle of you two would have got you a few more views, maybe next time.
I agree that we should have the option to make our videos 18+, when we are uploading them. Pauly, create another channel for your personal videos or put them on private.

The first mistake is thinking Google would listen to us. They can't even watch a vid to check the legitimacy of a DMCA claim, how can we expect them to listen to the vids without a legal/ financial context?

For what it's worth... I recently had a video removed from "Live" status, for music copyright infringement. I was given 2 options. Do the Music Swap, or fill out the provided form contesting the infringement. I filled out the form, and I also attached a copy of what I had entered into the form, to the description box for that video.
The next day or two, that video had been restored to "Live" status again, and viewable by all.

There are penalties for false DMCA claims but you have to fight it. It is between the video owner and the person filing the copyright complaint.

I had uploaded a video that UMG placed advertising on a year ago... and just within the past few months, it's now blocked in some countries, and I don't even know which ones.
About the TOS/TOU, why is it considered a violation if a non-partner like myself tries to upload a video that is 11 minutes or longer? I can understand it being rejected, but calling it a violation?

Oh, I should have clarified that I didn't try to upload a 10+ minute video, but I've read many complaints on the help forums from users saying they have had it happen to them. Under the video uploads, it mentions the video is rejected for being too long, but trying to access the video watch page says it's because of a TOU violation. It's possible that it's not actually a violation, and that YouTube doesn't have a proper error message for that situation.
