The fat's fan sound almost reminded me of my trucks fan when revved. Sounds like it's moving a lot more air.  And the slims almost like a little air horn siren. LOL at the slim ejecting shotgun reload!

Why is my PS3 slim NOT as loud as yours and other slims when I eject a disc? It was that loud for like 2 weeks after purchase, but then I woke up one morning and put a disc in and it was no longer that loud. But it still works great. But still, someone here must know something about this.

My 120gb slim always likes to spin the disc very fast , then stop, then spin, then stop over and over. This tends to happen when Ive just entered a new area in a game or the beginning of a level but then it stops making any noise and carries on as normal until I reach the next area that sets it off. Its strange because its not like it only does it for afew seconds, it does it for afew minutes. My old 40gb never did this.

the ps3 slim has a bigger hdd and is quieter and infact has a big fan inside it hence reducing the chance of overheating and has features that warns u if its close to doing so. best to get slim since its bigger hdd and ergonomic design is ready for future gaming :D

Hard to tell, kinda depends on what you'te looking for. I'ts practicly the same thing, not many big differences. Then again if you're planning on using wifi you should get the slim, it has better connection to wifi than the "fat" one. My fat broke so now Iäm getting a slim one :)

From my experienced, the 40GB and the 80GB (non BC model) were the quietest.

I've owned a 60GB, 80GB (BC model), 40GB, 80GB (non BC), and the Slim.

The first models produced a lot of heat and were noisier than the newer models that had no BC. Smaller chipsets and some other small changes brought the newer models down with the noise and heat exposure. The Slim is a whole bit smaller as the unit itself, with not a whole lot changed internally, thus making it noisier and gives off more heat.
